Chapter 401: An Unexpected Reward
Chapter 401: An Unexpected Reward
"Ace, I'll leave this matter to you!" Alyssa exclaimed with joy.
"Don't worry, I've got it covered," Su Yu smiled.
At that moment, Morning Star lifted her head from the pile of snacks, her eyes filled with concern. "Ace, I don't mean to dampen the mood, but what if Emperor Lyon refuses to form an alliance? What then?"
"Switching sides repeatedly would tarnish his international reputation. I don't think Emperor Lyon will agree outright. If he doesn't, won't you become a laughingstock to the entire nation?"
"Don't worry about that," Su Yu ruffled Morning Star's small head. "This is just Plan A. If it doesn't work, I have Plan B. Otherwise, why would I be so confident?"
"Plan B? What's that?" Alyssa asked, her curiosity piqued.
"Plan B is to buy grain from the Pandaren Empire," Su Yu smiled. "The Pandaren are skilled farmers, and their granaries hold more grain than the combined reserves of our three empires! We can get enough grain from them."
Alyssa frowned. "I've thought about that too, but the Pandaren Empire's principle is non-interference in other nations' affairs, especially during this sensitive period. Selling us grain would have significant political implications. I doubt they would sell us any."
"You're wrong," Su Yu shook his head. "The Pandaren don't sell grain to us because we haven't offered them something truly valuable. Psychic Coins, gold, and silver, no matter how much, aren't enough to impress them."
"But fortunately, I know the locations of several 'Pandaren Treasures.' Once I dig them up, the Pandaren will be moved and willing to trade grain for them!"
In his previous life, when Su Yu entered the game, it was already during the "Pandaren Empire" expansion. His knowledge of this expansion far exceeded the previous two, so obtaining valuable treasures to trade for grain was as easy as catching a fly for a spider.
"Alright then!" Alyssa sighed in relief, lying back on the swing. "I hope you complete this mission successfully... and when you do, I'll give you an unexpected reward!"
"Oh? What kind of reward?"
"Heh, you'll find out after you complete the mission."
While the two and the cat were swinging in the palace garden, Sylvanas had already returned to Lyon's capital, Palomia City.
Emperor Lyon, upon receiving news of Sylvanas's return, immediately summoned her.
In the grandest study of the palace, Sylvanas met the revered Emperor Lyon.
Emperor Lyon, [Shawn Violet], appeared to be a middle-aged man in his forties, but he had actually ruled Lyon for two hundred years.
Two hundred years ago, he succeeded his father as the Duke of Lyon, with a territory of only 150,000 square kilometers, roughly the size of 1.5 Jiangsu Provinces or 2.7 Tongliao cities.
Over the next century, he waged wars to the south and north, defeating his most formidable enemy, the [Anjou Kingdom] with a pure white banner, and eventually expanded his territory to the size of 13 Jiangsu Provinces, forming the current [Lyon Empire].
However, the Lyon Empire's territory was only a third of the size of the Golden Rose Empire, and its resources were far from sufficient.
Thus, even after the brutal civil war, the Golden Rose Empire still had the upper hand over the Bellflower and Lyon Empires, up to this day.
After entering the study, Sylvanas noticed two other people present besides the Emperor: [Anduin].
Alongside Cardigan, they are the emperor's most trusted advisors.
Sylvanas nodded slightly to the two of them, a gesture of greeting.
"Shiva, what's the urgent matter that brought you back so quickly?" the emperor inquired.
"Indeed, it is important, Your Majesty," Sylvanas bowed deeply. "This morning, I encountered the empire's most wanted criminal, the interdimensional adventurer known as Nemesis. He's the one who self-detonated to kill Grandex."
"Ah? You encountered Nemesis?" Emperor Llane's eyes narrowed, and he sat up straight. "Did you capture him, or did he escape?"
At this, Cardigan glanced at Anduin, whose dark shadow energy was pulsing irregularly, indicating his deep concern.
"I apologize, Your Majesty, but I was unable to capture him," Sylvanas lowered her head. "However, he wants to make a deal with me."
She then recounted the entire encounter with Su Yu in great detail.
Finally, she asked, "Your Majesty, should we agree to his terms?"
"What do you think?" Emperor Llane leaned back in his chair, resting his chin on his hand.
Sylvanas hesitated before responding, "From my perspective, I would like to make the deal. With these high-quality cursed souls, I have a chance to reach the peak of the Legendary realm!"
Emperor Llane nodded noncommittally and turned to the other two in the study. "What do you think?"
Anduin thought for a moment and replied, "Regarding the Hall of the Dead, I support Shiva and Nemesis working together. Walnut has suffered a significant loss of power, and this is an opportunity we cannot miss. As for Shepherd Yoric, I believe we should be more cautious. We shouldn't betray our allies at this sensitive time."
Cardigan, on the other hand, transformed into a raven and flew out the window.
As he flew, he called back, "I don't care about this. I'm leaving."
Emperor Llane sighed, "Of course, that's just Cardigan being Cardigan. I'm used to it."
Shaking his head, he turned to Sylvanas. "Anduin's thoughts align with mine. Do you agree?"
"Understood. I will act according to your will," Sylvanas bowed stiffly and walked out of the emperor's study, leaving Llane and Anduin to exchange uncertain glances.
The raven that was Cardigan flew southeast, circling every five miles.
Finally, after flying 30 kilometers, he landed on a branch of a large tree in the forest.
The raven used his magic to sense the surroundings and nodded. "Good. The weakest point in the spatial barrier should be here."
He then perched on the branch and pulled out a thick book, engrossing himself in reading until dawn.
As the night faded and the morning of the next day arrived, the dew on the branches dampened the raven's blue-gray feathers, but he paid no heed, continuing to read.
Occasionally, he would release a powerful aura, scaring all the animals within a 10-kilometer radius into fleeing.
Finally, at 7:00 AM, Cardigan's patience was rewarded.
A bright white portal opened three meters in front of him, and Su Yu, dressed in a blue robe, emerged gracefully from it.
