Chapter 4: Golurk
Chapter 4: Golurk
Naoki toured the ranch, committing the layout of the entire ranch to memory. As he made his way back with Motostoke, he suddenly recalled the elderly mayor mentioning that he had left some items for him in the storeroom behind the house.
Circling around the wooden house, Naoki entered the storeroom and spotted various tools placed on top of a large box as he pushed open the door.
There were hammers, sickles, hoes, sprayers, axes, a packet of seeds in a red packaging bag, and a brown leather-bound book titled "The Ranch Encyclopedia."
Most of these tools appeared to be made of iron and looked brand new, likely specially purchased by the former mayor as a gift.
Naoki silently expressed his gratitude in his heart, feeling the pinch of his current financial situation.
He stepped forward and neatly put away the tools before picking up the packet of seeds.
Information about the seeds immediately appeared in his mind.
[Turnip Seeds: A spring crop that usually takes three months to mature, but in this world, it only takes around a month to harvest. It is a crop perfectly suited for novice ranchers, and if a Grass-type Pokemon tends to it, its growth cycle can be shortened even further.]
"Huh?" Naoki was surprised. "It grows that fast?"
He carefully recalled the original host's memories and after a long while, finally dug up the related information from the depths of his memory.
—The world was originally like this, with crops growing quickly and having short cycles.
Because of this, humans here rarely experience food shortages.
"No wonder the Pokemon world gives off a utopian vibe..." Naoki muttered to himself.
With humans not worrying about food and the existence of Pokemon, productivity was greatly enhanced, allowing young people the freedom to travel and pursue their dreams.
However, from the original host's memories, Naoki also learned that not all crops grew at this rapid pace.
There were some crops with extremely long growth cycles, taking almost a whole season to mature.
Naoki nodded to himself, then picked up the book, flipping it open to the title page. He found that it recorded methods for cultivating and growing crops.
Each page featured a different crop, with detailed instructions on how to till the land, the best time for planting, fertilizing techniques, and watering schedules, among other things.
After browsing through it a few times, Naoki carefully closed the book and tucked it away, then left the storeroom with Motostoke.
Across from the storeroom was a cave, and Naoki stepped inside to find that it wasn't very spacious.
From the original host's childhood memories, he learned that this cave served two main purposes.
One was to cultivate mushrooms, as the damp and dark environment was ideal for their growth.
The second purpose was to house a colony of Noibat, who would fly out at sunset to forage for various tree berries and regular fruits, bringing them back to the rancher.
These fascinating Pokemon were born gourmets.
They could emit 200,000-hertz ultrasonic waves from their ears to locate ripe fruits to satisfy their hunger, only selecting those that were perfectly ripe.
"Interesting," Naoki thought.
After learning about the cave's purpose, Naoki didn't linger.
He returned to the front of the house with the tools and looked at the farmland overtaken by weeds, planning to take it one step at a time. He decided to start by clearing a small area to plant the turnip seeds.
Seeing his actions, Motostoke eagerly stepped forward to help: "Gaom!"
Its thick tail swung, and with each heavy thud, the rocks split into pieces as if they had been struck with tremendous force.
Naoki: "..."
He looked down at the hammer in his hand and the stones he had laboriously smashed, at a loss for words for a moment.
Motostoke seemed pleased that it could be of assistance.
Seeing its enthusiastic expression, Naoki sighed helplessly and said with relief, "Then let's work together!"
"Gaom!"
————
At the same time, in the central region of the Pasio region, within a basin surrounded by tall and steep mountains.
This place was the Pasio Grand Canyon, a mysterious area known as "Zone 0."
Deep beneath this area stood a modern and advanced laboratory.
In the heart of the laboratory, Professor Oren, a Pokemon researcher specializing in the legends of the Pasio region, and her husband, Fort, gazed excitedly at the tall, enigmatic, and futuristic machine before them.
"The time machine has finally been successfully developed!"
Exclaimed Professor Oren, wearing a white lab coat and an ancient-looking necklace made of beast fangs.
With Fort specializing in ancient studies and his wife in future research, they had finally developed this device, utilizing the unique properties of the deep basin.
It could transmit Poke Balls, capture Pokemon from different timelines, and bring them to the present.
"Let's try it now! I want to witness with my own eyes the Pokemon from different eras!" Professor Oren said eagerly.
Professor Fort nodded, his expression softening as a thought occurred to him. He suddenly asked, "Isn't Paipa's eighth birthday coming up soon?"
"Indeed," Oren replied with a nod. "This will be a great opportunity to bring some Pokemon from those eras to keep Paipa company."
"Then let's begin!" Fort agreed, sharing the same idea.
He took a deep breath, his excitement building. He wondered what expression Paipa would make when he saw these Pokemon.
The boy had always loved Pokemon, and he would surely be delighted to see Pokemon from the future and the past.
There were no parents who didn't love their children. To be honest, they hadn't spent much time with Paipa lately.
This would be a great opportunity to take a break and spend some quality time with their child.
As Fort thought this, he and his wife activated the time machine using their ID codes.
"Buzz!"
Accompanied by a strange buzzing sound, the time machine quietly rumbled to life.
The space around the laboratory also underwent an odd transformation, the walls shimmering like mirrors and pulsating with reddish-violet light.
The two scholars stared at the time machine, their eyes wide with excitement and tension.
Soon, the pulsating light slowed.
Then, a dazzling red light flashed from the center of the time machine.
The two professors held their breath, their hearts pounding with anticipation.
As the light gradually faded, a Pokemon they had never seen before appeared below the time machine.
It was a tall and robust creature, standing upright on its two legs.
Its body was a vibrant crimson, with white markings on its face, abdomen, thighs, and tail. A thin, long antenna-like tendril sprouted from its head, adorned with a cluster of lush blue-violet feathers, giving it a bold and flamboyant appearance.
The Pokemon had a pair of golden irises, and it glared at the two humans before it with a fierce expression.
Success!
Professors Oren and Fort breathed a sigh of relief as they beheld the Pokemon, their efforts finally bearing fruit.
"Let's capture it with a Poke Ball first!" Professor Fort said calmly, his voice steady.
Professor Oren nodded, reaching for a Poke Ball she had prepared in advance and tossing it toward the mysterious Pokemon.
However, as the Pokemon caught sight of the Poke Ball, its golden eyes narrowed into thin slits.
It let out an unintelligible roar, casually swiping its right claw and sending the Poke Ball flying away.
The two professors sensed a hint of hostility from its actions.
Their expressions turned tense, and they were about to release their own Pokemon.
But the mysterious Pokemon from the past suddenly turned its head, as if confirming something in its surroundings.
Soon, it seemed to find what it was looking for.
The next moment, an unreadable emotion flashed in its eyes, and with a powerful thrust of its legs, it ignored the two professors and bolted out of the laboratory.
It moved with incredible speed, and before Oren and Fort could react, it had already rushed outside.
It then looked up, its head feathers spreading out like wings, and soared straight upward.
How many years had it waited?
Golurk had lost count.
Its mind flashed back to the day it had fallen into the time machine, recalling the expression on the man's face—worry, urgency, and panic—and the arm that had reached out to try and stop it.
Back then, it had still been a Motostoke.
On that fateful day, it had fallen into the time machine, traveled back to ancient times, and been transformed by unknown forces into what it was now.
Note: This Golurk is not the same as the two Golurk that appear in the games.
