Chapter 404: Embracing a New Era
Chapter 404: Embracing a New Era
Having acquired the power to control dragons, Naoki began to use this ability to nurture the Dragon-type Pokemon on the ranch.
The first Dragon-type Pokemon to undergo Naoki's special training were the four Hakuryu that had not yet evolved.
The power to control dragons was a unique ability, similar to the concept of transmitting one's cultivation in a Xianxia novel.
By expending his own energy, Naoki could impart his strength to the Dragon-type Pokemon, aiding their growth and development.
With the boost from this dragon-controlling power, coupled with the super-high-speed training effects of the Padaria seafood paella, the four Hakuryu finally evolved into their mighty Haxorus forms just before the third-to-last day of autumn.
With these new evolutions, the Haxorus team on the ranch grew even stronger! Including Naoki's Haxorus, the eight hired Haxorus, and the trio of older brother Haxorus, there were now twelve Haxorus on the ranch.
Or, to be precise, thirteen, as there was still one unhatched Haxorus egg.
Looking at the large group of Haxorus on his ranch, Naoki felt like he could rename it the Dragon Ranch.
If he rounded up, he could even be considered a Dragon King of sorts, right? He could easily field two pure dragon teams.
Team One: Goodra, Axew, Haxorus 2, Haxorus 3, Haxorus 4, and Haxorus 5
Team Two: Haxorus, Haxorus 6, Haxorus 7, Haxorus 8, Haxorus 9, and Haxorus 10
However, with this increase in Haxorus came a new challenge: the Pokemon's growing appetite.
Just feeding the twelve Haxorus required a substantial amount of Pokeblocks and Energy Roots every day.
Energy Roots were easy to manage, thanks to Naoki's Berry Blender. He could simply set the presets and let the machine automatically create the Energy Roots according to the recipe, producing a large batch in just an hour.
But Pokeblocks were a more complex matter.
Whether it was boiling Berries or pouring the mixture into molds, Naoki had to do everything himself.
It was manageable when there were just a few Haxorus, but now that their numbers had increased, he couldn't keep up with the demand on his own.
Just as Naoki was worrying about this dilemma, his sister, Ai Guanshi, stepped forward.
"Ai Yi~" (Perhaps I can lend a hand, Naoki~)
Naoki ate two pieces of the translated sunflower seeds and crackers, then asked in surprise, "Do you know how to make Pokeblocks?"
Ai Guanshi shook her head. "Ai Yi!" (I didn't at first, but after watching you make Pokeblocks every day, I've gradually memorized the steps!)
If Ai Guanshi could help, it would certainly lighten his load. The work efficiency of a psychic Pokemon far surpassed that of a human.
"Can you show me how you do it?" Naoki asked.
"Ai Yi!"
Ai Guanshi happily nodded, delighted to be of assistance.
The two of them, along with their Pokemon, headed to Frost Cream's Creamery.
Ai Guanshi's eyes lit up with a blue glow, and the next second, something magical happened.
Pots, pans, bowls, and a stand mixer floated up as if by their own volition. The refrigerator door opened, and the Berries and eggs inside floated out.
With a gentle wave of Ai Guanshi's arms, the kitchen utensils and ingredients went to their designated places.
The stove lit automatically, and the Berries peeled themselves, while the eggs cracked neatly in half, their whites and yolks plopping into a waiting bowl.
Naoki watched this spectacle, incredulous.
The scene before him brought to mind two words—magic! Ai Guanshi worked with practiced ease. Soon, the Berries were cooked, mixed with the whisked eggs and flour, and then the batter flew into the molds, guided by telekinetic powers, before being placed in the oven.
After about thirty minutes, a ding signaled that the oven had finished its task.
Ai Guanshi opened the oven door and took out a large tray of freshly baked Pokeblocks, filling the air with a sweet aroma.
Naoki picked one up and took a bite.
"Ai Yi?" (How is it?)
Ai Guanshi asked anxiously, her eyes shining with anticipation. It was her first time doing something like this, and she wanted to do it well.
"It's delicious!" Naoki nodded enthusiastically. "In fact, it's even better than the Pokeblocks I make!"
"Ai Yi!" (Wonderful!)
Ai Guanshi was overjoyed.
Naoki was also pleased. With Ai Guanshi's help, he wouldn't have to worry about being unable to afford the Haxorus' wages.
There was another way to address this issue, of course. He could give the Haxorus money and let them buy their own food in town.
But that wasn't very practical at the moment.
