Chapter 398: Naoki's Lesson Begins, Class is in Session for the Eevees!
Chapter 398: Naoki's Lesson Begins, Class is in Session for the Eevees!
However, evolving Eevees required respecting their opinions and choices.
For now, let's put aside the Eevees that had already evolved.
Although Naoki desired to evolve the remaining Eevees into forms that weren't yet present on the ranch, he needed to first understand their thoughts on the matter before taking any action.
Naoki gathered his thoughts and, when the Eevees had tired themselves out from playing, he assembled all of them in the living room.
Then, Naoki brought out the book that recorded the attributes of Eevee and began to introduce to them their potential future evolutions.
Nine Eevees sat in a row on the floor, all curious except for the Ice Eevee and Espeon, who already knew what was to come.
"Ahem." Naoki cleared his throat, capturing the attention of the Eevees.
With a small blackboard that Gholkin had brought out, Naoki cut out the pictures from the book and pasted them onto the board, categorizing them neatly.
"Originally, I didn't plan on telling you this so soon, but three mischievous Eevees accidentally stumbled into my treasure room and came across the Evolution stones I had stored there, evolving prematurely." Naoki explained.
He had intended to wait until they were older, at least a year or two, before allowing them to evolve.
Hearing this, the other Eevees turned their gazes to the Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon in their midst.
"Ee-veee..."
The trio, known as the water, fire, and thunder brothers, wore embarrassed expressions, sticking out their tongues before ultimately resorting to cuddling up to Naoki in an attempt to escape his displeasure.
"Eevee eevee~"
Naoki sighed helplessly and then steered the topic back on course.
"Eevee, that means all of you." Naoki's gaze swept across the Eevees before him. "Each Eevee has the potential for infinite evolution."
"Evolution is the process of becoming stronger and more powerful, just like Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon here."
"And currently, there are a total of eight Eevee evolutions known to humans."
The Eevees listened intently.
Naoki tapped on the pictures on the blackboard. "First, let me introduce to you Flareon."
As he spoke, Naoki pointed to the Flareon in their midst.
"Flareon, as the name suggests, possesses the ability to manipulate flames. It can breathe high-temperature flames to attack and can also use its fire to roast berries."
"Eevee!" Bathed in the attention of the other Eevees, Flareon nodded vigorously, indicating that Naoki was correct.
To prove its point, Flareon inhaled deeply and then exhaled a small flame.
The small fireball struck the carpet, instantly igniting the woolen fabric.
Naoki: "!!!"
"Flareon!" Naoki's breath caught in his throat.
Realizing it had done something wrong, Flareon looked at the burning carpet and whimpered, "Ee-veee..."
Fortunately, Vaporeon quickly came to the rescue, using Water Gun to extinguish the flames.
Looking at the scorched carpet, Naoki gave a stern command to the Pokemon, "From now on, no one is to use their moves inside the house!"
"Ee-vee, ee-vee!" Feeling guilty, Flareon hurriedly nodded in agreement, indicating it would remember.
"Since it's your first time and I hadn't taught you properly before, I'll let it slide this time. But next time, absolutely no repeating this, understand?"
"Eevee!"
Only then did Naoki continue with his lesson. "I believe you all understand Flareon's abilities now. Next, let me introduce Vaporeon."
Unlike the lively and impetuous Flareon, Vaporeon's temperament had become much gentler after evolving, like a soft flowing stream.
Hearing Naoki introduce it, Vaporeon happily wagged its tail.
"When Eevee evolves into Vaporeon, it loses its fur but gains the ability to live in water and freely control its powers. Vaporeon can also use Water Gun to attack opponents and can help water trees or put out fires in our daily life."
The Eevees looked at Vaporeon with curiosity, some seeming more interested than others.
"Next up is Glaceon." Naoki turned his attention to the Ice Eevee.
"Glaceon, the Fresh Snow Pokemon, can use ice powers to attack. In the summer, if you stay by Glaceon's side, you won't have to worry about the heat or getting heatstroke! In short, Glaceon is also a very reliable Eevee evolution."
Glaceon didn't speak but gently nodded, finding Naoki's introduction unique and special.
"The next one is Jolteon. Jolteon is an Eevee that has evolved using a Thunder Stone. It can use powerful electric currents to paralyze its opponents and is incredibly strong."
