Chapter 405: Sea Fishing
Chapter 405: Sea Fishing
Lindsey had two options.
He could fish on the deck or extend his fishing rod through the porthole from the cabin, fishing indoors.
Lindsey chose the latter, as it was less attention-grabbing.
However, within a few minutes, problems arose.
Fishing from the window restricted his movements and obstructed his field of vision, making it more challenging to reel in the catch.
After struggling to lift the rod a couple of times, Lindsey gave in and conceded to reality.
"Whoever came up with the idea of indoor fishing must have been out of their mind. It's just not practical."
"Let's try outside instead!"
Lindsey gathered his belongings and stepped out of the cabin.
He intended to find a secluded spot on the deck and start his fishing endeavor.
But before he could complete a full circle on the deck, Lindsey spotted a one-armed figure sitting by the ship's railing.
It was his roommate, Alarson.
The one-armed painter had set up his easel on the deck, deep in thought, but he hadn't painted a stroke.
Alarson noticed Lindsey's gaze and turned towards him:
"Lindsey, you're up here too?"
Lindsey waved the fishing rod in his hand:
"I was getting bored in the cabin, so I decided to try fishing to pass the time."
After exchanging greetings, Lindsey continued towards the stern.
The wooden planks on the side of the ship narrowed as he moved.
The sterncastle, usually the captain's quarters, had a small platform extending from its side, which was rarely used due to the risk.
"This spot is perfect!"
Lindsey's face lit up with joy.
He jumped over the railing and sat sideways on the platform, his back against the ship's body, completely concealed.
"There's no better place for fishing than this!"
Lindsey organized his inventory and changed into his fisherman's outfit. He cast his rod, beginning his first sea fishing experience.
The fishing line sliced through the water, creating a white trail.
Lindsey's equipment was far superior now, and fishing was a simple task for him.
Before long, he felt a weight on his line, and the rod bent downwards!
"I've got a bite!"
Lindsey's expression brightened.
His Blooming Fishing Rod was a high-quality item, rarely damaged under normal circumstances.
Combined with his immense strength, Lindsey bypassed the need for fishing techniques. He exerted force, yanking whatever was beneath the surface.
A clump of dark green substance hung from the hook, which Lindsey held in his hand.
"Dried seaweed?"
"Huh?"
"I'm all geared up, and this is what I catch?"
Plop! Lindsey forcefully threw the seaweed into the sea, leaning back, and cast his line again.
Fortunately, his second attempt did not disappoint.
He reeled in his catch, a plump fish with a blue-white surface, which Lindsey promptly knocked out with a swift blow.
"Orland Ocean Fish—can be made into food, granting cold resistance to the consumer."
Lindsey was satisfied and continued casting his hook.
Although he occasionally caught strange and useless items, he explored the new waters and made discoveries.
"Glowing Blue Jellyfish—can be made into food, causing the consumer's body to emit light, illuminating their surroundings."
"Multicolored Lobster—slightly toxic but incredibly sweet and delicious."
"Glowing Red Jellyfish, similar to the previous one."
"Glowing Green Jellyfish, the same."
"Why are there so many jellyfish? Wait... Collect 5 different colored jellyfish to craft an Underwater Lantern."
Lindsey scrolled through the synthesis list.
The Underwater Lantern was a type of Long-Lasting Lantern, which could be used to create Multifunctional Survival Gear.
"Let's keep going!"
Bang—
Lindsey reeled in his rod.
But this time, a completely different sound echoed across the sea, as if he had caught not a living fish but some heavy, lifeless object.
"I've got something!" Lindsey exclaimed, his mouth curling up in a childlike grin. Without even looking, he knew what he had reeled in.
Sure enough, he pulled up a wooden box from the sea. Unlike his previous catches, this box had a beautiful wave pattern on its surface and was a faint shade of blue.
"Is this an Ocean Chest?" Lindsey wondered aloud as he immediately opened the box.
Inside, he found a cup, two paintbrushes, and a blue stone.
"An ancient cup from a sunken ship, a jade paintbrush, and an Ocean Element Crystal... an Element Crystal!" Lindsey's body trembled with excitement.
He took off the Flowing Water Rune from his body and immediately began the synthesis process.
[Emblem/Material: Ocean Current Emblem]
[When equipped, gain Slowdown/Dull Strike/Charm Resistance. Activate the active effect to greatly enhance underwater mobility, granting exceptional maneuverability and the ability to breathe underwater for an hour. Can also be used as a special item.]
[A high-level water element, this is a valuable special item.]
"..."
"Doesn't this overlap with the Catfish Headgear?" Lindsey flipped through the equipment descriptions.
While the two items had similar functions, their differences were evident.
The advantage of the Catfish Headgear was that it allowed the wearer to move freely underwater without any time limit.
The Ocean Current Emblem provided passive resistance boosts.
When activated, it further enhanced underwater mobility, making it even more exceptional."
Both items had their own ideal situations for use.
"..."
"And all this in just half a morning?" Lindsey marveled.
Fishing for an Ocean Chest in the vast sea was indeed challenging, but the rewards were substantial.
Lindsey had been sitting at the stern of the ship all morning, unable to move an inch, from sunrise to sunset, he had been fishing all day!
In addition to collecting the five-colored jellyfish and synthesizing an Underwater Lantern, he had obtained two unique pieces of equipment.
[Marlin Spear] [Swordfish Blade]
These two weapons were essentially immobile marlin and swordfish.
While they had decent attributes, they couldn't compare to treasures like the Red Horned Mistletoe, which could easily break through the sixth-phase skill defense.
Unfortunately, these two weapons were part of a set, and there were only two pieces in total.
When equipped together, they activated a set effect.
[Fish Knight: Increases weapon attack speed and grants an advantage against fish-type enemies.]
Lindsey imagined himself defeating enemies while holding two fish.
If he also wore the Catfish Headgear...
"This is... hehehe..."
Lindsey let out an indescribable, weird laugh as he organized his belongings while keeping an eye on his fishing rod.
At that moment, the sun's rays shone from afar, casting a warm glow.
Lindsey's expression softened.
Time had flown by, and he had spent an entire day engrossed in fishing!
"Well, one last cast, and that's it for today..."
Splash!!!
Before he could finish his sentence, the fishing rod seemed to agree with his thoughts, suddenly dipping into the water.
Lindsey pulled with all his might, and the object beneath the surface was immediately yanked up.
"I'm in luck," he thought as he pulled up another Ocean Chest.
But when Lindsey opened it, he found not an Ocean Crystal or an ancient artifact, but a solitary blue gem lying inside.
