Chapter 399: Snape's Gift
Chapter 399: Snape's Gift
By the afternoon, Kyle finally returned to Hogwarts.
The Night Mare carriage did not return to its original departure point but landed near Hagrid's hut.
"I was just thinking about when you'd be back," Hagrid said, patting the Night Mare's wing. "How does it feel?"
"It's a great alternative to the train for traveling to and from school," Kyle said with a smile.
"The Board of Governors won't approve," Hagrid said regretfully. "Raising Night Mares is an enormous expense, much more costly than the train."
"That's true," Kyle nodded in agreement.
While the Hogwarts Express may not match the speed and comfort of the Night Mare carriage, it is more economical and practical, ready to transport all the students when needed.
The Board of Governors would definitely not consider changing it, and Kyle had only mentioned it casually.
Before returning to the castle, he handed Hagrid a small bottle of dragon blood as a fare for the Night Mare.
Although the bottle was sealed, the Night Mares' keen sense of smell detected the dragon blood, and they immediately became restless.
Hagrid tried to control them, but with little success, and soon found himself surrounded by the three Night Mares.
However, by this time, Kyle had already returned to the castle.
In the Hufflepuff common room, there was only one person frantically catching up on homework.
"Long time no see, Winstia," Kyle greeted.
Hearing the commotion, Winstia looked up in surprise. "Did the train arrive so early today?"
"Oh, no, I didn't take the train," Kyle explained. "Where are Conna and Cedric?"
"Conna is in the library," she replied. "I don't know about Cedric. He left early this morning and might be with some Gryffindors."
"Thanks, I got it."
"You're welcome," Winstia said, lowering her head again.
The price of having fun during the holidays was that she now had homework for five subjects to complete, and she wasn't sure if she could finish it all today.
Kyle looked at her sympathetically and turned to enter the dormitory.
The small room was filled with various gifts, and Kyle selected some that interested him to open.
This year, Professor Dumbledore and Mrs. Weasley had sent the same gift—sweaters.
Mrs. Weasley's gift was a reddish-brown sweater, while Professor Dumbledore's was a light yellow one with brown stripes and a more modern design, indicating that he had put some thought into it.
It seemed like he was genuinely considering opening a shop in Hogsmeade.
As for the other gifts, they were mostly books and candies.
Halfway through opening the presents, Kyle heard a knock on the door.
Conna then entered the room.
"Winstia told me you were back," she said.
"Yes," Kyle replied. "I returned early because I didn't take the train."
"Do you need any help?" Conna asked, looking at the gifts surrounding them.
"Of course, you came at the right time," Kyle said, making room for her.
"Where did you go during the holidays?"
Conna found a spot to sit and asked curiously as she unwrapped the packages, "Cedric said that the letters we sent to you were all delivered to your dormitory, but you weren't there."
"I was at the Nikoleme Manor," Kyle explained. "The owl couldn't find my location."
"Were you in Paris?" Conna asked.
She remembered that Kyle had visited there once during the holidays and stayed for a month.
"Not that far this time. I was in Dewen County."
Kyle said.
...
With Conna's help, the gifts were quickly unwrapped.
Conna picked up the last box, which was unsigned, but she immediately recognized it as Snape's handwriting.
Curious, she opened the box...
Inside was an old, bare quill and a small bottle.
Conna glanced up and, taking advantage of Kyle's inattention, casually tossed the broken quill under the bed.
"Kyle, Professor Snape sent you a potion."
"What?" Kyle looked up in surprise.
It was surprising that Snape would send him a potion.
He had previously thought that Snape would send him a broken quill... which would perfectly match the parchment he received last year.
"Look." Conna handed him the potion bottle.
The bottle was not big, and the potion inside was a beautiful peacock blue color. Under the sunlight, one could see some cloud-like shapes.
"Is it really Felix Felicis?" Kyle asked quietly.
It had to be said that the characteristics matched, but he still couldn't quite believe it.
The correct version is available on 69 Book Bar! 6=9+ Book_Bar is the first to publish this novel.
It shouldn't be. Did Snape drink the potion that Mikel brewed?
"Of course it's real."
Conna said happily, "When I gave Professor Snape a Christmas present, he said he would give you a surprise."
"A Christmas present?" Kyle asked, "What did you give him?"
"A set of potion brewing tools." Conna replied, "And also some very sweet coffee from Mrs. Paddifoo's Tea Room."
Kyle's heart sank.
"So the coffee you bought that time wasn't meant for Professor Dumbledore?"
"No." Conna said matter-of-factly, "Didn't you say before that the Headmaster and Professor Snape recommended a very sweet pudding? I thought he would also like sweet things."
"Does he like it?" Kyle asked.
"He probably does." Conna replied after a moment of thought, "The next day, he came to ask me where I bought it."
"You told him?"
"Yes." Conna said, "I told him it was the coffee we had at Mrs. Paddifoo's Tea Room in Hogsmeade."
...
Kyle took a deep breath and quietly put away the bottle of "Felix Felicis."
There was no need to think further; this thing was definitely fake, and he was definitely not going to drink it.
Kyle still wanted to live to see his graduation.
And recently, he needed to avoid Snape, and he'd better prepare more Bile Powder for counteracting the potion.
This item was available in Hogsmeade and not expensive, so Kyle planned to stock up on a hundred pieces.
It's always better to be prepared.
Not long after the gifts were unwrapped, the sky darkened.
The other students returned as well, filled with holiday excitement, chatting and laughing as they entered the Common Room.
The start-of-term feast was as sumptuous as always.
Dumbledore, wearing a purple robe, walked briskly into the Great Hall.
"Kyle, did you notice that the Headmaster seems very happy?" Cedric asked quietly, holding a piece of roasted potato.
Not only him, almost everyone could tell that the Headmaster looked happier than usual.
"He probably received some good news."
Kyle looked up.
Dumbledore seemed to be saying something playful to Professor McGonagall, making her laugh non-stop.