Naoki looked at Jolteon, and according to the Pokedex, Jolteon's temperament was rather neurotic, making it very challenging for a trainer to develop a close bond with it.
"Now, the fourth one I want to introduce to you is Espeon." Naoki continued, "Espeon, evolved under the light of the moon, is a nocturnal Pokemon that loves to be active when moonlight blankets the land."
"At the same time, its black fur can help it camouflage and hide from opponents in the darkness."
Espeon let out a melodious cry, "Eevee~"
The blue aura around it emitted a faint blue light, looking incredibly mystical.
Naoki smiled faintly and then turned his gaze to the remaining four Eevees who had yet to evolve.
"Next, I want to introduce to you the Eeveelutions that haven't appeared on the ranch yet."
Hearing this, the four Eevees revealed expectant expressions.
"Eevee?" they wondered.
"The first one is Leafeon." Naoki pointed to the picture of Leafeon on the blackboard, "It's a Grass-type Pokemon that can photosynthesize like a flower. Moreover, because of photosynthesis, Leafeon is always surrounded by fresh air and a unique grassy fragrance."
"Eevee Eevee?" One of the little Eevees stood up, curiously asking a question.
Seeing this, Naoki ate a few pieces of the translated melon seeds, only then understanding its question.
This little Eevee was asking: What does grassy fragrance smell like?
Naoki thought about it and asked Gholkin to call over the riding goat, then he had the riding goat release its Grass Field energy.
The next second, the room was engulfed in a green light.
The air was filled with a unique grassy fragrance.
Watching the Eevees wrinkle their black noses and sniff, Naoki said, "It's probably something like this."
"Eevee!" One of the little Eevees liked it very much.
However, another Eevee looked conflicted.
Seeing this, Naoki quickly asked the riding goat to retract its energy.
"Now, next, I want to introduce to you Sylveon. It's the opposite of Espeon, as it can absorb sunlight and convert it into spiritual power. Moreover, Sylveon is very good at predicting the future."
The Eevees gazed at the picture of the Eevee with light purple fur, their eyes lighting up.
"Eevee!" (Wow!)
Its gorgeous fur shimmered with a velvet-like luster, looking incredibly soft. Moreover, Sylveon had a beautiful ruby on its head.
So beautiful!
Naoki smiled faintly and continued, "Next, I want to introduce to you Glaceon."
The Eevees shifted their gaze to the next photo.
The Eevee in the photo had white and pink fur, with a beautiful bow and ribbon on its head.
"This is Glaceon, a Fairy-type Pokemon. Don't be fooled by its gentle and cute appearance, Glaceon is very powerful. Even if it faces a Dragon-type Pokemon several times its size, it will fearlessly fly towards it." Naoki introduced.
He observed the group of Eevees' reactions and then asked, "So, have you decided what you want to evolve into in the future?"
At this point, Naoki suddenly remembered something and added,
"Of course, it's fine if you don't want to evolve. Although unevolved Eevees can't spit fire or shoot water, they can develop in the direction of a partner Eevee."
"Also, Eevee can use a very powerful move called 'Type-Null's Unity Surge'. In short, even if it doesn't evolve, Eevee's potential is limitless."
Type-Null's Unity Surge was a Z-Move from the Alola region. Its effect was to summon the other eight Pokemon that Eevee could evolve into and borrow their strength, combining the power of Eevee's nine forms into one, making it Eevee's ultimate move.
In the games, this move would also boost Eevee's attack, defense, special attack, special defense, and speed by two stages each.
To use this move, however, the trainer would need to wear a Z-Ring and hold the Eevium Z.
The Eevees listened intently to these words.
They looked at the photos on the blackboard, their faces filled with conflict, unable to make a decision for a long time.
Naoki wasn't in a hurry. Although he really wanted to collect every type of Eevee, if an Eevee didn't want to evolve into a particular form, he couldn't force it to...
Naoki chose to respect the Eevees' opinions.
However, before the remaining four little Eevees could make a decision, the already evolved Flareon ran up to Naoki.
"Eevee Eevee! (Naoki, Naoki, I want to evolve into a partner Eevee!)
" Flareon pleaded.
Naoki facepalmed, "You've already evolved! Evolved Eevees can't devolve!"
"Eevee..." Flareon looked dejected.
He consoled the Fire Eevee, "Don't be sad. Flareon is a very powerful Pokemon, too. In the winter, you can help us with fire for warmth. You're a very capable Eevee."
