Chapter 402: A Promise Made
Chapter 402: A Promise Made
December 6th, 2024
"Elder Qin, you're being too polite. Once words are spoken and water is spilled, there's no taking them back."
Jiang Cheng shook his head.
The main reason was that he now possessed the Moonlight Jade Pendant, which allowed him to fully recover his psychic energy through meditation.
He had been practicing alchemy for several months, and he was getting sick of it. Once he reached the Resistance Army, he would only need to refine two or three furnaces a day to complete his task.
Splitting a small portion, one or two percent, wouldn't be a problem.
"Elder Qin, you mentioned earlier that helping to cultivate alchemists would provide additional cultivation resources, right?"
"That's correct."
Elder Qin quickly replied, "I won't hide it from you, little brother. While our conditions here are passable, they are definitely not as good as those in the Inner City. We also lack people, and all kinds of talents are in short supply. Therefore, for those who want to join us, we will offer excellent conditions, including a welcome gift. This is especially true in your case, as you are a 10th Rank Alchemist."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng secretly rejoiced at the prospect of such a good opportunity.
However, it made sense that the Resistance Army would offer such conditions, as they were only average among the many factions and might not even compare to a single family in the Inner City.
It was normal for the cost of recruiting to be high.
"Elder Qin, what kind of welcome gift would I be eligible for?"
After all, it was a case of something for nothing, and although he was already a Grandmaster, he currently possessed neither talismans nor treasures.
Even among First Rank Grandmasters, this was considered quite pitiful.
"Hahaha!"
Elder Qin burst into laughter, not the least bit angry, and even hoped that Jiang Cheng would ask this question.
"Little brother, I'm aware of some of your recent accomplishments. Your strength has likely reached the level of a 7th or 8th Rank Force Warrior, right? It's truly unbelievable. I still remember when I first met you; you were only a 3rd Rank Force Warrior. In just a few months, your strength has skyrocketed."
After expressing his amazement, he continued, "For an ordinary 7th or 8th Rank Force Warrior who joins us, we would typically provide them with a corresponding weapon or defensive treasure. For example, an 8th Rank Force Warrior would receive an A-Class Alloy Weapon or a Mid-High Grade Tier 3 Treasure.
But you are different, little brother. You are also a Mind Master and an Alchemist, so we can offer you two... no, three cultivation resources, techniques, weapons, talismans, or whatever you need."
"Really? Three items?" Jiang Cheng asked, delighted.
"Of course. Little brother, you said it yourself—a gentleman's word is as solid as a horse chasing after its prey. How could I possibly go back on my word?" Elder Qin laughed heartily.
How expensive could the weapons and treasures used by 8th or 9th Rank Force Warriors be?
"Elder Qin, what if I were a Grandmaster?"
"Still three items. What? You're a Grandmaster?" Elder Qin's expression changed, and his voice suddenly rose several notches.
"Yes, a First Rank Grandmaster."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
"A... First Rank Grandmaster?" Elder Qin's eyes widened, his mouth agape.
Was Jiang Cheng a First Rank Grandmaster?
How could this be? He remembered that Jiang Cheng was only a 3rd Rank Force Warrior back then. How much time had passed? Half a year?
In just half a year, he had advanced from a 3rd Rank Force Warrior to a First Rank Grandmaster?
"Little brother, are you joking with me?"
"Elder Qin, how could I possibly joke about something like this?" Jiang Cheng smiled. "If I weren't a Grandmaster, even if I received cultivation resources meant for Grandmasters, they wouldn't be very effective, right?
"Or is Elder Qin unwilling to part with a Third Rank Treasure?"
"Impossible!" Elder Qin immediately refuted without a moment's hesitation. "It's just three treasures. As long as you join us, I'll give you ten if you want! But for a Grandmaster's cultivation resources, it's not a decision I can make alone. I'll have to discuss it with the others. Rest assured, three treasures are definitely no problem. If it's not enough, I'll twist my own head off for you!"
"No, Elder Qin, I still just want three treasures," Jiang Cheng said with a wry smile.
"I was just making a comparison, wasn't I?" Elder Qin chuckled.
Three treasures for a Grandmaster were indeed a bit pricey, but if they could recruit Jiang Cheng, it would be well worth it.
However, all of this was just Jiang Cheng's side of the phone conversation. Whether he was truly a Grandmaster or not, they would only know after meeting in person.
"Little brother, has your spirit power also reached the Grandmaster level?"
"Not quite," Jiang Cheng shook his head. "It's still a long way off."
Elder Qin heaved a sigh of relief. If Jiang Cheng's spirit power had also reached the Grandmaster level, he wouldn't know what to think.
"Little brother, aside from that request, do you have any others? Feel free to bring them up."
"That's the main one. As for ensuring the safety of my family, I'm sure I don't need to tell you that you'll take care of it."
"Of course."
Elder Qin smiled and said, "We will definitely guarantee your safety and that of your family. After you arrive, we'll also strive to maintain your previous standard of living."
"Elder Qin, you're too kind. We're just ordinary people. We used to live in the slums, and after arriving at the base, as long as we can eat and stay warm, that's enough."
Jiang Cheng shook his head and asked the question that concerned him the most, "Elder Qin, how do you plan to take us out of here? The place I'm in has strong defenses, and if you try to force your way in, it might not be a good idea."
Elder Qin's expression turned serious.
"Indeed, the neighborhood you're in has many Grandmasters. It's easy for us to get in, but it's challenging to get you out, especially with several ordinary people involved. How about this: find an opportunity to go out, saying you want to take your family for a walk. Once you're outside, we can ensure your safe departure. Even if the Ancient Family realizes what's happening, we'll have already left for the mountains by then."
"Alright."
Jiang Cheng nodded and added, "But the Ancient Family keeps a close eye on me. Even if they agree and let me go out, they'll send experts to watch over me."
"No need to worry."
Elder Qin let out a hearty laugh.
"For this operation, we'll make sure everything goes smoothly. We just need a few days to prepare. So, in a few days, when you find an opportunity to go out, send us a message, and leave the rest to us."
"Okay, I understand."
Jiang Cheng agreed.
He indeed needed a few days to prepare.
Currently, there was unrest in his current location, with rumors of people planning to change jobs and work for other branches of the Ancient Family or even other families.
After chatting a bit more, Jiang Cheng ended the call, put down his phone, and sat down to cultivate as if nothing had happened.
He didn't plan to tell his family about this matter. Gu Changlin and the others weren't fools; they were quite intelligent. If they noticed something amiss from his family, it would be problematic.
