Chapter 407: The Auction House
Chapter 407: The Auction House
Robin looked on in mild surprise as Feng Ye brought two individuals down from the World Government's ship.
While Donquixote Doflamingo was still young and spent most of his time in the underground world, with the Shichibukai system yet to emerge, his bounty and fame in the surface world were not particularly notable, so Robin couldn't recognize him.
However, Stussy's attire clearly marked her as a member of CP0.
"Found ourselves two guides." Feng Ye smiled, casually indicating Doflamingo beside him. "This here is Little Tang, and over there is Stussy. They're both quite familiar with this country."
Robin glanced at Doflamingo and promptly ignored him. Despite his flamboyant appearance and getup, which clearly marked him as untrustworthy, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about him.
The same could not be said for Stussy, however. With her slender figure, refined features, and mature charm, she exuded a dangerous allure. Her eyes, like sapphires, held a subtle gleam.
This woman was dangerous.
While Feng Ye seemed to have a preference for younger individuals, there was an innate attraction between men and women, and Stussy, with her graceful demeanor, was a threat.
After a brief introduction of Doflamingo and Stussy, Feng Ye turned to Robin. "Robin, my crewmate. You should already know each other."
"Mhm..." Stussy nodded.
As a member of CP0, she was naturally familiar with Robin, the sole survivor of Ohara and a wanted figure branded as a devil's child by the World Government.
In fact, the conflict between Feng Ye and the World Government could be traced back to his decision to take Robin under his wing, setting off a series of clashes.
If it were anyone else, one might easily conclude that Robin was an important person to Feng Ye. However, such an assumption couldn't be made so readily in this case.
The reason was simple. For an ordinary person, going up against the World Government for the sake of another would undoubtedly require a resolute will and conviction. But for an existence like Feng Ye, the World Government might not have even registered as a concern—they were like petty thugs one might deal with on the side of the road.
If his crew was being harassed by such thugs, he would simply swat them away without a second thought.
While this analogy might seem odd when applied to the World Government, which had ruled the world for eight hundred years and held true power, Stussy's understanding of the situation suggested that this might well be the reality! Though she hadn't been in Mary Geoise at the time, as a member of CP0, she was keenly aware of Feng Ye's fearsome nature. To call him the most terrifying person in the world would not be an exaggeration!
Indeed...
He's not human...
Stussy murmured to herself.
His power was terrifyingly overwhelming, and his appearance was arguably the most handsome she had ever seen in a man. His demeanor and bearing exuded elegance, and the combination of these traits was simply unreasonable. Such a person should not exist in this world.
"The most famous attraction in the Kingdom of Prodence is their Colosseum, known as the largest in the world," Doflamingo began, as the group of four made their way into the island. "From morning till night, there are constant performances—not just battles between men but also clashes between humans and fierce beasts..."
"Aside from the Colosseum," Doflamingo continued, noting the lack of interest from Feng Ye and Robin, "the country also boasts many ancient ruins dating back to antiquity. The scenery is quite spectacular and worth appreciating for foreigners."
"Ancient ruins from antiquity?" Robin's eyes lit up. "That's definitely worth seeing."
She looked up at Feng Ye.
Feng Ye smiled slightly and turned to Doflamingo. "Let's grab something to eat first, then we'll head over. Little Tang, you can lead the way from there."
Even now, he wasn't quite used to this name, but then again, it was better than being called Little Tang or Xiao Ming. Doflamingo consoled himself with that thought.
The group made their way further into the Kingdom of Prodence.
While Doflamingo and Stussy managed to blend in, Stussy's white cloak gave her away as a member of CP0. However, Feng Ye's presence still drew the most attention, and once he was recognized, fearful gazes followed them.
Feng Ye decided to use a technique he had been employing frequently—he cast an ongoing illusion on himself to lower his presence. After all, he preferred peace and quiet.
...
Each country in the Grand Line was unique, with distinct customs, landscapes, and cuisine. Some of the local foods were particularly to Feng Ye's taste.
The snacks in Prodence were delightful, with a unique flavor.
After sampling the local fare, the group soon arrived at a northeastern area of the Kingdom of Prodence, where the architecture noticeably took on a much older style.
"This used to be the poorest part of the country," Stussy remarked as her eyes swept over the surroundings. "The poor couldn't afford to rebuild, so they lived in these old, dilapidated buildings."
Doflamingo picked up the thread, a slightly sinister smile on his face. "But over time, these old buildings became rarer and started to gain value. Now, they're sought after by nobles and the wealthy."
"And that's why these ruins have been preserved," Stussy continued. "For those nobles and the rich, they're a symbol of status."
Robin, who had been examining a particularly ancient-looking building, turned to Doflamingo. "So, we have these noblemen and wealthy folks to thank for preserving these precious pieces of history."
Doflamingo shot a slightly mocking glance at their surroundings. "I suppose so, but to them, it's just a plaything, a novelty. That's all the value history holds for them."
"No," Robin disagreed, looking directly at Doflamingo. "The value of history cannot be measured by simple worth."
Doflamingo gave a derisive laugh and was about to retort when he noticed Feng Ye's gaze on him.
The kindness in Feng Ye's eyes gave him pause, and he turned to Robin. "...You're right. History does hold value."
"Looks like quite a gathering up ahead," Feng Ye remarked, his gaze shifting to the front. There, a large, ancient-looking building stood, resembling an open-air Colosseum, but its style was dilapidated and old.
Stussy followed Feng Ye's gaze. "That used to be a Colosseum, but it was abandoned a long time ago. Now, it's used as an auction house. You can find all sorts of treasures from the sea there, including famous blades and, occasionally, Devil Fruits."
"Oh? Then let's take a look," Feng Ye suggested.
Having arrived in this world, Feng Ye had encountered all sorts of Devil Fruit ability users, but he had yet to see a Devil Fruit himself.
Devil Fruits were both common and uncommon in the Grand Line. While they could be found frequently, one also needed a stroke of luck to come across them.
There were probably some Devil Fruits in Mary Geoise, but his God-like power had destroyed most of them. At the time, he hadn't bothered to sift through the ruins for fragments; it would have been undignified to scavenge through the wreckage he had caused.
