Chapter 402: Pidgeot X Scar
Chapter 402: Pidgeot X Scar
Was this Pidgeot challenging him to a battle?
Naoki was suddenly perplexed by the intentions of these three Pidgeot. Why would they fly all the way from Pidgeot Island just to have a fight with his Pokemon? Sensing that these Pidgeot had an ulterior motive, Naoki asked Papu, his Diglett, to fetch some translation gourd seeds.
"Papa!" Papu nodded and immediately took off.
The big brother Pidgeot and his two sidekicks stood there menacingly, their silence speaking volumes.
During the wait, no one dared to break the tense silence.
Only Gorebyss, feeling exasperated, glanced at the three Pidgeot.
Papu returned swiftly, bringing the translation gourd seeds to Naoki in mere seconds.
Naoki patted its head and took the seeds, popping them into his mouth.
After a moment of contemplation, Naoki asked, "Why do you suddenly want to battle me?"
The big brother Pidgeot replied gravely, "Rawr!" ("Because you are strong.")
Naoki raised an eyebrow, "...So you want to battle even stronger Pokemon?"
Judging from its demeanor, this Pidgeot was far from the docile and obedient nature typical of other Pidgeot. It must have gone through numerous battles to become the formidable creature it was today.
The scar on its face, slanting downward from above its nose, added a fierce and domineering aura to a Pokemon that was usually gentle. This aura was so intense that it even rivaled the temperamental Pidgeot owned by Iris in the anime.
Upon hearing Naoki's question, the big brother Pidgeot nodded and let out a deep growl, "Hrooaarr!" ("If you win, I will work for you here, just like the other Pidgeot.")
Naoki immediately understood. This Pidgeot was acknowledging his strength and wanted to test it through a Pokemon battle, hoping that he would defeat it.
Only then would this Pidgeot truly submit to his prowess.
However, there was one thing Naoki couldn't quite grasp. What was the Pidgeot after?
Could it be for the Poke Blocks and Energy Squares?
Pondering this, Naoki voiced his question aloud.
The big brother Pidgeot's response was direct.
It wanted to become stronger! And for that, it needed a human trainer!
Startled by this declaration, Naoki quickly turned around and scanned his surroundings. Relieved to see that his own Pidgeot hadn't returned yet, he shook his head and said, "This is not something we should discuss openly. I can help you become stronger, but you don't have to consider me your trainer. Think of me as your boss instead!"
The big brother Pidgeot didn't seem to mind. It didn't fuss over titles or relationships.
"If I win this battle, will you stay and help me with my deliveries?" Naoki asked.
The Pidgeot nodded once, its word being its bond. It was a Pidgeot of honor, and if it agreed to something, it would see it through.
"Alright," Naoki inclined his head slightly. Having this Pidgeot on his team would undoubtedly benefit the future development of Pidgeot Express.
As for helping it grow stronger... Naoki would do his best to provide assistance, whether through his cooking or other means.
With this in mind, Naoki asked his final question.
"Which one of my Pokemon do you want to battle?"
Many of the ranch Pokemon had gathered around, curious about the proceedings. Among them were Gorebyss, Motostoke, Corviknight, Papu, Frosmoth, the Eeveelutions, Impidimp, Barraskewda, and Coalossal.
The big brother Pidgeot's gaze swept over the assembled Pokemon, finally settling on Gorebyss.
Its dragon-type senses told it that the red Pokemon was the strongest among them.
The aura it exuded, the look in its eyes... they all spoke of a Pokemon that had been tempered in the fires of countless battles.
Following the Pidgeot's gaze, Naoki looked at Gorebyss, and his thoughts exactly, 'This guy is a boss!'
"Gorebyss is indeed very strong.
It was about to battle the strongest Pokemon!
Naoki: "...'
Gorebyss: "...'
"Ahem, I guess this is the only way, then." Naoki turned to Gorebyss and said, "Gorebyss, I'm counting on you!"
"Agassi!"
Gorebyss stepped forward, facing the wild Salamence from a distance.
Naoki initially wanted to let the opposing Salamence make the first move, but then he thought that given its personality, such an approach might be taken as a sign of contempt and disrespect.
After some consideration, Naoki decided to have Gorebyss engage in a serious battle.
Once both Pokemon were ready, Naoki voiced his reminder: "Begin!"
The wild Salamence went all out, immediately spreading its wings and opening its mouth wide. Purple draconic energy swiftly gathered within, transforming into a tornado of power that surged forth.
"Dodge it!" Naoki commanded calmly.
He was well aware of Gorebyss' incredible speed when it fought seriously.
True to his expectations, at his command, Gorebyss' form became a fleeting afterimage as it effortlessly dodged the incoming tornado and rushed towards Salamence from the side.
Seeing its attack avoided, the wild Salamence immediately closed its mouth. The dragon wings on its back vibrated vigorously, and then it clenched its right fist, electricity crackling around it, as it struck out at Gorebyss.
The two Pokemon collided, sending a powerful gust of wind radiating outwards from the point of impact.
In this first clash, Gorebyss had held back a little.
The wild Salamence showed no signs of backing down, just like its stubborn personality. At such close range, it immediately unleashed its strongest move, Outrage.
A thick purple glow enveloped its body, and a flash of red light passed through its eyes as it began to wildly strike out at Gorebyss in an uncontrolled frenzy.
"Use Dragon Claw!" Naoki ordered.
"Agassi," Gorebyss acknowledged.
While Outrage was a powerful move, it had a very obvious weakness.
The Pokemon using it couldn't defend itself during the attack, and it would fall into a confused state after Outrage ended!
Gorebyss seized this opportunity, unleashing a massive Dragon Claw attack.
The wild Salamence's Outrage was abruptly cut short, and the powerful impact sent it flying, landing on the ground in a dazed and defeated state.
The other two Salamence, who had been following their companion, stared at Gorebyss in shock.
Naoki stepped forward and checked on the defeated Salamence before asking his sister, Ai Kanshi, who had just caught up, to bring a bottle of Life Moomoo Milk.
While waiting, he turned to the other two Salamence and asked, "Do you also want to battle my Pokemon?"
The two Salamence shook their heads. "Roar! We follow our big brother! We do what he does!"
Naoki's attention was drawn to their choice of words. These three Salamence sounded like they were part of some gang.
He bent down and gently touched the scar on the unconscious Salamence's face, asking, "How did your big brother get this scar?"
The two younger Salamence eagerly began recounting their big brother's heroic deeds.
"Roar, roar! He got it from fighting a Gyarados!"
"Roar! That Gyarados was really strong. Big brother had to use all his strength to beat it and become the boss of that sea!"
"Roar! Big brother just looks scary, but he's not a bad dragon. He would never hurt other Pokemon!"
Naoki: "...'
It was clear that these two Salamence admired their big brother greatly.
They even deliberately imitated their big brother's fierce and intimidating expression.
