Chapter 399: Are They Asking Us to Spread the Word?
Chapter 399: Are They Asking Us to Spread the Word?
"Alright, that's it. I'm heading back. Do whatever you want", Kuro said, waving his hand dismissively. Suddenly remembering something, he turned back with a fierce glare at the Four Kingdom Kings. "Remember what I just said—he's just an ordinary pirate!"
The Four Kingdom Kings nodded rapidly like pecking chicks.
"Outta here, outta here. What a pain in the ass. This crap's gonna kill me."
Kuro lit a cigar and turned to leave, but paused when he noticed Kas staring at him with unusual seriousness. The hotheaded, tearful giant stood there, his beard soaked with tears, pointing at the Clone Soldiers. "Kuro Commodore, can I take them back with me?!"
Oh right, I forgot about them.
Kuro sighed, eyeing the rows of stiff, expressionless Clone Soldiers whose eyes still burned with eerie intensity. "Klah, send a message to nearby bases. Get a few Warships over here."
He exhaled smoke, resigned. What else could he do? Leaving them here would mean abandoning their convictions. The Vinsmoke Family doesn't keep traitors, and the Four Kingdom Kings clearly feared these soldiers. If they refused them, these men were doomed.
"You handle it yourself!" Kuro snapped at Kas, glaring. "They're your troops. Sort them out one by one when you get back!"
"Aye aye, Kuro Commodore!" Kas Deng Shi saluted, tears streaming. "I knew it! Kuro Commodore would accept them! After all, they've already found their hearts—they're true humans now! Comrades, this is our revered Kuro Commodore—how magnificent he is!"
"Kuro Commodore, magnificent!!!" The Clone Soldiers roared in unison.
"Stop, stop, stop! You'll rupture my eardrums!" Kuro waved them off, casting a disgusted glance at Kas as he strode toward the port.
"Hey, Kuro! What was that move you used earlier? I couldn't even see it!" Lida asked, trailing behind curiously.
"You know I'm developing Momentum Blade", Kuro explained. "Azure Dragon Slash used water currents, White Tiger Kill used wind. This Mystic Art's strength is area-wide destruction. Add the speed techniques I just learned, and it's no wonder you couldn't track me. By the way, did you master Lucius's speed style?"
Lida nodded. "I understand it, but I can't do it."
That speed required a physical constitution she hadn't developed yet. "No problem. Take your time. Don't rush", Kuro said, ruffling her hair.
"Ugh, don't mess up my hairstyle!" she grimaced, though she didn't stop him. "You're filthy—covered in blood!"
"I wiped it off already!" Kuro protested.
"Bororo..." He rubbed his face, then his Transponder Snail wristwatch suddenly buzzed.
He answered with a click. "Hello?"
"Oho~ Kuro!" The Transponder Snail's mouth twisted into a lewd grin. "You answered immediately! Finished your mission?"
"Yep. I'll send a written report later. I'm heading back to West Blue. Don't feel like visiting Headquarters. Oh, and mail me more cigars." Kuro replied.
"Not so fast! Since you're back, report in person. Headquarters is conscripting you—come to Vegapunk Hazard immediately."
"Huh?!" Kuro blinked. "Headquarters' orders? That formal?"
"Very formal. The old man's waiting. Hurry up—you're combat power needed for security. And keep this quiet. The fewer people who know, the better", Lucius Kro's voice drawled through the device.
"Fine. Got it. Later, Gramps." Kuro hung up, sighed, and turned to Klah. "Send another message—request a Vegapunk Hazard Log Pose."
"Aye, Kuro, sir." Klah signaled a Navy officer, who hurried off with a Transponder Snail.
"What's going on?" Lida asked.
"Tch. Two monsters on Grand Line are dueling for Fleet Admiral. Sengoku kept things balanced when he was around, but now Admirals Akainu and Kuzan can't coexist. One wants 'Absolute Justice,' the other 'Mercy.' Only the victor decides what's 'Justice' now."
"You mean Akainu Admiral and Kuzan Admiral?!" Lida gasped. "Is Headquarters really that tense?"
"Lazybones! You never pay attention! You think I've been hiding in West Blue for fun?!" Kuro scowled.
Isn't that exactly what you did? Lida rolled her eyes secretly.
"Headquarters was a pressure cooker! Better to lay low somewhere peaceful", Kuro insisted.
No, you just wanted safety and comfort. Lida glared.
"So now what? Are we going?"
"Headquarters issued a summons. Gotta show face. If word leaks, this could spiral. They're keeping it secret for now—only a few know." Kuro glanced at Kas. Take him or leave him?
That idiot with 3,000 elite soldiers might charge headlong into a pirate crew. Kuro shuddered—those Clone Soldiers could fight anyone head-on.
Soon, Navy Warships arrived. The Clone Soldiers boarded with Kuro's fleet. Watching the ships depart, the Four Kingdom Kings exchanged glances.
"Was he asking us to spread the word?" one finally asked.
"Probably. After all, this is 'Red Baron' Lucius—a legendary pirate we've all heard of. Even without a bounty poster, he's famous. Kuro Commodore threatened us twice—maybe he wants us to publicize this?" another mused.
"Pirates caught by Navy usually get paraded. Maybe he needs our influence to amplify the glory?" a third speculated.
"Exactly! Letting others spread the word beats self-promotion. We're Kings, after all!"
"Definitely! Otherwise why threaten us so dramatically? We'd spread it voluntarily anyway."
"Still, wouldn't stronger threats ensure compliance?"
They pondered, then one suddenly pointed at a camera on a nearby hill. "Ah! That!"