The Haxorus didn't understand the concept of money, and the shopkeepers couldn't understand their Pokemon language.
A Rotom Phone would be incredibly useful in such situations.
The Rotom living inside the phone could help the Haxorus with their purchases and handle the payments.
Naoki wondered how the development was progressing on that front with Nimo's father.
The weather was beautiful that day. After lunch, Naoki took the Eevees out to the ranch's grassy fields to soak up the sun.
He spread a picnic blanket on the grass and laid out a variety of snacks for the Eevees to enjoy whenever they felt hungry.
Now that the Haxorus had evolved, it was time to help his Haxorus grow stronger.
When Papu the Drilbur ate the Lightning Mantou and Axew ate the Storm Mantou, the Haxorus looked on with envy.
Naoki had always felt guilty towards his Haxorus, as he hadn't had the opportunity to help them before.
Now that he possessed the power to control dragons, he was determined to aid their growth.
Although the exact principle behind the power was unclear, it was certain that it had a significant effect on Dragon-type Pokemon.
If this continued, the Dragon-type Pokemon nurtured by the power would one day be able to break through to the Champion League level.
In addition to accelerating the growth of Dragon-type Pokemon, the power to control dragons also allowed him to communicate with them telepathically.
In the anime, Alice had once used this power to communicate with Dragon-type Pokemon from a distance.
Therefore, when a hint of guilt crossed Naoki's mind, the Haxorus immediately sensed it.
"Gao..."
The Haxorus suddenly felt like crying.
So, Naoki had never neglected it?
Naoki sensed the Haxorus' emotions and patted its head gently, encouraging it, "Believe in yourself. One day, you will surpass Goodra and become even stronger!"
The Haxorus' eyes lit up with determination, and it enthusiastically licked Naoki's hand with its wet, large tongue.
Naoki: "..."
Not far away, Goodra, who was enjoying the afternoon sun on the grass, suddenly felt like someone was bad-mouthing it.
It sneezed and opened its eyes, looking around in confusion.
"Agassi?"
Then, Goodra noticed a sleek, black stretch limousine driving into the ranch.
Naoki also spotted the car.
The little Eevees by his side stopped playing and turned their curious gazes towards the vehicle.
Who could it be?
The answer soon became apparent.
The car door opened, and little Nimo jumped out excitedly.
From a distance, Naoki could hear her enthusiastic voice, "Mr. Naoki! I'm here for another trial at the ranch!"
Then, the front door of the car opened, and Nimo's father, Nick, and a well-dressed old butler stepped out.
"Long time no see, Naoki!" Nick approached with a smile, holding something in his hand.
"Mr. Nick, what brings you here?" Naoki was surprised. It made sense for Nimo to visit, given her love for Pokemon battles, but he was curious about Nick's sudden appearance.
"I have something important to discuss with you," Nick replied.
"Wow!" Nimo's eyes widened as she noticed the additional Pokemon on the ranch. "So many Eevees! And a Golurk and Trevenant too! What's that shiny, golden Pokemon?"
"A Haxorus! Mr. Naoki, you've caught another one!" Nimo exclaimed, her attention shifting from the Eevees to the impressive Dragon-type Pokemon.
Naoki smiled faintly, understanding Nimo's excitement.
In this world, no child could resist the allure of so many rare Pokemon.
He called out to Papu the Drilbur and instructed it, "Papu, why don't you take Nimo on a tour of the ranch?"
Papu turned to look at Nimo, remembering the young human.
"Pap!" Papu patted its chest and then led Nimo on an adventure to explore other parts of the ranch.
"This is amazing!" Nimo's excitement knew no bounds.
Seeing his daughter's enthusiastic reaction, Nick couldn't help but feel a bit exasperated. "Nimo has no manners at all."
Naoki shook his head with a smile. "She was very polite the first time she came to the ranch. I guess she's just becoming more comfortable with me."
"Hahaha!" Nick laughed heartily. "It seems like Nimo has taken a real liking to you!"
Naoki smiled and then turned to the matter at hand. "What brings you here today, Mr. Nick?"
Hearing this, Nick grinned and held up the small box in his hand. "Take a look inside."
Naoki reached out and took the box, noticing the Rotom Tech Company logo on it, and his heart skipped a beat.
Could it be what he was hoping for?
He opened the box and found a Rotom Phone in the shape of a Thwackey lying inside.
A Rotom Phone!
Naoki's eyes lit up. "You've succeeded in developing it?"
