Chapter 399: Key Customer (First Update)
Chapter 399: Key Customer (First Update)
After touring the first and second floors, Jerry finally arrived at the third floor, which was the primary destination for his visit to the Multiverse Trade Market.
This floor housed the largest and most professional appraisal and acquisition shop in the entire Multiverse Trade Market.
With so many planets in the universe, the variety of specialty resources is countless. Determining their value is no easy task.
According to the introduction from the Heart of Sandal, this shop on the third floor of the Multiverse Trade Market is the most famous and has the highest acquisition volume among all the appraisal and acquisition shops on Sandal Planet.
As various Aliens entered the shop with their goods, Jerry inconspicuously followed them inside.
However, the moment he stepped into the shop, a high-tech camera at the entrance scanned him and recorded his appearance.
At the same time, inside the manager's office.
Magus, a red-skinned man, was shaking his head and sighing as he looked at the shop's monthly earnings. Suddenly, the smart system in the office alerted him:
"Key customer detected entering the shop!"
Almost immediately, Jerry's virtual full-body image appeared in the air in the office.
"Asgardian!"
Magus's eyes lit up as he looked at the information about Jerry in the image. He quickly got up and hurried out of the office.
The personal information of every resident and visitor on Sandal Planet is strictly confidential, accessible only to government law enforcement. Therefore, Magus had no right to view Jerry's personal information.
However, to boost business, he had hired workers to patrol the spaceport 24/7. Whenever a potential key customer appeared, they would record and transmit the information to the shop.
Jerry's distinctive Asgardian ship naturally fell within the scope of what needed to be recorded.
So, when Jerry entered the shop, the entrance scanner immediately detected a key customer and alerted the manager, Magus.
Thus, the information Magus saw about Jerry indicated that he was from Asgard, not Earth.
As the head of the most powerful shop in the industry, he usually wouldn't need to personally greet a key customer; sending a manager would suffice.
But times were tough. With the shop's earnings plummeting, if he didn't take action soon, he might lose his position as the manager.
In a way, he was quite unfortunate.
The appraisal and acquisition industry on Sandal Planet had long been a red ocean. After so many years, almost all extraterrestrial items had been appraised.
Many items already had records in the Heart of Sandal, and with just a scan from a communication device, their value could be roughly determined.
So, most Aliens could simply sell or exchange their items at the relevant shops without needing to pay for an appraisal and then share the profit with the appraiser.
Worse still, Magus had spent decades climbing from a low-level appraiser to his current position, only to face the threat of being overtaken by the second-ranked shop.
He could imagine that if this happened, he would be dismissed by the higher-ups in no time.
Decades of effort would be for naught.
During this period, his skin had turned noticeably paler from worry.
After Jerry entered the enormous store, he didn't immediately look for an appraiser to start the appraisal. Instead, he wandered around inside.
He had many items in his ring world, but he wasn't sure which ones would fetch a good price here. So, he decided to observe other people's transactions to gain some experience.
Although he couldn't understand what these Aliens were saying, he could still gather some insights from their expressions and the genuine emotions he read from their minds.
After wandering around for a bit, he noticed that the items the Aliens brought for appraisal and sale were incredibly diverse. Some looked like plants, others like the bones of some creature, and still others like special minerals. There were also all sorts of unique advanced tech items.
Among these, the peculiar tech products and energy products seemed to be more popular with the appraisers.
He thought that perhaps this was because Sandal Planet was a highly developed technological civilization, so items from other planets with advanced technology were more intriguing.
Moreover, the value of these items wasn't just in the products themselves; the new technologies they contained might be the real focus.
Just like on Earth, a super-modern tech product would be far more valuable than gold, silver, or exotic flowers.
In a magical civilization, it would be a different story. Even the most technologically advanced product would be worthless in Diagon Alley, but some special herbs could fetch a high price.
With this in mind, Jerry had a general idea of what to do.
"I need to have some items appraised!"
Jerry approached a young blue-skinned female appraiser who was closest to him.
The blue-skinned female appraiser, after hearing Jerry clearly through the translator in her ear, gave him a surprised look when she saw that he had nothing in his hands. She then replied very politely:
"Welcome, sir. Please show me your items!"
Although the female appraiser was young and new to the job, she didn't treat clients who seemed to have nothing valuable to appraise or who wouldn't bring in much commission with disdain, unlike some of her colleagues.
Her family wasn't well-off, and she had entered the profession early to earn more money so her younger siblings could attend good schools. She always believed that the poor shouldn't look down on other poor people. Therefore, she treated every client and every small job with the same care and attention.
"Sure, just a moment!"
As Jerry was about to take out items from his ring world, a steady voice came from behind the female appraiser:
"I'll take this job personally, and your commission will still be credited to you."
"Manager!"
The blue-skinned female appraiser looked surprised when she saw the red-skinned Magus behind her. She then nodded obediently and stepped aside.
"Esteemed guest, I will now serve you. Please present the items you wish to have appraised."
Magus stood in the female appraiser's place and said with a warm smile.
He had just entered the hall and saw that the key client was about to have items appraised by a junior appraiser. Fearing that the junior appraiser might not be competent enough, he immediately stepped in to take over.
What Magus didn't know was that Jerry didn't have a translator or any communication device and couldn't understand the signs labeling the appraisers as "junior", "intermediate", "senior", or "top-tier" and the different appraisal fees listed on them. He had just picked one at random.
