Chapter 4: Did You Brush Your Teeth?
Chapter 4: Did You Brush Your Teeth?
"Gastly."
Seeing the Gastly and recalling the incredibly realistic nightmare, Jing He slowly came to his senses.
Had he been having nightmares because of this guy? But looking at the Gastly's current state, it seemed like it was the one who had been scared?
Jing He couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
When he first encountered a Gastly in his dream, he was indeed frightened. But after the initial shock, he found it wasn't so hard to accept the existence of Ghost-type Pokemon.
Looking at its wide, terrified eyes, it was hard to imagine that this was the Ghost-type Pokemon that often delighted in scaring others.
The human and Pokemon stared at each other for a full minute.
Throughout the process, it seemed like Jing He was the terrifying Ghost-type Pokemon, and the Gastly was the "victim."
"Swallow."
The sound of Gastly swallowing its saliva broke the eerie silence in the room.
"So, was it you who caused the nightmare?"
Jing He suddenly spoke.
Gastly almost instinctively nodded.
But it quickly realized its mistake and shook its head vigorously like a rattle drum.
Seeing its reaction, Jing He knew the answer.
Perhaps realizing it couldn't fool Jing He, Gastly managed a smile that it thought was very friendly.
"Kya—"
Gastly, being a gas Pokemon, wasn't restricted by doors or windows. They usually inhabit graveyards or abandoned, dilapidated houses. His place, though old, wasn't bad enough to attract a Gastly, right? But as a Pokemon psychology mentor, Gastly's reaction and expression made one thing clear.
Gastly was afraid of him.
Or rather, it was afraid of the Kyurem it had seen in the dream.
Actually, what it was afraid of didn't matter.
What mattered was that it was afraid.
It's well known that the best way to catch a Pokemon is to weaken it and then force it into a Poke Ball. Additionally, establishing a friendly relationship or putting it in a state of paralysis or fear is also an excellent opportunity.
The Gastly was currently in a state of near-panic due to fear and tension.
Jing He slowly got up from the sofa.
Under Gastly's watchful gaze, he calmly folded the blanket and placed it to the side, smoothed out the wrinkles in his clothes, and took a deep breath.
The slow, calm movements made Gastly gradually relax.
Maybe this human wasn't so scary after all?
Suddenly.
Jing He raised his hand quickly.
"Look! Kyurem!"
"Kya!"
Gastly, who had just calmed down, was startled and let out a scream, instinctively turning its head to look.
At the same time, Jing He pulled out a red-and-white Poke Ball from somewhere and threw it at Gastly.
Buzz!
A red light flashed, and Gastly, enveloped in the red light, flew into the Poke Ball.
For a moment, the air in the room seemed to freeze. Jing He stared intently at the Poke Ball that had fallen to the ground, mentally counting the shakes to "three."
Clunk!
The Poke Ball shook three times with a slight movement and made a sound like a lock clicking, then stopped.
"Phew—"
Jing He let out a long breath.
The joy on his face lasted for less than three seconds before it turned to a sense of emptiness.
"So this is what it feels like to catch a Pokemon?"
It wasn't as exhilarating as he had imagined.
He walked forward and picked up the Poke Ball.
This was a choice he had made after a minute of deep thought while staring at Gastly.
There were three reasons.
First, although this Gastly seemed to be afraid of him, it would likely realize soon that he was just a human and had nothing to be afraid of. At that point, whether it would continue to try to put him to sleep or leave was uncertain.
Second, if Gastly attacked again, with his ordinary human strength, his chances of winning against a Pokemon, especially a Ghost-type, were almost zero, especially after ruling out the possibility of having the Super New Trainer constitution.
Finally, the opportunity was too good to pass up.
If it weren't for how eerie Ghost-type Pokemon were in real life, he probably wouldn't have hesitated for that minute.
But then he thought, if Gastly could evolve into a Haunter, it would be quite unique.
"Gastly?" Jing He gently pressed the button in the middle of the Poke Ball, and it opened.
"Kya?"
A black mist slowly condensed from the red light, revealing a bewildered Gastly.
It opened its large, white eyes, bared its sharp teeth, and showed its long, red tongue.
