Chapter 398: Eradication
Chapter 398: Eradication
Upon receiving the news from the Bureau, Lao Wan and Xiao Lu rushed to the Meng Clan Estate, located outside the city. Due to the unique nature of the White Bird District and the need for secrecy, they couldn't wait nearby, but even so, they arrived in less than a quarter of an hour.
However, as they ascended the mountain, they were halted by the security personnel under Meng Xu's command. Despite quickly contacting the estate owner, Meng Lei, and presenting the pre-prepared execution credentials from the Processing Bureau, they were still delayed.
The two men had no time to argue with Meng Xu. As they swiftly reached the estate, intending to enter the underground, a burst of light suddenly erupted from below.
"This is..."
Both men's faces turned solemn, "A rift?"
In the underground space, the moment the light from Meng Huang's skull exploded outwards, Chen Chuan immediately closed his eyes and covered them with his hands.
But he soon realized that the light was only blinding initially, and then it quickly passed by like a swift flow of luminous mist.
When he lowered his hands, he found that the surroundings seemed to have undergone a significant transformation.
The places where the light shone were still visible, but some areas seemed to be swallowed and merged by the light, making everything before him appear incomplete and fragmented.
It was as if he were standing on floating stones, and the walls on both sides were also cracked and dilapidated. Wherever he could see, it seemed to be floating in mid-air.
Yu Sun stood not far from him, speaking rapidly, "Mr. Chen, that thing must have used its remaining power to open the rift."
"A rift?"
Chen Chuan nodded.
Although he hadn't witnessed it before, the situation matched the information provided by the Processing Bureau. Sometimes, when the symbiotic bodies of beings from the other side are destroyed, they may forcefully use the last of their power to tear open a temporary rift to achieve a specific purpose.
The scene he was witnessing was a result of the fusion of two worlds, which, while not truly connecting them, could alter the physical objects of the real world.
At this moment, his eyebrows twitched slightly as he searched for the other party's location. Through mental perception, he sensed their presence and, due to the existence of the rift, could see them more clearly.
It was a being whose full form was hidden, as if it was squeezing itself out of a deep, hollow void. The front end of its protruding part was continuously extending forward.
It seemed that something inside was desperately desired, hence its efforts to enter.
What could it be?
This being no longer had a host body and wouldn't last long. Whatever it was seeking must be something it could take back or something that could prolong its existence.
Regardless, he couldn't let it succeed.
He raised his blade and said, "Since it doesn't want to leave, I'll send it on its way again."
He glanced at the ground swallowed by the light, which was the most contaminated area. Stepping into it would likely result in immersion and exposure to more of the other world.
So, he didn't choose to pass through it. Instead, he leaped, landing on a remnant of the wall, took two steps, then jumped to another fragment floating in the light. After a few more strides, he reached the large door.
Due to the light, he couldn't see the situation in the distance. As he looked up, he noticed countless tiny holes on the circular door, seemingly caused by the connection between the two worlds.
Amidst the myriad of tiny lights, he could see a portion of the massive body, already seeping through like quicksand.
He punched the door, causing it to vibrate incessantly. Although the door appeared to be riddled with holes, it remained thick and sturdy. At that moment, something was thrown from behind, and he caught it, finding it to be a round, disc-shaped turning key.
Yu Sun called from behind, "Mr. Chen, be cautious of the ritual inside."
Chen Chuan thanked her and turned around. It seemed there was a ritual blocking the door, but for him, it was a minor obstacle.
He located the keyhole, placed the turning key in it, and with a gentle twist, a ritual node embedded within snapped, instantly rendering all the ritual patterns around the door useless.
He pushed the door, opening a metal gate just wide enough for a person to walk through. It slid inward on a track, and he quickly stepped inside.
Inside, the signs of dematerialization from the second self intensified. He looked up, facing a plain circular tunnel with no decorations, but the walls and floor were covered in intricate ritual patterns, seemingly carved into the surface and embedded with a material that emitted a faint, glowing light.
It seemed that these rituals and other indescribable elements were what kept the physical world's existence firmly locked, preventing the light from permeating too much.
In his spiritual world, he saw the being's extended part striving to reach forward.
However, what caught his eye was something resembling a mass of brain tissue and blood vessels.
This was likely Meng Huang's last physical remnant, the only part that could attach to a host. Beneath it, a bud-like growth was slowly crawling forward on the ground, perhaps hindered by the rituals, as its movement became slower the deeper it went.
