Chapter 399: Giratina and the Sky Bouquet of Ice, Blessings of the Sea
Chapter 399: Giratina and the Sky Bouquet of Ice, Blessings of the Sea
Naoki was slightly taken aback when he heard Eevee's words.
He hadn't expected Eevee to have such thoughts.
But then again, in a way, there wasn't much difference between Pokemon and human children.
Like children growing up together in the same family, each child wishes to be unique.
And each Eevee longs to be distinct as well.
Hence, they didn't want to evolve into Eevees that were identical to the rest.
Not just this Eevee who wanted to become a partner Eevee, but perhaps the other Eevees harbored similar thoughts as well.
Naoki's gaze swept across the group of Eevees in front of him, and the Eevees looked back at him intently.
"Alright," Naoki exhaled softly and said with a smile, "then from now on, I'll help nurture you towards your desired evolutions. But before that, you'll each need to wear this stone."
He took out the Everstones he had prepared beforehand and placed them on the remaining Eevees who hadn't evolved yet.
The Eevees tilted their heads, looking at the stones around their necks with confusion, "Eevee?"
Naoki explained, "These are Everstones. They will prevent you from evolving suddenly due to certain environmental factors."
After all, Eevee's genes were highly unstable, and there were several places on the ranch that could trigger their evolution.
For example, the World Tree with its abundant Grass Energy, or being near the partner Garchomp, the ice cave of Glaceon, and so on.
Within that cave lay the Ice Stone, Glaceon's treasure. If the young Eevees were to come into contact with it, the ranch might soon have a second Glaceon.
Thus, the Everstones were necessary for the Eevees.
As for the timing of their evolutions... Naoki felt that it would be too early for the Pokemon to evolve just a few days after hatching.
So, he planned to wait until they were one or two years old before letting them evolve.
However, before that, he needed to make adequate preparations.
Leafeon's evolution was straightforward, but Espeon and Sylveon were more unique.
"I'll need to find time to teach the Eevees how to use Round," Naoki thought.
Round, a Fairy-type move, was also one of the prerequisites for evolving into a Sylveon.
With the Eevees' matters settled, Naoki picked up a bag and stepped out.
He found the three Diglett, summoned Regigigas, and together, they made their way to the lake on the ranch.
Passing through the passage prepared by Giratina, the trio entered the Reverse World.
Within the chaotic and disorderly Reverse World stood a towering, lush tree—the World Tree.
It had been over twenty days since Regigigas last nurtured the World Tree. Calculating carefully, tomorrow would be the day to nurture it again.
With that thought, Naoki's gaze swept over the World Tree.
The next second, information about it appeared in his mind.
[World Tree (Mature Phase)
: A seedling that has absorbed a vast amount of Grass Energy. Due to the influence of the partner Garchomp, it underwent a mutation during its growth, brewing with immense vitality. It is said that it can support a world and nurture all things with its natural energy. It will take another 64,054 years to reach maturity.]
"The growth progress is already over halfway there!" Naoki took a deep breath. Over the past few months, Regigigas had been tending to the World Tree regularly every month.
Currently, Regigigas could shorten the World Tree's growth period by about four millennia each month.
At this rate...
"64,054 divided by 4,000... it will take approximately 16 more months." Naoki made a simple calculation in his mind.
Today was August 22, 199 AL. In sixteen months, it would be December of 200 AL, a little over a year from now.
This speed was already very fast. After all, if they were going by the original pace, he might never live to see the day the World Tree reached maturity.
The day to nurture the World Tree was tomorrow, but Naoki had come to the Reverse World today for another reason.
As the weather outside wasn't suitable for planting Grassy Tears flowers, Naoki decided to try planting a batch of them in the Reverse World first.
Without disturbing Giratina, who was asleep in the flower bed, Naoki led the three Diglett and Regigigas to an untouched island.
They divided the tasks among themselves—Diglett tilled the soil, Naoki scattered the flower seeds, and finally, Regigigas hastened the growth of the Grassy Tears flowers.
Soon, a beautiful pink flower field appeared before their eyes.
The three Diglett gazed at the sight with sparkling eyes, whispering, "So beautiful..."
Even Regigigas was moved by the sight, "I, too, am witnessing such a beautiful flower for the first time."
