Chapter 4: Hello, Hogwarts
Chapter 4: Hello, Hogwarts
After emphasizing the important points for the semester, Dumbledore seemed to revert to his usual eccentric and kind-hearted headmaster. He wore a slightly tilted Wizard Hat and announced loudly,
"Before we go to bed, let's all sing the school song!"
As Dumbledore spoke, Ivan noticed the Professors on the stage change their expressions, and a few of the Upper-year Students looked as if they were suffering from constipation.
Dumbledore, however, continued to wave his Wand, from which a long golden ribbon emerged, forming words like a snake.
The Wand acted as a conductor, and under Dumbledore's guidance, the entire school began to sing the Hogwarts School Song in the Great Hall.
"Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, please teach us, whether old or bald, or young men with leg hair, our heads can be filled with new and interesting things."
Various versions and tunes were mixed together, and with the Weasley Twins trying their best to disrupt and lead everyone astray, Ivan joined in, singing a few lines. Surprisingly, he found the mixed tones quite pleasant.
Ivan couldn't help but wonder if his musical taste was off.
Fortunately, he wasn't the only one who felt this way. Headmaster Dumbledore, the respected white wizard, was so moved by the music that he almost cried. It took him a while to break free from the melody, and he wiped his eyes while reminding the prefects to lead the students back to their dorms.
Ivan followed the flow of Gryffindor first-years up a spiral staircase to the highest floor.
At the end of the corridor, Percy stopped in front of a wall with a painting of the Fat Lady. Before the first-years could ask, they saw the Fat Lady move, change her pose, and solemnly ask,
"What is the Password?"
"Draconis." Percy replied.
The Fat Lady nodded and moved aside, revealing a round hole in the wall. Ivan knew this was the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room.
Upon entering, Ivan found the place much larger than he had imagined.
The Red Lion Banner, representing Gryffindor, hung in the air, and the spacious Common Room was neatly arranged with several long tables, under which comfortable armchairs were placed. A dark brown Fireplace stood against the left wall, its burning flames providing light and warmth to the chilly night.
The Gryffindor Dormitory housed five students per room, with five Four-poster Beds arranged in a spacious room. Each bed had its own luggage, neatly stacked beside it.
Since Ivan had no prior memory, he couldn't even recognize his own Trunk or bed.
Just as Ivan was about to wait for his roommates to choose their beds, a grayish-white Owl suddenly flew from the west railing to Ivan's shoulder, gently pecking his face.
"Maca?" Ivan was initially surprised, but then the name came to him unbidden.
"Co-co", the grayish-white Owl responded.
"Whether or not it's you, from now on, I'll call you Maca." Ivan gently scratched the Owl's neck, and Maca closed her eyes in contentment.
With Maca's guidance, Ivan quickly identified his bed, which was against the west wall. There were few items around it, just bedding, pillows, some clothes, and a few textbooks.
Notably, Ivan found a small plaque next to his bed, inscribed with "Ivan Hals."
The other beds also had similar signs, but Ivan hadn't noticed them until now.
Ivan didn't stay alone in the Dormitory for long before the sound of the door opening echoed from outside, followed by a somewhat familiar voice.
"I didn't expect the sorting to just be about wearing a hat. I thought we'd have to fight a Troll. I knew I shouldn't have believed George's nonsense."
The one who pushed the door open was a young wizard with fiery red hair and freckles on his nose, mumbling to himself. Behind him was a boy wearing glasses, looking somewhat thin.
Harry? Ron?
Ivan was somewhat surprised, then he remembered something. There weren't many new students at Hogwarts each year, and since he was in the Gryffindor house, it made sense that he would be sharing a Dormitory with Harry.
"Hello, I'm Ivan Hals!" Ivan walked forward and greeted them.
"Hey, I'm Ron Weasley", Ron finally noticed Ivan's presence.
"Hi, I'm Harry Potter", Harry extended his hand at that moment.
Ivan first shook hands with Harry, then looked at Ron and smiled. "At the ceremony, your brothers, George and Fred, mentioned you."
"Oh, bloody hell, I don't believe they said anything good about me", Ron thought of how George and Fred often teased him, and he felt a surge of annoyance.
Harry, on the other hand, was pleased by Ivan's attitude, which was different from what he usually encountered. Since entering the wizarding world, every time he met other wizards, they either made a big fuss or wanted to see the lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
To be honest, Harry thought such behavior was incredibly stupid.
Friendship among young wizards can sometimes be formed in a short time, especially since Ivan, who had read the original story, knew everything about the two. After a brief conversation, they quickly became friends.
Harry talked about the unfair treatment he had received before coming to the wizarding world, while Ron shared a couple of funny stories about being pranked by the Weasley Twins. Before long, Neville and another young wizard from the Dormitory joined in, and they chatted until late into the night before finally going to bed.
The series of events throughout the night left Ivan quite exhausted. As soon as he touched the bed, his body went limp, and he forgot all about his plan to explore the System.
Dimly, he could hear Ron complaining about his rat, Scabbers. Ivan glanced up, then pulled the covers over his head, his lips moving silently.
Hello, Hogwarts!
The next morning, Ivan woke up from a dream, looking around in a daze for a while before realizing he had classes to attend.
Suddenly transitioning from a hospital bed to a classroom was a bit of a shock, but Ivan had no intention of being late for his first class at Hogwarts. Despite it being early, he decided to leave early to avoid the tricky stairs in the school.
Of course, before leaving, he didn't forget to wake up the still-sleeping Ron and Harry.
Whether it was due to Harry's savior aura or Ivan's bad luck, they encountered two disappearing steps just on the way down. Poor Ron even bumped his head on a Disguised Wall!
Fortunately, it was thanks to Ron's demonstration that Ivan and Harry managed to avoid the same fate.
