Chapter 402: Cautious Kardan (Catch-Up Update)
Chapter 402: Cautious Kardan (Catch-Up Update)
"Sure enough, he came!" Kardan, perched on a branch, wore an expression of "I knew it."
He knew Su Yu would appear here, not because he had any prophetic abilities or because he and Su Yu had some secret connection, but purely through a well-reasoned guess.
Kardan didn't know that Su Yu had come to discuss a collaboration. After hearing Sylvanas's words, he assumed Su Yu would take advantage of their complacency to launch a suicide assassination in the capital of the Lyon Empire!
The Lyon capital was over 7,000 kilometers away from Golden Finch City, a distance that on Earth would be roughly equivalent to traveling from the capital of China to Australia.
Su Yu, at only the Sixth Rank, had to choose the spot near the Lyon capital where the spatial barrier was the thinnest to barely complete the teleportation.
Kardan wasn't sure if Su Yu would come or when, but to be safe, he decided to wait at the thinnest point of the spatial barrier, ready to catch the "rabbit."
After all, his hobby was reading! He could easily spend days engrossed in a book, whether in his study or in the countryside. So he waited patiently.
To his surprise, the "rabbit" appeared after just one night!
Kardan put his book away, shook off the dew from his body, and calmly flew down from the branch.
He was calm because he knew Su Yu had nowhere to run.
Su Yu's mana must have been drained by the teleportation, and the tiny bit left wouldn't be enough to evade a Legendary powerhouse.
So Kardan wasn't in a hurry at all.
But what Kardan didn't expect was how much worse Su Yu's condition was.
As soon as he stepped out of the teleportation portal, Su Yu felt dizzy and disoriented, then "thud" he fell onto the ground.
A small part of his dizziness was due to the spatial distortion from the long-distance teleportation, but the main reason was his depleted mana.
His mana was down to 5%, and that was only thanks to the equipment he borrowed from Alyssa, which increased his mana capacity.
Now, a single teleportation had drained him completely, and the extreme lack of mana almost made him pass out. He could only hold on with sheer willpower.
"Sure enough, long-distance teleportation is best avoided!" Su Yu panted on the ground, thinking to himself.
Just then, a blue-gray raven landed two meters in front of him and transformed into a human.
Su Yu was utterly shocked!
He hadn't expected that someone from the Lyon Empire would be there as soon as he arrived!
What were the odds? He didn't believe in coincidences this extreme. Could this be the legendary true prophecy?
It seemed he'd better think twice before provoking the Lyon Empire; they had some formidable powerhouses!
Once the raven's transformation was complete, Su Yu recognized the person.
This was Kardan, a Legendary mage who specialized in Arcane magic and had mastery over Arcane, Frost, Fire, and Spatial magic. He was also a trusted aide to the Lyon Emperor.
Kardan gave Su Yu a formal mage's salute and smiled, "Mr. Counter, why didn't you inform us before entering our territory? Are you implying that you don't take the Lyon Empire seriously?"
Kardan raised his staff, which resembled a drumstick, and with a light wave, deep purple Arcane energy seals fell onto Su Yu, binding him tightly.
Su Yu immediately felt as if an immensely heavy mountain was pressing down on him, making it hard to breathe and stopping all his magical energy from flowing.
In that moment, he felt as if he were experiencing what Sun Wukong must have felt when he was trapped under the Five-Finger Mountain.
However, Su Yu managed to muster his strength and said, "Khadgar, I have a very urgent matter to discuss with your emperor. I come in good faith!"
"Good faith?" Khadgar's face was full of skepticism. "Are you sure you're not here to assassinate him?"
"How could I? I’m not here to assassinate anyone; I’m not that kind of person!" Su Yu defended himself.
"You are," Khadgar nodded seriously.
Su Yu was speechless for a moment. Then, after some thought, he reluctantly placed his hand on his necklace and pulled out a letter.
This letter was written by Alyssa last night to Emperor Lyon, detailing the plan for their families to join forces against the Bellflower Kingdom.
"Take a look at this, and you'll understand." Su Yu threw the letter to Khadgar with force.
Khadgar, however, didn’t catch it. He quickly retreated 15 meters and cautiously used a spell to probe the letter for any traps.
This scene left Su Yu both amused and exasperated. Despite Khadgar's paranoia, he couldn’t help but admire the mage's caution.
Once he was sure the letter was safe, Khadgar used a Manipulate Object spell to pick it up and open it.
After reading the entire letter, his expression grew serious. Su Yu’s words were true; the letter bore Alyssa’s seal, and the ink was fresh.
However, Khadgar didn’t immediately remove the magical bindings from Su Yu. What if Su Yu was still here to assassinate the emperor, and the letter was just a ruse to make them let their guard down?
So, he made a silent decision: he wouldn’t let his guard down until Su Yu left the Lyon Empire.
"Sir, please wait a moment. I will inform the emperor of this matter and return shortly."
With that, Khadgar transformed into a raven and flew off to the northwest.
Su Yu, left with no choice, opened the official forum to pass the time by reading the discussions.
The official forum was currently buzzing with discussions about Su Yu’s speech on the city walls of Apshi.
Many players were intrigued when they learned that "Prime Minister Cao" was indeed the historical figure Cao Cao.
"Is it true that Prime Minister Cao likes widows and married women? Has he kept that preference?" one player asked.
"Probably not. Even human lust has its limits. It’s been almost 2000 years since the Three Kingdoms era; Prime Minister Cao's lust should have long since passed," another player responded.
"Can we please avoid these trivial topics?" a player quickly chimed in. "CEO Ke said it clearly: if we don’t defeat the Skrulls, we will all die! Let’s focus on the important matters, okay?"
"You’re right, I apologize. Cough, let’s get back to the important stuff," the first player conceded.
Thanks to the government’s implementation of real-name registration on the official forum, players could now be identified by their detailed profiles, including their names, ages, and occupations.
In the past, a player like the one who asked the trivial question would have stubbornly refused to admit fault and would have continued to argue and insult others. But with real-name registration, everyone became much more civil.
Su Yu, however, didn’t post on the forum. Given his current fame, even casual chatter would draw a lot of attention. Time was precious, and he didn’t want to waste the players’ energy on trivial matters, so he avoided posting whenever possible.
...
After waiting for over ten minutes, Khadgar finally returned.