At that moment, Giratina was drawn over by the commotion. It gazed at the island now covered in pink blossoms and asked in a deep voice, "What are these flowers?"
"Grassy Tears," Naoki replied.
As he looked at Giratina, he suddenly recalled a Pokemon movie.
The movie was titled "Giratina and the Sky Warrior."
In the film, a Shaymin accidentally stumbles into the Reverse World and has a fateful encounter with Giratina, leading to a thrilling clash.
Giratina felt its fur standing on end under Naoki's enigmatic smile. It narrowed its eyes and demanded, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Naoki snapped out of his reverie and shook his head with a smile. "It's nothing. I just remembered something."
"What is it?" Giratina probed.
Naoki chose to be cryptic. "Just make sure to guard this field of flowers well. You'll understand later."
He wondered what expression that Shaymin would make when it saw this altered Reverse World of his.
Naoki bade farewell and left with Leafeon and the three Diglett.
Giratina was left alone, staring at the sea of pink blossoms before it in confusion.
It flapped its wings, stirring up a gentle breeze.
Instantly, countless petals took flight, dancing in the air in a dazzling display.
Giratina watched, transfixed, before flying closer to sniff the flowers. To its surprise, the scent was rather pleasant.
And so, Giratina plopped down in the middle of the field and promptly fell into a deep slumber.
In the evening, Naoki was inventorying the casks of fruit wine in the Pokemon Tavern when he heard the sound of a police siren outside.
Stepping out, he spotted Officer Jenny driving by the ranch with her Growlithe companion.
"Where are they off to?" Naoki wondered aloud.
Officer Jenny pulled over, and the Growlithe jumped down from the passenger seat.
The police officer stepped out as well and explained to Naoki, "I'll leave my car here for a bit. I'm heading to the mountains with Growlithe for a patrol."
With autumn arriving, the Jublilife Police Department was stepping up patrols in the mountains to prevent a repeat of last year's devastating wildfire.
"Feel free to park it here. I'll keep an eye on it!" Naoki crouched down to pet Growlithe's head as he asked, "Hasn't the town hired a forest ranger?"
"They did," Officer Jenny replied with a hint of frustration. "But there's only one ranger, and the mountains are vast. He might not be able to manage it all, so we're helping out with patrols when we can. The fire department has sent people too."
Naoki nodded understandingly, realizing they were concerned about the fire risk.
"Take care out there!"
Officer Jenny offered a faint smile. "It's our job. Alright, we should be off now!"
Naoki nodded and watched as Growlithe followed Officer Jenny toward the mountains.
The lives of police officers and firefighters in this world seemed just as challenging!
Shaking his head, Naoki turned back to the Pokemon Tavern, refilled the empty casks with fruit wine, and brought over some tree fruit and sandwiches.
With these preparations, the tavern would be ready for business once the customers arrived.
After finishing up, Naoki returned home.
The time was 4:30 in the afternoon, and as far as he knew, Officer Jenny wouldn't be back until 9:00 PM at the earliest.
However, he mused that the students of Pasio Academy should be on summer break around this time of year.
But then again, this world was different from his previous life. Those students probably wouldn't be resting at home during their vacation. Instead, they'd likely be off traveling to various cities, challenging Gyms, and going on adventures.
After all, the Gym Leaders of the Pasio region didn't get any holidays until November.
Only during the Pasio region's League Conference would these Gym Leaders get to take a break, enjoying a well-deserved vacation of a couple of months.
Naoki shook his head. While Professor Yew had been kind to him, he knew he could never accept her offer to become a Gym Leader.
The life of a free man was just too enticing!
With that thought, Naoki pulled out a cookbook titled "300 Recipes" from his bag and began studying it intently.
He had bought it in town that morning with the goal of learning new dishes to cook for his Pokemon, creating more delicious meals, and developing useful recipes.
After all, his repertoire of dishes was rather limited with just his own creativity. He felt he was serving the same things over and over, and even if the Pokemon didn't mind, he certainly did!
"Red wine-braised Padia tomatoes? Vodka-steamed Carlos Eggplant? Padian Crab Meat and Ham Shaomai... Padian Seafood Paella..."
Looking at the pictures of the delicacies above, Naoki found them quite appetizing.
