Chapter 4: Selecting a Fishing Spot
Chapter 4: Selecting a Fishing Spot
Lu Qing, followed by a group of young children, arrived at a river outside the village.
The river wasn't particularly wide, with the broadest section stretching only about ten meters across. However, despite its narrow width, the river was quite deep, reaching heights that could surpass a person's head. For this reason, adults always forbade the village children from playing near the river.
Lu Qing, of course, heeded this warning.
So, upon reaching the riverbank, he sternly instructed the children tagging along, "All of you, stay away from the river's edge, and don't play in the water. Understand?"
Despite his frail appearance, Lu Qing was already fourteen or fifteen years old, which made him seem like a semi-adult in the eyes of the children.
As such, they dared not disobey him and obediently replied, "Yes, Brother Lu Qing."
Seeing that the children had agreed, Lu Qing turned to Xiao Yan and said, "And you, Xiao Yan, be a good girl and stay away from the river's edge too. Just stay here and watch the bucket, okay? Don't let the fish escape."
"Okay~" Xiao Yan obediently agreed and then asked, "Brother, when will you start fishing?"
"Don't rush me," Lu Qing replied. "I need to find the right spot. You can't just fish anywhere and expect to catch good fish."
Lu Qing was speaking from experience.
When it came to fishing, there were several crucial steps that greatly influenced the likelihood of a good catch.
For instance, selecting the right spot, preparing the fishing nest, adjusting the float, and choosing the right bait—each step played a significant role.
Among these steps, the most critical was undoubtedly the selection of the fishing spot.
A good fishing spot could directly impact the chances of catching fish.
After all, even a skilled chef couldn't create a delicious meal without the right ingredients. Similarly, if you chose a poor fishing spot devoid of fish, even the most talented angler with the finest techniques would labor in vain.
In his past life, Lu Qing had been an avid fisherman, and he had gained considerable knowledge and experience in the art of fishing.
He was particularly adept at selecting fishing spots.
Although he now found himself in another world, he believed that many principles and patterns in this new world would be similar to those in his previous one.
Surely the habits of fish wouldn't differ too much between worlds.
With this in mind, Lu Qing wondered if he could rely on his past life's experience to choose an excellent fishing spot, thus increasing his chances of a bountiful catch.
He dismissed the idea of preparing a fishing nest, as his family lacked sufficient food for themselves, let alone extra grain to spare for luring fish.
After instructing the children not to wander off, Lu Qing sat under a large tree and began to walk along the riverbank, his eyes scanning the water's surface.
Soon, he discovered a promising spot.
Picking up a stick, he used it to push down the tall grass along the shore, then made his way to the chosen location and started observing the area.
It was a bend in the river where the current was gentle and the aquatic plants flourished—an ideal fishing spot, in his opinion.
Lu Qing studied the area for a while, feeling increasingly pleased with his choice. Just as he turned to head back and fetch his fishing rod, a familiar gray light caught his eye.
By now, Lu Qing was all too familiar with this gray light; he had encountered it countless times throughout the day.
He froze in place, his eyes fixed on the water's surface.
The gray light gradually materialized, forming a spiral ripple about a meter in diameter.
Then, a line of text appeared:
[Ordinary Fishing Spot: A gathering place for small fish. Seems like a decent choice for fishing.]
The location described was precisely the spot Lu Qing had just chosen.
Lu Qing was stunned for a moment, then a surge of delight filled his heart.
His ability could even identify fishing spots? He felt a sense of pride.
Indeed, his experience in selecting fishing spots was impressive, earning the acknowledgment of his ability.
With this unexpected discovery, Lu Qing's eagerness to start fishing subsided, and he decided to take his time.
Chapter 3: The First Fishing Spot
Lu Qing continued walking along the riverbank, but this time, he deliberately used his supernatural ability to search for a fishing spot.
Before long, in this section of the river, he discovered two new fishing spots.
What surprised him even more was that one of the spots emitted a faint white light instead of the usual gray glow.
【Primary Fishing Spot: A gathering place for various fish species. The currents here are gentle, and the aquatic plants provide ample food. Fishing here may yield unexpected surprises.】
Two lines of text, one for the gray-glowing fishing spot and the other for the white-glowing one, which seemed to indicate different grades.
"Indeed, the gray light and white light seem to represent different levels of fishing spots," Lu Qing muttered to himself.
Moreover, from the text descriptions, it was clear that there were even more advanced fishing spots to be found.
However, he wondered if there would be such high-level spots in this small river outside the village.
After discovering these three fishing spots, Lu Qing decided not to continue his search.
These spots already covered the cleaner and more accessible section of the river outside the village.
If he were to venture further, the vegetation on both sides of the river would become denser, making it more difficult to walk, let alone fish.
He didn't have the energy to clear a path or create a fishing spot there.
Besides, these three fishing spots were more than enough for his current needs.
Now, he just needed to decide where to cast his line.
After some deliberation, Lu Qing ultimately chose to start at the very first fishing spot he had discovered.
The reason was simple.
Based on the information provided by his ability, that particular spot was likely to attract smaller fish.
The fishing rod he had made was quite basic, and he wasn't sure if the twine he had used was strong enough to handle larger catches.
If he tried to catch a big fish and the line snapped, he would be out of luck.
After all, there wasn't enough twine left to make another line.
More importantly, he only had one fish hook, and if he lost that, he wouldn't be able to fish at all.
So, it was safer to start with smaller fish.
Having made up his mind, Lu Qing began his journey back to the large tree where the children had been waiting. He was pleased to see that they had all stayed put.
In fact, he hadn't gone far, always staying within the children's line of sight, as he knew these mischievous kids tended to wander off if they couldn't see him.
"Brother Lu Qing, you're back!"
Little Yan was the first to greet him excitedly.
"Mm-hmm, I'm back."
"So, have you decided where you're going to fish?"
"Yes, let's go there now."
Hearing that Lu Qing had made a decision, the children's spirits lifted.
One of the more quick-witted kids immediately offered to help carry the wooden bucket. "Brother Lu Qing, let me carry that for you!"
Lu Qing didn't refuse. These kids, the oldest being twelve and the youngest around eight or nine, were at an age where they had abundant energy. It would be good to let them exert themselves a bit.
Soon enough, the group arrived at the fishing spot Lu Qing had chosen.
"All of you stay up here and watch me fish. Don't go too close to the river, understand? Ah Hu, you're the oldest, so help me keep an eye on them."
Ah Hu was the oldest among the children, already twelve years old and quite sensible.
"Okay, Brother Lu Qing!"
Seeing that the children agreed to his instructions, Lu Qing nodded in satisfaction. He then picked up his fishing rod and bucket and made his way down the slope to the chosen fishing spot.
