Chapter 398: You Must Think This Is Funny, Right?
Chapter 398: You Must Think This Is Funny, Right?
"What's going on?" Ron was initially confused, but he soon shuddered violently when Snape’s gloomy voice came from behind him.
"You must think it’s funny and that you won’t face any punishment for slandering a professor, right, Weasley!"
Hearing the voice, Ron swallowed hard, feeling a chill run down his spine. He turned around trembling and saw Snape’s dark face.
"Professor Snape", Ron said with a stiff face, stammering.
He suddenly remembered that Snape had been at the Quidditch pitch the whole time, and his previous words had been said almost directly in front of Snape.
Ivan couldn’t help but mourn Ron’s fate for a second. He even suspected that Snape had some special ability, like automatically appearing behind people who spoke ill of him.
Every time Ron said something bad about him behind his back, he was always caught red-handed.
However, Ivan then recalled that there were exceptions, like when Ron and Harry reported to the headmaster’s office in their first year, and Snape wasn’t there, so he couldn’t have heard them. So, it was probably just bad luck for Ron.
Fortunately, Professor Mcgonagall spoke up in time to ease the situation and prevent Ron from being too embarrassed.
"Severus, is it as Mr. Weasley said?"
Professor Mcgonagall didn’t believe that her longtime colleague, Snape, would be someone who disregarded the lives of students.
But when Ron spoke, even the Slytherin students didn’t defend Snape, instead tacitly accepting Ron’s words, which made her suspicious.
"No, it’s just that the attention-seeking Mr. Hals was faster than I was!" Snape replied casually, his gaze lingering on Ivan for a moment before continuing.
"But I can’t use the Patronus Charm, so if I had to handle it, it would be more troublesome."
"You can’t cast the Patronus Charm? Why? As far as I know, only those with dark intentions have this issue", Professor Mcgonagall looked at Snape with suspicion.
Snape’s response greatly surprised her. In her memory, only those black wizards whose hearts were filled with evil couldn’t use the Patronus Charm.
"Think what you will", Snape said coldly, glancing at the pale-faced Harry in Madam Hooch’s arms.
After confirming that Harry was uninjured, Snape swiftly turned and left, paying no attention to the pointing and whispering of the young wizards.
Professor Mcgonagall pursed her lips, staring at Snape’s retreating back for a long time. She felt that once Dumbledore returned, she should inform him about this.
Not many people understood the conversation between the two professors, but this didn’t stop them from speculating. Almost no one believed that Snape was unable to drive away the Dementors. Most of the Gryffindor young wizards thought that Snape had done it on purpose.
Ron even suspected that Snape had left in such a hurry because he was trying to escape from punishment.
Ivan couldn’t help but shake his head. To hide the form of his Patronus, Snape was truly going to great lengths.
"Harry, you’re finally awake! How do you feel? Are you okay?"
Madam Hooch’s excited voice rang out, drawing everyone’s attention.
"What happened? Why am I here?" Harry, lying in her arms, opened his eyes in confusion, looking around. His mind was a blur, and he asked in bewilderment.
Harry vaguely remembered flying high into the sky, feeling increasingly cold, and hearing someone scream. Then everything went black.
But this feeling was all too familiar. Hadn't he experienced it before?
"It was the Dementors! There were over a hundred of them. They must have attacked you in the air, causing you to fall!" Ron explained.
Dementors again? Harry's heart turned cold. Even in the arms of Madam Hooch, he felt no warmth.
"Come on, we all saw it. The moment the Dementors got close to Potter, he fell right off his broom", Malfoy pushed through the crowd, sneering at Harry lying on the ground.
"Facing so many Dementors, anyone would be affected!" Ivan spoke up, then turned to Malfoy. "I remember you running pretty fast when the Dementors came down, Malfoy!"
Malfoy's face turned red and then white. He wasn't the only one who ran, but he couldn't use that to argue, especially since Ivan, a fellow third-year, not only didn't run but also took care of those troublesome Dementors.
"What about the match? How did it go? Did we lose?" Harry ignored Malfoy's taunts and struggled out of Madam Hooch's arms, anxiously asking.
"Of course not", Ron shook his head, about to say they would definitely have a rematch when a few Hufflepuff young wizards in the crowd shouted in disagreement.
"No, you lost. Diggory caught the Golden Snitch! Many people saw it when Potter fell from the sky!"
Harry and the others looked over. Cedric Diggory, the Hufflepuff Seeker, walked out from the other side, extending his right hand.
A golden ball with wings lay in Cedric Diggory's palm, trying to fly away but held firmly by his fingers.
"You caught it", Harry stared at the scene, feeling dazed. His mind was foggy, but he knew the match was over.
"If it weren't for those Dementors, Harry would have caught the Golden Snitch much earlier! This isn't fair; we need a rematch!" Ron said angrily, feeling indignant on Harry's behalf.
Some of the Gryffindor young wizards also supported Ron's argument, demanding a rematch.
"Unfair? Diggory bravely caught the Golden Snitch amidst the Dementors! This proves not everyone is as weak as Potter, Weasley! We can't have a rematch every time Potter gets blown off his broom by a gust of wind!"
Malfoy spoke with a mocking tone, looking down at Harry.
Ron glared at Malfoy.
Harry opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately couldn't find the words.
Because he felt Malfoy was right. Diggory and he were both Seekers. If Diggory could overcome the Dementors and catch the Golden Snitch, and he couldn't, what right did he have to question Diggory's courage?
