Chapter 403: The Artificial Eye
Chapter 403: The Artificial Eye
"Of course," Makarov replied without hesitation. "Everyone is welcome as long as they're willing."
Elusa turned to Xiu, Simon, Milanna, and Varis, seeking their opinions. "What do you all think?"
Varis was taken aback. "Fairy Tail? Us?"
Milanna's eyes lit up. "Mighty Mana Cats Guild!"
Xiu, still wiping away tears, asked, "My sister's guild?"
"Wait, wait!" Simon, the most level-headed among them, spoke up. "While we're delighted by your offer, it's all so sudden. We haven't had time to prepare. At least, let's take some time to think this through."
After living in one place for over eight years, the realization that their long-cherished dream had been a deception left them all feeling lost.
They had little concept of the outside world and no idea what to do next, let alone how to plan for their future.
Making such a significant decision on the spot seemed too hasty.
Elusa nodded in agreement and smiled. "You're right. I was too eager. Let's take a break and discuss it again tomorrow."
"To not immediately agree to join Gray's guild..." Juvia mumbled, taking a deep breath and raising her hand eagerly. "Juvia has decided! I want to join Fairy Tail Guild!"
After a brief pause, she looked at Makarov with a cautious expression. "Is that okay?"
Makarov laughed and said, "I agree. Didn't I say it back then? If you have nowhere else to go, Fairy Tail is always open to you."
"Yes!" Juvia excitedly held the pendant on her chest. "Gray, I've joined Fairy Tail!"
Gray, momentarily at a loss for words, replied, "Oh, congratulations."
Mila, ever considerate, suggested, "Should we celebrate a little? The Guild Master has worked hard on the journey, and it's time for a bite to eat."
Makarov took the opportunity to negotiate. "It would be even better if we could have some wine."
Mila pouted but eventually smiled. "Alright, since you've come all this way."
The resort hotel should have provided midnight snacks, and there would have been numerous stalls outside open late into the night.
However, due to the recent incident, the hotel was temporarily closed for the day.
If they wanted to eat, they had to figure it out themselves.
Fortunately, Elusa had packed extra luggage, and Rod had made some preparations.
The group decided to set up a makeshift kitchen on the beach, complete with a barbecue grill, and cook for themselves.
Rod even released his Crab Ship, sending them into the sea to catch fresh fish.
Soon, one of the Crabs returned, carrying two large crabs in its claws.
"A Crab Ship catching sea crabs? Tsk, they're turning on their own kind..." Rod sighed, feeling his Crab Ships were too cruel, and decided to end their suffering early. "Mila, should I steam or boil these?"
"Are they this big? Elusa, do you have a suitable steamer?"
"Of course!"
Watching them skillfully prepare the ingredients, Rod couldn't help but shed tears of joy.
With twelve people and a cat, they could have a lively little feast.
As Rod peeled a crab leg, he asked, "Guild Master, last time, you gave Levy to Natsu, and this time, Lucy was given to Natsu. Shouldn't the new recruit be assigned to me for guidance?"
He hadn't had the chance to fully enjoy his status as a senior member of the Fairy Tail Guild.
Lucy protested, "What do you mean by 'giving me to Natsu'? That sounds weird."
The Canis Minor Spirit, Pru, stood with hands on hips, echoing Lucy's sentiment.
Rod casually summoned Worm to play with him.
Today, Happy was busy, constantly being held by Milanna, who even fed him whatever he wanted.
As an enemy, Happy resisted, but now as a comrade, he readily accepted.
Worm and Pru? They wouldn't feed him, and he didn't know them.
Makarov leisurely sipped his drink and casually asked, "Who do you want to take?"
"I'm fine with anyone."
"Juvia?"
"No way, I'm not that clueless."
Of course, Gray would take whoever he summoned.
"Then we'll decide when we get back. The others haven't decided yet, and they might follow Elusa." Makarov chuckled, "You might not get a chance again."
"..." Rod was unhappy. He threw the crab legs he had peeled into his mouth and drank from the Guild Master's cup.
"Give it back! I only have a little left!" Perhaps the alcohol slowed his reaction, and Makarov only managed to grab an empty cup.
The old man pouted, "Mila, you saw that. Rod took the cup, so it shouldn't count towards my share."
Mila had just peeled a crab shell and picked out the meat, keeping half for herself and feeding the other half to Rod.
She smiled and said, "What did you say? I didn't see that."
Makarov looked up at the sky, and the night was as dark as pitch.
Rod savored the crab meat, then suddenly remembered something, "Oh, Simon, I know a friend who can use magic to remove scars. If you need it, I can help you contact him."
"You mean Wendy?" Elusa also remembered, "That's right, not only can scars be removed, but your eye can also be replaced with an Artificial Eye by Babaya Grandma."
"Really?" Varis and Xiu exclaimed in unison, both hoping for Simon's recovery.
Elusa nodded in affirmation.
Milanna happily jumped with Happy in her arms, "Elusa won't lie to us! That's great, Simon! Your eye can see again."
"Recovery..." Simon was moved. He touched his eyepatch and metal jaw. If possible, he didn't want to wear these forever.
Rod was surprised, "Even the eye can be replaced?"
Lucy interjected, "Weren't you the one who suggested the treatment? Why are you so surprised?"
Elusa touched her left eye and said, "Yes, this eye is an Artificial Eye."
"Elusa has an Artificial Eye?"
Both Rod and Lucy had just learned about this, and they hadn't noticed it at all before.
Moreover, eye replacement surgery was beyond Rod's understanding, and he hadn't thoroughly researched this aspect before.
Previously, he had only heard that amputated limbs could be replaced with prosthetics, but he never imagined that even something as delicate and fragile as an eyeball could be replaced.
"That's right. I was injured when I escaped the Paradise Tower, and Babaya Grandma personally replaced my eye. There's no difference between it and a normal eye when it comes to vision."
In fact, this eye had previously been unable to produce tears, but today—or yesterday—it could function like a normal eye.
Elusa not only didn't shy away from discussing this, but she also encouraged Simon to heal the scars from the past and start a new life.
As Elusa spoke, Gray smiled, captivating Juvia.