Nick nodded with a smile. "Yes, indeed! After several months of research by our company's scientists, we've finally created the Rotom Phone according to your design!"
"This is the first batch of Rotom Phones. We plan to officially release them to the public by the end of this year. I have a feeling that a new era is about to begin!" Nick's face shone with excitement.
Naoki took the Rotom Phone out of the box.
Since he had drawn the blueprints for the Rotom Phone himself, he was very familiar with its structure and functions.
Counting them, he found a total of five apps. Tapping on the Pokedex icon, he was soon browsing through the Pokemon species of the Padaria region.
"These are the basic apps we've developed so far," Nicca explained. "Some internet companies have caught wind of the new Rotom Phone and have started creating apps specifically for it."
"You'll be able to download those apps and install them on your phone via the internet," he added.
The Rotom Pokedex was a unique app, developed in collaboration with Ginny, a biology teacher at Padaria Academy.
Naoki nodded, currently testing out the scanning feature of the Pokedex. He adjusted the camera to focus on the Axew beside him.
A moment later, an electronic voice spoke up.
"Axew, a Pokemon capable of riding on its trainer's shoulder. It can sense danger with the tuft of fur on its head. Its fangs grow longer as it evolves, and it is said that this Pokemon has been riding with humans since ancient times, as depicted in cave paintings over ten thousand years old."
As the voice spoke, Naoki flipped the Rotom Phone over and, sure enough, found the Rotom logo on its back.
"This phone already has a Rotom inside. You can ask it anything, just like a smart AI. It will guide you through the Pokedex, provide weather forecasts, and even navigate for you. If you don't need its assistance, you can simply ask Rotom to stop."
At this point, Nicca frowned, looking slightly troubled.
"Is something wrong?" Naoki asked, tilting his head in curiosity.
"It's just that Rotom inside the phones rarely communicate like the Rotom in the Pokedex. Most of the time, they only respond with voice prompts," Nicca explained, scratching his head.
Naoki pondered this, realizing that this was also the case in the anime, though he didn't know the reason behind it.
However, there was something else he was more interested in.
"How many Rotom Phones did you produce in the first batch?" he asked.
"About a hundred thousand," Nicca replied. "But not all of them have a Rotom inside. We couldn't possibly catch that many Rotom."
Naoki nodded in understanding. After all, a Rotom Phone without Rotom wouldn't be lacking in any functionality except for the voice prompts and real-time navigation.
It seemed the Rotom inside the phones were indeed similar to AI assistants like Siri or Alexa.
"Is there anything else you'd like to know?" Nicca asked with a smile. "Thanks to you, the Rotom Phone has become a reality, and our company has gained a significant market advantage. If there's anything you want, anything at all, just name it, and I'll make it happen if it's within my power!"
However, Naoki didn't have any particular requests, nor was he lacking in money. After a moment's thought, he asked, "Can I pre-order a batch of Rotom Phones from your company?"
He planned to distribute these phones to the Pokemon on the ranch—to Reuniclus, Giratina, the Adventuring Party currently traveling, and even the Haxorus.
With the Rotom Phones, the Haxorus Express Delivery service could officially begin operations.
Using the phones' navigation and location services, Naoki's ranch could start delivering goods all over Padaria, fulfilling his initial dream.
Additionally, he could now video chat with his traveling Buneary anytime he wanted.
"Of course!" Nicca said with enthusiasm. "How many do you need? I'll have them delivered after I return!"
Naoki quickly calculated the number of Pokemon on the ranch who would need a Rotom Phone. "Fifty should be enough," he replied.
"No problem!" Nicca readily agreed. He planned to hand-pick fifty Rotom Phones with Rotom and deliver them to Naoki.
There was another reason for Nicca's visit to the ranch that day. He wanted to discuss the future of the mobile app market and its potential developments with Naoki.
Though surprised by this turn of events, Naoki began sharing his knowledge and insights, mentioning concepts like online shopping, streaming shows, live-streaming, video communication, electronic payments, global news apps, and social networking platforms for chatting with people from different regions.
He suggested something simple and direct, like WeChat, where he could easily create accounts for Buneary, Reuniclus, and Giratina, and add all the Legendary Pokemon to a group chat.
He wondered if the Legendary Pokemon would end up arguing with each other in the chat.
Nicca listened intently, his eyes lighting up from time to time as he gained new insights. He had a feeling that if these apps were successfully developed, they would connect the entire world, ushering in a brand-new era for the internet industry!
