Chapter 403: I Never Expected You to Uncover My Identity So Quickly!
Chapter 403: I Never Expected You to Uncover My Identity So Quickly!
Ever since learning about Ivan's deeds at Hogwarts, Lupin had been in a state of anxiety for a long time, fearing that one day Ivan would come to expose his werewolf identity and drive him out of the school.
Especially after a few days ago when Severus Snape schemed against him and demonstrated the Wolfsbane Potion in front of Ivan, Lupin became even more uneasy.
Having experienced such a pleasant and relaxed teaching life, he naturally did not want to return to the days of wandering and hunger.
Fortunately, over the past few days, Ivan hadn't come to cause him any trouble. This discovery truly relieved Lupin, making him believe that Ivan hadn't discovered his identity, and he acted more naturally.
Unfortunately, the inevitable always comes. From the action of locking the door, it was clear that the young wizard in front of him had come with ill intentions.
Lupin smiled bitterly but still clung to the last shred of hope, asking nervously.
"Hals, is there something you need to talk to me about?"
"Lupin Professor, I have something I want to discuss with you alone. Oh, or perhaps I should call you Mr. Moony!" Ivan felt that using this nickname would be better for discussing the Marauder's Map and Peter.
Hearing this familiar nickname, Lupin felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. He never expected Ivan to have even uncovered this.
Since Ivan had revealed this hidden identity, it was clear that he wanted to convey that he knew everything about him. Locking the door was naturally to prevent him from escaping.
Thinking about this, Lupin sighed and said.
"Hals! I never expected you to discover my identity so quickly. You are indeed, as everyone says, the most outstanding student in Hogwarts' history. Unfortunately, I can't give you any more points for this!"
After his identity was exposed by Ivan, Lupin did not harbor any hatred towards him.
A werewolf as a professor was indeed somewhat inappropriate. Not only were there students and parents who were afraid and worried, but even he sometimes worried that he might lose control and hurt someone.
So, even if he knew he would lose his job because of this, Lupin would not blame Ivan. After all, this young wizard was just doing what he was supposed to do.
However, there was one thing Lupin couldn't understand: how could Ivan, knowing his werewolf identity, dare to come to his office alone, not fearing that he might suddenly attack?
Fighting a werewolf in a confined space wasn't a good choice!
Was it absolute confidence in his own strength?
Lupin couldn't help but think of the previous two Defense Against the Dark Arts class professors who had been driven away.
Although he didn't know if they had the same fate as him, it was clear that not everyone would surrender like he did.
Judging from their fates, Ivan indeed had the capital to be proud. In a real fight, he might not be able to beat this young wizard.
"What are you talking about, Professor?" Ivan asked, looking at Lupin who seemed to be packing his luggage and preparing to leave, with a puzzled expression.
Soon, Ivan guessed some of his thoughts and said with a mix of amusement and exasperation, "If you're referring to the werewolf issue, you can rest assured. I didn't come here to talk about that!"
Lupin paused in the middle of packing his belongings and looked at Ivan with a confused expression, not quite understanding Ivan's intentions.
If you're not here to expose my identity and drive me away, then why did you lock the door?
Moreover, from Ivan's words, Lupin could tell that this young wizard had known about his werewolf status for quite some time.
"Professor Lupin, if you have read last year's Daily Prophet, you should understand that I don't have any negative feelings towards werewolves. On the contrary, I have many werewolf friends, and it was because I learned about their living difficulties that I had the idea to create the Wolfsbane Potion."
Ivan spoke calmly, thinking it would be better to clear things up now so that Lupin wouldn't be startled every time they met.
Hearing this, Lupin's heart, which had been on edge, finally relaxed.
Before taking up the position as a professor at Hogwarts, he had to carefully budget for his daily meals and accommodation, and he certainly didn't have the money to subscribe to every issue of the Daily Prophet.
The information about the Wolfsbane Potion was something Dumbledore had told him in a letter.
Adding to that, his various encounters in the wizarding world over the years and Ivan's "record" of driving away two Defense Against the Dark Arts professors made Lupin wary of Ivan.
Recalling how he had deliberately avoided Ivan to hide his werewolf identity, Lupin couldn't help but laugh bitterly. He had never imagined that Ivan had known his secret all along and had simply chosen not to reveal it.
"Hals, if it's not about my identity, then why did you come to see me today? And how did you know about the name 'Mr. Moony'?" Lupin adjusted his emotions and asked curiously.
Ivan didn't answer directly but took out a somewhat worn piece of parchment from his robes and placed it on the table.
Lupin's gaze was immediately drawn to the parchment, his eyes flashing with surprise and nostalgia. After a long moment, he looked back at Ivan and smiled.
"Really, what a coincidence! I didn't expect you to have this. No wonder you knew about Mr. Moony. It looks like you've uncovered its secrets!"
"No, it wasn't me! It was George and Fred who solved it!" Ivan shook his head, not taking credit for himself.
"George and Fred? The Weasley Twins? Their behavior in class left a strong impression on me."
Lupin smiled, feeling a fondness for the twins who often caused mischief in class, as it often reminded him of his own days exploring the school with James and Peter.
Ivan continued without pause. "As for the meanings of the names, I learned them from the creators themselves."
Lupin's smile froze, and he frowned at Ivan. "You mean you learned this from another creator, Sirius? What exactly did he tell you that night?"
"No, I learned these secrets from another creator!" Ivan was careful not to blame Sirius, as any discrepancies could easily be caught if he and Lupin ever compared notes. He decided to pin it on Peter.
After all, Peter didn't remember anything, so he could simply say that he had no choice but to cast Obliviate on Peter after questioning him.
