Chapter 40: Confession.
A/N: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Enjoy the chapter. (cheeky smile)
"Are you sure she saw all those papers we left? I told you guys this was a dumb idea", Adrian complained, his eyebrows creasing in worry.
The others just grunted in response. Adrian had called Helen, Chris and Everett for an impromptu meeting and the looks on their faces showed that they didn't like it. They were planning to rest that afternoon for their birthday surprise for Allison that evening. Only Everett was on par with Adrian's worry.
"It's true. Her mind has been on the agent exam. How are we so sure she noticed them?"
"Wow! Hell must have frozen over. You two are actually agreeing!", Helen pointed out.
On her end, Allison did notice the paper trail. Her first instinct was to ignore them but she still picked them up.
It read:
"Go down the hallway"
She was confused and thought it was a trap. However, remembering she was in Shadow, she felt safe and went down the hallway. Reaching there, she saw another note. "Turn left".
She kept on following the trail until she reached a training room. She found the last paper at the foot of the door. "Enter".
She entered and was greeted with a sea of balloons, glitters and ribbons. "Happy Birthday!!!!".
They began to compete on who will hold the placard but her voice stopped the struggle.
"Thank you, guys. You didn't have to do this but I'm touched".
"Of course. You should be. There's no way you won't be touched. We spent two days planning this after all", Adrian said, stepping forward.
"We even thought that you didn't see the papers".
Allison smiled. "As an agent, taking notice of everything is a must".
"Urgh, you sound like Agent Walters", Helen said, wringing her nose in fake disgust.
"Cut her some slack. Today is her birthday", Chris said.
"Oh, thank you, Chris. I see you're the only one who cares about me", Allison said, her hand on her chest in mock appreciation.
Helen wedged herself between the two of them. "Be careful. You may be my friend but that's my boyfriend you're talking to".
They all laughed and their little celebration continued. Alcohol wasn't allowed for SSs but Everett being the troublemaker he is, managed to get some. Allison behaved like a good agent and didn't take one sip but the others didn't care.
Later that night, after Allison had made sure that Helen was out like a light and Courtney was nowhere to be found (as always), she slipped out of the dorm.
That evening, while following the paper trail, Allison had read a paper that was different from the others. It read:
"This night, meet me in the cafeteria. Alone. I'll be waiting.
A friend."
This time, Allison literally threw caution to the wind and made her way to the cafeteria. She looked through a side window and saw that everywhere was pitch black. Cautiously, she opened the door and stepped through.
Immediately she did that, the cafeteria lit to reveal the back of someone she felt was familiar. She took measured steps towards the person. "Hello?"
The person turned around to reveal Everett holding a single rose in hand and beaming at her. "Everett! Are you the one that left me that note?"
He walked closer to her until he was only a step away from her. "Who were you expecting?"
Allison shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. Did you set this up by yourself?"
It wasn't her fault for asking that question. The place was decorated with balloons, ribbons and on and off lights and Everett was known to be a lazy person if not the person that invented the word. "Yes, I did. It took a while but I finished it".
"Why?"
He moved closer. "Allison Harper, from the very first day I met you, I felt something. I didn't know what it was but as I got to know you more and hang out with you, I knew I had fallen for you. Beyond redemption. Every little thing you did, I just fell harder. I wanted to be the reason for your every smile and I wanted to make your happy moments last longer just so I could see more of your smiles. For the past one year, I have been watching and admiring you from afar. You were like a bright and delicate flower that couldn't be tainted".
Allison's heart was beating fast and Helen's words from a year ago replayed like a broken record 'You will get your heart broken if you get involved with my brother'. She managed a tight smile. "You sound like a stalker".
"Call me what you want but my feelings for you are real. Allison Harper, will you be my girlfriend?"
