Chapter 405: All Parties in Motion
Chapter 405: All Parties in Motion
Under the flight of the news seagull, newspapers scattered like snowflakes across the world.
New World, a certain island.
"Chief! Chief!"
A pirate clutching a newspaper stumbled in, panting as he waved the paper wildly. "This newspaper—this newspaper—"
"Calm down. Take your time and explain", said the figure seated at the center of a small gathering.
A sunglasses-wearing chubby man bit into a hunk of meat, chewing lazily before swallowing. A man with dreadlocks meticulously maintained his musket, while a hook-nosed man clutched a cigarette holder between his lips, standing beside a red-haired figure.
Shanks poured a glass of rum with one hand and handed it to the breathless pirate. "Don’t rush. Drink first."
The voice was soft but carried an anchoring weight, steadying the frantic man. He nodded, downed the rum in one gulp, then thrust the newspaper forward. "Chief! Lucius is dead! Killed by a Navy officer!"
"Lucius?" The hook-nosed man blinked, his cigarette holder twitching. "You mean Solitary Crimson? Dead? Didn’t they lock that 'old-timer' in Impel Down years ago? Was he executed?"
"That old uncle of a man..."
The red-haired man—Shanks—frowned, then chuckled as he accepted the paper. "What’s the Navy playing at now? They’ve already shaken the world—do they need to execute an old-timer to flex their muscles?"
As he spoke, his eyes landed on the newspaper’s headline. His pupils constricted instantly. Instinctively, his hand flew to his chest.
Beside him, the hook-nosed man—Beckman—leaned over and glimpsed the image. "It’s him."
"Navy Hero Slays Solitary Crimson!" blared the banner.
The photo showed Kuro mid-sheathing his blade, Lucius collapsing at his feet.
Shanks traced the scar across his bare chest—a jagged, sprawling wound left by a blade long ago. "This chest still aches when I think about it. So Lucius Kro, that Navy dog, has finally bared his fangs, huh?" He shook his head, passing the paper to Beckman.
Beckman skimmed it. "This is real. Likely after Blackbeard’s rampage at Impel Down. Red Earl escaped prison, but this man caught him. He’s got the strength to take Lucius down."
Shanks tilted his head toward the sky. "I wonder how wild the world will get now..."
——
New World, another island.
Boom! Boom!
The island trembled under invisible shockwaves, buildings cracking like eggshells.
"Admiral’s at it again."
In a tavern, pirates watched wine spill from wooden cups, their faces a mix of awe and dread.
"Think he’s in a good mood today?"
"Nah. Heard it started after he saw a newspaper."
Inside the island’s tallest tower, Marshall D. Teach—Blackbeard—glared at the paper on his desk. Suddenly, he punched empty air.
Boom! Boom!
The shockwaves roared anew.
"Evil laugh, Captain!" Cesar Clown flexed comically beside him. "That man took down Lucius! Didn’t you invite him once?"
"Call me Admiral, you idiot!" Shiryu—now wearing an Impel Down uniform with a skull insignia—wiped his blade, then glanced at the photo. "Lucius... Pity. Never got to cut him down in prison."
Blackbeard’s thick beard bristled as he laughed, his teeth no longer missing gaps. "He gave me plenty of 'care packages' back then. That web of blade cuts still burns, but now... I’ve got his power!" His eyes locked on Kuro’s face. "Blackbeard’s Laugh! So you’re moving too, huh? Let’s see who reaches the top first!"
——
New World, the Land of Wano.
"Mother! Mother! Big news! Lucius was killed by a Navy officer!"
In a shadowy palace, a Long-Leg Tribe man trembled, holding out the paper. A colossal face emerged from the darkness, dwarfing him.
"Laffy Tiffy?" The voice drawled, savoring the name.
A giggle bubbled up. "That old pest finally rotted away, huh?"
——
New World, Oni’s Island.
"Roooaaar!!!"
The deafening roar sent pirates fleeing in terror. The strongest creature in the world—Kaido, the Beast King, roared again.
"That Little Brat!!!"
In a mountain cave, Kaido’s fists clenched, blue veins bulging. His chest bore two fresh scars—a vertical slash from chest to abdomen, and a shorter diagonal one, both reddening with his rage.
A dagger pinned the newspaper to the wall—Kuro’s photo glaring down.
"Pathetic! This is the best you can do?!" He kicked a wine gourd, sending it flying into a pirate’s face. The impact embedded the gourd in his skull, sending him soaring.
"IS There NO One Who Can Kill ME?!"
The scream shook Oni’s Island anew.
——
Marineford, Admiral’s Office.
Lucius Kro stared at the newspaper, his lips curling. "Scary times..."
He turned to the reporting officer. "Where’s Kuro now?"
"Commodore Kuro has returned to West Blue", the officer replied.
