Chapter 399: Layover
Chapter 399: Layover
"This is the taste of power!"
One had to admit, the power of authority was indeed effective.
For ordinary travelers, using a teleportation array typically required around five days.
But with Alina's instructions, Lindsey's waiting time was shortened to just two days.
That very night, Lindsey made his way to the Teleportation Square amidst the commercial district's lights.
He was granted access to the square, and beside him were two men with discontented expressions, still grumbling about their experience earlier that day.
"Why the rush this time?"
"Who knows, but we came early anyway. Since we can use the teleportation array, why worry about anything else?"
"But I haven't even bought my provisions for the trip!"
"..."
Was this a problem caused by the early departure?
Lindsey knew that the issue was due to his own circumstances.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, he rummaged through his bag and took out ten meat biscuits, offering them to the men:
"If you don't mind, I have plenty of food here."
Lindsey's sudden kindness left the two travelers baffled.
They naturally didn't accept the offer but instead asked suspiciously:
"Sir, are you also heading to White City?"
With the teleportation array activated, the locked-on destination could only be one location, making this a test.
Lindsey nodded and then shook his head:
"I plan to go to the world of the Seven Seas Alliance; White City is just a layover."
The travelers then took the meat biscuits from Lindsey:
"Thank you, we're going to White City for the Forest Summit, but we're not on the same route."
"..."
Lindsey chatted casually with the two travelers.
Just then, a staff member from the nearby teleportation station ran over and handed Lindsey a package:
"Sir, here are your verification documents."
Lindsey took the documents:
"Is there anything else I need to do?"
The staff member pointed to the teleportation square beneath them:
"You just need to stand here."
As the staff member left, Lindsey opened the document package and skimmed through it.
He had assumed that such proof would be a special item imbued with Source Essence power.
However, it was merely a paper document with a small booklet inside, specifically for recording teleportation array experiences.
"This costs 20 gold coins..."
"How can ordinary people afford such a price for immigration to the border worlds?"
Lindsey muttered, and the traveler beside him explained:
"Ordinary people's border immigration is organized, unlike our solo travel, and the fees are vastly different."
Just then, a unique Source Essence fluctuation emanated from the edge of the square, seemingly possessing both flexible and steady qualities, which were completely opposite.
Lindsey turned his head to look.
Schur, who he had met during the day, stepped out of the office building and stood at the edge of the square, infusing his Source Essence into the ground.
As the array engraved on the ground lit up, the light and shadows in the entire square began to distort. Lindsey turned his head, and even the nearby travelers appeared blurry.
"Spatial distortion?"
Lindsey didn't have time for further observation.
Within just a few seconds, everything became clear again.
The chaotic light and shadows reorganized, transforming into a neat and orderly normal field of vision.
"Is this White City?"
Lindsey looked around.
Unlike Horizon City's Teleportation Square, White City's teleportation array was set up in a grand indoor hall with rectangular skylights at the top, emitting beams of light. The architecture and interior decor featured sharp, angular lines, and the color scheme was predominantly white, creating a solemn atmosphere.
Four guards in blue armor stood watch in the hall.
The entire teleportation area was similar to Horizon City, except for the Awakened who presided over the teleportation array.
A woman's voice echoed through the hall:
"Everyone, please evacuate in an orderly manner and exit through the passage to the north."
Linsai followed the crowd out of the teleportation hall.
Next was a reception hall with a well-organized administrative style.
On the left were people lining up to enter the teleportation array, and on the right were those who had just arrived, heading to the reception desk for registration.
Linsai was processed by a maiden with a strict and meticulous demeanor.
She took the written file from Linsai and carefully reviewed it:
"Mr. Linsai, you've teleported here from the Forest Courtyard World's Horizon City, and this is your first recorded teleportation registration."
"May I ask, what business do you have in White City?"
Linsai replied honestly:
"I plan to go to the Seven Seas Alliance, and I'm only in White City as a stopover."
"Alright." The reviewing maiden processed the documents and informed Linsai, "To the left of the hall's exit, there's a temporary inn operated by White City, charging 5 silver coins per day, including meals and accommodation."
"We will deliver your teleportation arrangements to your room between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. We hope you can receive it on time."
Linsai nodded, "No problem, I'll keep an eye on the time."
The maiden continued, "The teleportation array in White City connects to the Seven Seas Alliance on Catal Island. You'll need to pay a one-time usage fee of 4 White City gold coins."
"Can you deliver the documents and payment tomorrow afternoon? Is that okay?"
White City gold coins?
Linsai had left in a hurry and hadn't exchanged any other currencies yet. He asked, "How much is that in rough gold coins or merchant gold coins?"
The two types of gold coins mentioned by Linsai were commonly used.
The reviewing maiden didn't need to check the currency conversion table; she calculated in her mind:
"For merchant gold coins, you'll need to pay 3 gold coins and 4 silver coins, plus a 1-silver-coin handling fee."
"For regular rough-made gold coins, you'll pay 5 coins, and the handling fee is also 1 silver coin."
Wow!
The price was much cheaper than what merchants usually charged! The maiden's review was almost complete, and Linsai nodded, turning to leave:
"I think I'm all set."
The maiden added one last instruction:
"Mr. Linsai, there's also a currency exchange institution operated by White City near the inn, or you can go to the commercial area to find the Merchant Guild for the exchange."
"You're registered as an Awakened, so please be mindful of your actions within the city!"
"..."
Leaving the teleportation hall, Linsai walked along a mountain path. The city was built on a mountain, and the teleportation hall was located at the edge of a cliff, with only one safe exit.
As he walked the streets, there were hardly any street vendors, and the roads were spotlessly clean.
"This place is so different from the Forest Courtyard," Linsai thought.
In White City, people's behavior was as orderly as the sharp, white buildings that surrounded them.
He then checked into the White City-operated inn. Outside, a bulletin board displayed recent announcements, including separate instructions for Awakened individuals and regular citizens.
Linsai followed the rules meticulously and encountered no issues.
By the afternoon of the third day, it was his turn to use the teleportation array.
As his vision distorted and then cleared, he felt the soft sand beneath his feet. A salty sea breeze brushed his face, and the bright sunlight made him squint momentarily.
Linsai blinked:
"This place... is the Seven Seas Alliance?"