Gastly blinked a couple of times, slowly coming to its senses, and looked at Jing He with an expression that seemed to say, "I thought you were my friend, but you—"
"Kya!!"
A sharp, ear-piercing scream, a mix of anger and ferocity, suddenly echoed.
Buzz!
Without hesitation, Jing He immediately used the Poke Ball again. A red light flashed, and Gastly was sucked back into the ball, its cry abruptly cut off.
After a while,
Jing He released it once more.
“Gast!”
Recalled.
Released.
“Gast!”
Recalled.
Released.
“.”
This process repeated several times.
Gastly: ()
“Gast!”
Its voice was much calmer now, and it even had a hint of friendliness.
‘Let’s talk, shall we? There’s no need to be so hostile.’
Seeing it finally calm down, Jing He let out a sigh of relief.
‘Indeed, the idea that a Pokemon will immediately be close to you after capture is a lie.’
He was glad he had acted quickly.
Now that they could communicate, things would be much easier.
“Gulp—”
“Gast?”
Gastly looked confused.
What was that sound?
“Ahem.” Jing He put his fist to his mouth and cleared his throat.
He turned his gaze to the side, his expression unchanged, and asked:
“Would you like something to eat?”
“Gast?”
Ten minutes later.
“Gast!”
At the small dining table, two steaming bowls of instant noodles were placed.
But Gastly looked absolutely amazed, as if it had never seen anything like it before.
It stared at the bowl of noodles in front of it, sniffing the enticing aroma and swallowing hard.
“I’ve used up most of the ingredients at home. There are only two bowls of instant noodles left,” Jing He explained.
Dealing with Gastly had been quite draining, especially after that dream.
Gastly nodded blankly, not sure if it had really understood.
It just looked at the bowl of noodles, its misty body wriggling, unsure how to proceed.
“Let’s dig in, then.”
Jing He didn’t say much more, picked up his chopsticks, and took a big bite of noodles, shoving it into his mouth.
Slurp—
The sound finally caught Gastly’s attention again.
It watched Jing He’s actions and seemed to understand.
A tendril of black mist extended from its body, forming a hand-like shape, and it tried to mimic Jing He by picking up the chopsticks and reaching for the bowl.
However, this seemed to be its first time using such utensils, or eating noodles, and several attempts later, it either failed to pick up the noodles or they slipped back into the bowl. This frustrated Gastly, who was eager to eat but couldn’t manage it.
Seeing its comical efforts, Jing He smiled and, after swallowing the noodles in his mouth, said:
“You can try using a fork.”
Only then did Gastly notice that there was a fork next to its bowl of noodles, while Jing He had none.
A warm feeling welled up inside it.
Deciding to switch from chopsticks to the fork,
After a few tries, it successfully got a bite of noodles.
“Gast!”
Gastly’s eyes lit up the first time it tasted the noodles.
Before it could swallow, it reached for another bite.
Seeing its ravenous state, Jing He laughed.
He introduced himself:
“Pleased to meet you, Gastly. My name is Jing He.”
The dining table is the best place to build a friendly relationship.
“Gast, Gast!”
Gastly called out with renewed vigor.
Compared to before, Gastly wasn’t exactly close to Jing He, but it was no longer hostile.
“By the way,” Jing He put down his chopsticks and asked, “Gastly, why did you come here?”
This had been bothering him all night.
“Slurp—”
Gastly slurped down the last bite of noodles but didn’t answer Jing He’s question. Instead, it licked its lips and stared at the bowl, which now only had soup left.
“I’m full.”
He pushed his own half-eaten bowl of noodles toward Gastly.
“Gast?”
Gastly looked at him in surprise.
Weren’t you eating because you were hungry?
But this was the first time it had tasted something so delicious.
And it was the first time it felt something warm and fuzzy inside.
Jing He smiled warmly, “As long as you don’t mind.”
“Gast, Gast!”
Gastly floated in front of Jing He and, before he could react,
Slurp—
Its long, red tongue made intimate contact with his cheek.
Jing He’s expression froze.
After a moment, he wiped the saliva from his face.
“Did you brush your teeth?”
From now on, updates will be scheduled at noon and 6 PM. If everyone finds this acceptable, we’ll stick with it.