Chen Chuan's gaze moved past it, and at the end of the tunnel, there seemed to be a well-like structure, the being's apparent goal. But he wouldn't let it get any closer.
Chen Chuan took a step forward, brandishing his long sword, and as he walked, the second self on his body wavered under the influence of the ritual, but it did not hinder his stride.
The creature seemed to sense his approach and quickened its writhing, but to no avail, as the ritual's hindrance made its speed seem too slow in comparison.
Step by step, Chen Chuan reached behind the creature and raised the Snow Lady Saber high, aiming the tip of the blade at the creature. With a fierce downward thrust, the creature convulsed and struggled violently.
At that moment, his third eye twitched slightly, and through his mental sensation, he felt the massive creature suddenly become aware of his presence. In that instant, the ritual materials on the surrounding walls seemed to dissipate rapidly like powder blown by a strong wind, and the second self also faded to the point of near invisibility.
Unfazed, Chen Chuan held the blade firmly.
At this moment, he felt the Snow Lady Saber vibrate slightly, and the creature inside seemed eager to come out, sending him a thread of thought.
The creature had already fused with the altered organism within the blade, and those altered organisms could be considered a part of him. Therefore, without his consent, it could not come out.
Chen Chuan thought for a moment and released his restraint on it.
In the next instant, he saw strands of light mist-like substance emerge from the blade and envelop the creature below, seemingly absorbing something desperately.
After a few moments, the creature below stopped struggling, and soon it turned into sand-like debris. At the same time, outside, the parts that had been bathed in the light seemed to have undergone some kind of change, with rustling debris falling from above.
Yu Sun had been waiting outside and saw Chen Chuan's calm stride as he emerged. He didn't look like he had just walked through the ritual patterns, and she couldn't help but feel a little impressed.
Inside, to ensure safety, only Meng Lei himself could pass through without resistance. Every time she walked through, she had to counter the additional ritual influences, which was by no means easy. Perhaps only a fighter like Chen Chuan, with his exceptional physical qualities, could handle it with such ease.
Yu Sun said, "Mr. Chen, we need to get out of here quickly. There might be a risk of collapse."
Chen Chuan nodded and left with Yu Sun. Two people in Processing Bureau uniforms were waiting outside—the support team from the Processing Bureau had arrived.
"Executioner Chen, are you okay?" Lao Wan and Xiao Lu approached.
When they saw the rift, they felt both relieved and worried. The appearance of the rift meant that the entity on the other side had given up its attachment, and the situation was basically resolved.
But at this moment, the infection was often at its most severe. If the essence blood and divine essence were not adequately accumulated, there might be problems.
"I'm fine," Chen Chuan assured them.
Lao Wan and Xiao Lu looked him up and down. Thankfully, there were no apparent issues on the surface. As long as he maintained his sanity, everything could be managed. Even if there were any problems, there were ways to solve them.
Although he already guessed the outcome, Lao Wan still asked cautiously, "Executioner Chen, what about that thing?"
Chen Chuan confidently replied, "It's been taken care of."
The two men relaxed slightly.
Meng Huang had been eliminated, and most importantly, the influence had not spread, keeping the situation under control. At the same time, they felt a mix of shame and admiration because it was almost entirely Chen Chuan's doing, and they hadn't been able to help much beyond running a few steps.
However, due to their responsibilities and procedures, they still needed to confirm the situation.
Lao Wan said solemnly to Yu Sun, "We need to go and check the scene again."
Yu Sun cautiously replied, "I'll take you there."
Chen Chuan asked Yu Sun, "Ms. Yu, where is the safe house?"
Yu Sun saw that the boundary realm had returned to normal and sent him a location. She apologized, "It's here, Mr. Chen. I can't accompany you now, please excuse me."
"It's okay, I can go by myself," Chen Chuan said.
After parting ways with the others, Chen Chuan emerged from the underground passage and looked up at the golden sunlight of the approaching noon. He spread his palm, feeling the warmth, and then clenched his fist.
When facing the entity, the intense stimulation caused his altered organisms to grow continuously.
However, this growth was chaotic and needed to be controlled with essence blood and divine essence to suppress and correct it.
Coming and going from the realm, he couldn't say he had lost out. After all, the drugs to nurture these two were readily available, and if special drugs were lacking in the future, this could serve as a replacement method.
