Chapter 407: Ron: I Don't Believe It! Professor Dumbledore Can't Be That Biased!
Chapter 407: Ron: I Don't Believe It! Professor Dumbledore Can't Be That Biased!
Ivan's words left Harry silent. He touched the shiny Firebolt in the package, feeling its heavy weight.
He never expected that Professor Dumbledore, who was far away, would be so concerned and caring about him!
Harry was deeply moved, with tears welling up in his eyes. He made a silent vow in his heart not to let Professor Dumbledore down.
He had to overcome his fear of Dementors and win the Quidditch Cup this year!
Ron looked at Harry enviously. With the return of the Invisibility Cloak, this was the second time Professor Dumbledore had anonymously sent Harry something.
But looking at the broomstick in front of Ivan, Ron asked curiously, "Why did Professor Dumbledore send you a Firebolt too?"
Before Ivan could respond, Harry speculated, "This must be Professor Dumbledore's reward for Ivan! After all, he saved so many people on the Quidditch pitch. Also, the professor probably doesn't want Ivan's Quidditch talent to go to waste."
Harry turned to look at Ivan, feeling that Ivan's flying talent was much stronger than his own.
When he heard that Ivan had quit the Quidditch team, Harry was very regretful. He believed that Professor Dumbledore's gift of the Firebolt to Ivan must have a deeper meaning!
"Um, right! That's exactly what Harry said!"
Under the gaze of Harry and Ron, Ivan nodded with a strange expression. He had just made up those words on the spot, but Harry not only continued the lie but also made it sound somewhat reasonable.
This made Ivan want to complain: You can make up stories better than me?
Then, as if remembering something, Ivan added, "By the way, Professor Dumbledore doesn't want anyone else to know about this. Otherwise, other teams would say he's biased!"
Harry and Ron nodded in agreement. They understood the reasoning and promised to keep it a secret!
Seeing that they agreed readily, Ivan said no more and instead focused on checking the condition of Scabbers.
The grayish-black rat, no longer tense, lazily returned to Ron's pocket.
From Harry and the others' conversation, it only heard that "Dumbledore bought two expensive broomsticks, one for the troubled Harry and one for the outstanding Ivan", which didn't seem worth worrying about.
However, Ron was still hopeful. Looking at the two Firebolts on the table, he said enviously, "Harry, Ivan! Do you think Professor Dumbledore might have bought a Firebolt for each of us?"
Harry was momentarily speechless, unsure how to respond without crushing Ron's confidence.
Ivan rolled his eyes, thinking, "You wish!"
Ron had no significant achievements and wasn't Sirius Black's godson. At best, he was just Harry's friend. Getting a Firebolt was a pipe dream, and even if Sirius had the money, he wouldn't be that extravagant.
Yet, Ron sat on a small stool by the window, gazing at the endless blue sky, hoping for a third owl to fly in with a large package for him.
If his two best friends could get a Firebolt, there was no reason he couldn't. Professor Dumbledore couldn't be that biased!
Ivan observed Ron’s actions and shook his head inwardly, but he didn’t offer any advice. He calmly put away the Firebolt that Sirius Black had sent, which was lying on the table.
If he could resolve the Peter Pettigrew issue smoothly and had some spare time, Ivan could consider playing Quidditch again.
After all, a Quidditch trophy at the end of the semester would add a significant number of academic points.
While Ivan was lost in thought, Harry suddenly approached him. After hesitating for a moment, he asked, "Ivan, can you teach me how to defend against Dementors?"
"What? Haven’t you been learning from Professor Lupin these past few days?" Ivan was a bit surprised; he remembered reminding Harry about this before.
"I have, but Professor Lupin hasn’t been feeling well lately. He said he’ll be free after some time. Moreover, Professor Lupin mentioned that you know the Patronus Charm better than he does, so I should learn directly from you", Harry said, sounding quite helpless.
"Is that so?" Ivan raised an eyebrow, quickly realizing that Lupin’s poor health was likely due to the approaching Full Moon Night. He was too anxious and worried to give Harry private lessons.
"Alright, since you trust my teaching skills, I’ll teach you!" Ivan thought for a moment and finally agreed.
He thought it was a good opportunity to explain the Peter Pettigrew situation to Harry, to avoid any misunderstandings when Harry meets Sirius Black.
Seeing Ivan agree, Harry was very pleased. Dementors had become his personal demon this school year, and he really didn’t want to faint helplessly every time he encountered one.
"Don’t get too excited yet. I don’t have Professor Lupin’s extensive teaching experience, so my methods might be a bit rough. You need to be mentally prepared!" Ivan said seriously.
Rough?
Although Harry was a bit worried, he nodded solemnly, indicating that he would persevere no matter how difficult it was.
"So, when do we start?" Harry said eagerly, already looking forward to learning how to deal with Dementors.
"I need to prepare some props, so let’s set it for tomorrow evening. As for tonight, you can start familiarizing yourself with the incantation!" Ivan said, then demonstrated the spell for Harry.
"Patronus Charm!" Ivan chanted the spell, moving his wand in a peculiar rhythm.
A faint white light appeared, and an endless white mist surged from the tip of his wand. A sense of calm and peace gradually filled his heart.
"Patronus Charm!" Harry tried hard to memorize the incantation, the movements, and the strange feeling, then mimicked the wand movements and chanted the spell. Unfortunately, nothing happened.
Harry didn’t get discouraged. Such an advanced spell clearly wouldn’t be mastered in a short time, and he quickly resumed practicing on his own.
After demonstrating for a while, Ivan put his wand away and thought about how to conduct the lesson tomorrow.
Hogwarts only had two Boggarts, and both were now dead. Ivan doubted he could find a third one soon.
However, the lack of a Boggart didn’t matter much. There were plenty of Dementors around the school, and catching one wouldn’t be difficult.
Ivan was planning to do just that, which was why he warned Harry that the lessons might be rough.