The Fire Eevee was thrilled at this. "Ee-veee?" (Really? Then does Naoki like me?)
Naoki smiled and patted its head. "Of course. When the time comes, I'll even ask you to warm my bed!"
Having a Fire Eevee for winter and an Ice Eevee for summer was the perfect combination.
"Eevee!" Hearing this, the Fire Eevee no longer wished to evolve into any other form. It was happy with who it was.
Meanwhile, the remaining four little Eevees had also made their decisions.
"Eevee!" (I like the scent of grass. I want to evolve into Leafeon!)
"Eevee eevee?" (Can Sylveon really predict the future?)
asked one of the Eevees.
Naoki nodded. "That's what the book says."
Sylveon's Pokedex entry did mention this ability.
According to the entry, Sylveon originally had no special abilities, but it awakened its powers of foresight to protect itself.
Its fur was highly sensitive, allowing it to feel even the slightest changes in airflow and predict the weather or its opponent's next move with astonishing accuracy.
With Naoki's confirmation, the little Eevee happily nodded. "Eevee eevee!" (Then I want to become a Sylveon so I can know when Naoki is coming home!)
Naoki raised an eyebrow, curious. "Why do you want to know when I'm coming home?"
The Eevee answered without thinking. "Ee-veee... Eevee!" (Then I can sneak ice cream from the fridge without getting caught... Oops! I didn't mean to say that out loud!)
The Eevee quickly covered its mouth, realizing its slip-up.
Naoki was speechless. "I only stopped you from eating too much ice cream because I was worried about your stomach. If you eat too much and get a stomachache, it'll be very uncomfortable."
The Eevee drooled at the mention of ice cream. "Eevee!" (But ice cream is so delicious!)
Naoki: "..."
Oh well, if it did end up with a stomachache, he could always ask his sister, Ai, to perform the New Moon Dance, or they could just visit Nurse Joy at the Pokemon Center in town.
"So, what about the two of you?" Naoki directed his attention to the remaining two Eevees.
One of them looked at Gholkin, its eyes filled with determination. "Eevee!" (I want to evolve into an Espeon!)
Naoki asked, intrigued, "Why?"
The Eevee replied with fervor. "Eevee! (Because Espeon can defeat Dragon-type Pokemon!)
Hearing this, Naoki understood.
This little Eevee had been waiting for him to settle this score!
He recalled an incident from a few days ago when he had been putting the Eevees to bed. Gholkin had wanted to join them, but Naoki had refused, thinking there wasn't enough space and worried that the little Eevees might get squished. As a result, Gholkin had gotten jealous, feeling like the Eevees were taking his Naoki away, so he had deliberately pulled one of the Eevees off the bed to make room for himself.
The poor Eevee had been terrified and tried to climb back onto the bed, but Gholkin wouldn't let it. Eventually, the Eevee had burst into tears.
Its cries had woken Naoki up, and it had taken him a while to calm it down.
From that day on, the Eevee had seen Gholkin as a villain.
Naoki glanced at the exasperated Gholkin and chuckled. "That's a tall order, but Gholkin is indeed very strong, and it's no ordinary Dragon-type Pokemon. Defeating it won't be easy."
"Eevee!" (I'll do my best!)
The Eevee remained resolute.
Gholkin: "Agh..."
Naoki then turned to the last Eevee. "What about you? What kind of Eevee do you want to evolve into?"
This Eevee looked left and right, as if it hadn't quite made up its mind yet.
After a long pause, it finally spoke. "Eevee... (I guess that leaves only the partner Eevee...)
"
Naoki asked, "What kind of Eevee do you want to be? If you don't want to be a partner Eevee, you can evolve into another form. I'll nurture you in that direction."
However, the Eevee shook its head. After a moment, as if it had made a firm decision, it said resolutely, "Eevee! (I want to be the strongest partner Eevee!)
"
Naoki was slightly taken aback. "You don't want to evolve into any other form?"
The Eevee shook its head vigorously. "Eevee eevee! (No! I want to be the strongest partner Eevee!)
"
More importantly, it didn't want to evolve into the same form as the other Eevees. It wanted to be unique in Naoki's eyes and in the ranch—a one-of-a-kind Eevee!
So, it intended to stay by Naoki's side as an Eevee forever.
