Chapter 40: Omnisight
Chapter 40: Omnisight
June 17th.
Early in the morning, Qiao Sang arrived at Mingpei Junior High School with her mother.
The High School Entrance Exam rooms were distributed by district, with examinees from each school randomly assigned to different exam sites.
Qiao Sang was assigned to Class 17 at Mingpei Junior High School.
"Did you bring your Exam Admission Ticket?"
"Yes."
"Did you bring your pens and other supplies?"
"Yes."
"During the exam, do the questions you know first, and leave the difficult ones for last, okay?"
"Got it."
"Go in, and I'll be here to pick you up when you're done", her mother said gently.
This was the first time her mother had been so gentle since the loss of the Spiky Bear's signature, and Qiao Sang felt a bit out of place.
"Mom..."
Her mother's tone grew even gentler. "What is it?"
"The time hasn't come yet, I can't go in", Qiao Sang said helplessly.
If she could, she would change her habit of arriving at places half a day early.
Mother: "..."
...
Each classroom had not only two teachers proctoring but also two familiars.
Qiao Sang sat quietly in the sixth seat of the fifth row.
A purple-blue rodent familiar was using its antenna to touch each examinee's body. The blue antenna, about seven to eight centimeters long, was located on its forehead and resembled a radio antenna.
Qiao Sang, who had recently improved slightly as a struggling student, recognized this familiar as a Purple Voltmouse.
Purple Voltmouse, an Electric Familiar.
It could use its antenna to detect the presence of electronic devices.
The Purple Voltmouse touched each examinee one by one. When it reached the third seat in the third row, the antenna suddenly emitted a purple electric spark.
"Ah!"
The examinee in the third seat of the third row involuntarily cried out, and the pen in his right hand slipped and rolled onto the desk.
The current was low, and the examinee only experienced a slight tingling in his hand with no other effects.
"Vava."
The Purple Voltmouse pointed at the examinee in the third seat of the third row and called out.
"Take it out", the female teacher sitting at the podium stood up and said as she approached the Purple Voltmouse.
The examinee's face turned pale, and he pressed his lips tightly together without moving.
"I'll say it again, take it out", the female teacher repeated.
Under the watchful eyes of the surrounding examinees and the teacher's stern gaze, the examinee parted his hair and pulled out a small electronic device, about the size of a button battery.
This device was nothing unusual; it could transmit answers to multiple-choice questions through mental signals from a distance, but it couldn't help with fill-in-the-blank or essay questions.
Only a Psionic Familiar could achieve such a transmission ability, which meant he had a partner with a Psionic Familiar who could see the exam paper.
Of course, this partner could not be the examinee.
"You will have to forfeit your score in this subject", the female teacher said without hesitation as she confiscated the device and took the examinee's test paper.
After the examinee broke down and wiped away his tears, the female teacher raised her voice. "If anyone has any electronic devices, take them out now. Don't harbor any illusions of getting away with it. If Purple Voltmouse detects them, your scores will be invalidated."
No one spoke.
Fortunately, the Purple Voltmouse continued its touch without any further incidents.
Another familiar, resembling an eyeball, split into five or six smaller versions as the examinees began writing, floating in different directions around the room.
This familiar was called Omnisight, and the images seen by its split bodies were directly shared with its main body.
It provided comprehensive, unobstructed monitoring of the exam room.
Considered an essential familiar for proctoring, it was not only used in the High School Entrance Exam but also in the College Entrance Exam.
However, the Omnisight used for the College Entrance Exam had a more powerful skill, capable of splitting into at least ten smaller versions.
Qiao Sang focused intently on her exam paper when suddenly an Omnisight appeared beside her writing hand.
Qiao Sang's hand involuntarily trembled.
The eye with spiral-patterned pupils kept changing angles, alternating between staring at the exam paper and her face.
After 5 seconds with no unusual occurrences, the Omnisight left.
Qiao Sang felt that the High School Entrance Exam tested not only knowledge but also psychological resilience.
Who wouldn't be startled if a familiar in the shape of an eyeball suddenly appeared and stared at them while they were concentrating on their answers?!
The thought processes she had just formulated were all interrupted!
Fortunately, after two days in this exam environment, Qiao Sang had become numb to it. Even if two Omnisights appeared on either side, she could calmly finish her answers.
June 19th.
The last day of the High School Entrance Exam's cultural tests.
After finishing her last exam, Qiao Sang went home and fell into bed, pulling the covers over her head to sleep.
She had been in a state of high tension for a long time, and once the exam was over, all she wanted was a good sleep.
Little did she know, she slept until 7:02 PM.
When Qiao Sang woke up, her head felt much clearer. She had never experienced such a refreshing sleep before.
She leaned against the bed and looked out the window.
The sky outside was completely dark, but the moonlight and the city's lights made it slightly brighter.
The room was dark, and the gap under the door revealed that the living room lights were also off. The place was quiet, and Fangflare wasn't nearby.
Feeling a bit lonely, Qiao Sang got up and looked down at the neighborhood from the window.
There were many people downstairs: children playing, couples walking, and elderly people enjoying the cool evening.
But Qiao Sang immediately recognized three figures at the edge.
It was her mother, Fangflare, and Plump Homing Dove.
She quietly watched them for three minutes before realizing she was hungry...
She remembered making dinner plans with Fang Sisi before she went to sleep.
Down in the neighborhood.
"Yah!"
Fangflare spotted Qiao Sang right away and happily called out, leaping into her arms.
Fangflare was still wearing a 15kg gravity ring, making Qiao Sang's arms heavy, but she caught it steadily.
"Mom, I'm going out for a bit", Qiao Sang said.
"Okay", her mother nodded.
Qiao Sang had already told her mother about her dinner plans with Fang Sisi before going to sleep, so her mother didn't ask any more questions.
...
20 minutes later.
Qiao Sang, carrying Fangflare, arrived at the agreed-upon hot pot restaurant.
"Damn!"
"Fangflare!"
Two exclamations came from table 27.
Besides Fang Sisi, Lu Siya was also there.
The agreed time was 7 PM, and although Qiao Sang was over half an hour late, Fang Sisi and Lu Siya were too focused on Fangflare to ask any questions.
"You actually bonded with Fangflare!" Lu Siya exclaimed in shock.
"Qiao Sang, you're so unfair. You only show us Fangflare now?" Fang Sisi said.
She looked at the seemingly well-behaved Fangflare, wanting to touch it but too afraid to.
This was her first time being so close to a Fire Familiar...
Qiao Sang, eating her sliced meat, asked, "Siya, you seemed to know I had Awakened for a while?"
A normal person, upon seeing a classmate who hadn't Awakened yet holding Fangflare, would ask how they managed to get a Fangflare, not directly say, "You actually bonded with Fangflare."
Fang Sisi fell silent instantly.
Lu Siya glanced at Fang Sisi and promptly betrayed her, saying, "Fang Sisi told me two weeks ago."
Indeed...
Qiao Sang wasn't surprised. She should have expected it.
Fang Sisi had already spread the news about the Class Teacher's hair; expecting her to keep a secret was like expecting Fangflare to climb a tree.