He had all the ingredients needed for the Mushroom Juice, Spicy Meat Soup, Red Wine-braised Tomatoes, and Vodka-steamed Eggplant at home.
However, he lacked the ingredients for the Crab Meat and Ham Shaomai, as this dish required using raw ham slices instead of shaomai wrappers to enclose the filling, which seemed rather extravagant.
"Never mind, I'll try making the first few dishes for now."
Naoki stood up, took out the necessary ingredients from the refrigerator, and started preparing the meals.
Time passed by, and as the sky outside gradually darkened, the Pokemon who had been playing outside all day returned home, just as Naoki finished preparing dinner.
[Mushroom Juice (C)
: A soup made by blending mushrooms into a juice, this is a specialty beverage from a certain village, and it's a very appetizing soup.
Dish Effect: Mushroom Hunter, if a Pokemon with the Pickup ability consumes this, they will become better at finding mushrooms and will often pick them up for their trainer.]
Naoki: "..." What is this?
It only affects Pokemon with the Pickup ability, and the only Pokemon on the ranch with that ability is Teddiursa.
However, Teddiursa was still traveling and hadn't returned for a long time.
Nevertheless, this dish gave Naoki a new idea.
Perhaps he could raise a group of Pokemon with the Pickup ability and then send them out to collect mushrooms and items, just like the Felyne expedition teams in Monster Hunter.
Hunters hire Felynes to form expedition teams that gather herbs and mushrooms for them.
It seemed quite similar to the Pickup ability of Pokemon.
Naoki continued to look at the next dish.
[Spicy Meat Soup (C+)
: A hearty soup made with meat, chicken broth, and soy sauce, slowly simmered over low heat to bring out the spicy kick of ginger. Drinking it unleashes boundless endurance.
Dish Effect: Dash lv1, reduces stamina consumption during running battles for a certain period after consumption by humans and Pokemon. Duration: 15 minutes.]
Reduced stamina consumption? Naoki raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the effect of this Spicy Meat Soup. It seemed quite useful.
The next dish was Red Wine-braised Padia Tomatoes, which had the effect of stimulating one's appetite. As the name suggested, humans and Pokemon who didn't feel like eating could consume this dish and would soon find themselves hungry.
The small tomatoes were quickly cooked in white wine, resulting in a sweet and sour flavor. The sourness of the tomatoes blended with the fragrant white wine, creating a truly mouthwatering dish.
Naoki decided that he would make this for any Pokemon that lost their appetite in the future.
The next dish was Vodka-steamed Eggplant, which had the effect of warming the body, similar to the effect of hot noodle soup.
Lastly, he moved on to the Padian Seafood Paella.
A delicacy made with head-on shrimp and mussels paired with rice, the aroma alone was tantalizing.
[Padian Seafood Paella (B)
: A specialty dish of Padia, made with head-on shrimp and mussels, resulting in rice that has fully absorbed the essence of the seafood broth. It is a dish overflowing with the blessings of the sea.
Dish Effect: Blessings of the Sea, significantly increases the probability of rare fish bites when humans go fishing; when consumed by Pokemon, they will receive the blessings of the sea, greatly enhancing the effects of sea training. Duration: 3 hours.
Evaluation: Padian Seafood Paella, a specialty dish filled with the blessings of the sea!]
Bingo!
Naoki's eyes lit up as he read the effect. Finally, a new dish that could benefit the Pokemon! And it was a versatile dish that worked for both humans and Pokemon.
For humans, it increased the chances of catching rare fish, which was a godsend for fishing enthusiasts.
In the world of Pokemon, rare fish didn't just refer to ordinary fish but could also mean rare Pokemon.
Common fish Pokemon included Magikarp, Feebas, Goldeen, and Basculin.
As for rarer fish Pokemon, there were Finneon, Carvanha, and Ancient Shark, and who knew, maybe even powerful Pokemon like Gyarados, Milotic, or Kyogre could be hooked!
If one was daring enough, they might even reel in a Groudon.
After all, in the anime, Lizabeth had once fished out a small Groudon with her rod.
When consumed by Pokemon, this dish enhanced the effects of sea training.
This might not be of much use to land-dwelling Pokemon.
But for the Haxorus who wanted to evolve into Salamence, it made all the difference.
