Chapter 397: The Three Eevee Brothers!
Chapter 397: The Three Eevee Brothers!
With their tiny bellies full, the Eevees snuggled into Naoki's embrace, their eyes slowly drifting shut.
A few of them quickly fell into a deep sleep, their soft pads resting on Naoki's legs.
The others, though tired, didn't fall asleep right away. They leaned against their companions, their eyes half-lidded with sleepiness, occasionally giving a little nod with their tiny heads.
Naoki's heart melted at the sight of these adorable creatures.
He gently scratched the chins of these Eevees and whispered, "Sleep tight."
In reality, the hatching of Pokemon eggs was a little different from what Naoki had experienced in the games. The newly hatched Pokemon were not yet ready for battle, and their sizes resembled that of infants compared to a typical Eevee.
According to the books, these freshly hatched Pokemon needed ample sleep and nutrition to get through the neonatal stage.
However, unlike humans, the neonatal stage for Pokemon was incredibly short, lasting only about a week before they reached their normal size.
Once all the Eevees had dozed off, Naoki lined them up and placed them on a soft blanket.
Then, he proceeded to determine their genders based on the patterns on their tails.
"Male, male, male, female, male, female, female..." Naoki murmured, "Four males and three females. Females are indeed quite rare among Eevees!"
If he recalled correctly, the ratio of male to female Eevees was 7:1, so having three females in this litter was quite fortunate.
Naoki turned to the two adult Eevees by his side and said to them, "From now on, you two will be the leaders of this Eevee pack!"
"Ve~!"
Glaceon and Espeon were taken aback, their eyes widening as they looked at the litter of baby Eevees. They exchanged a hesitant glance, unsure of their new leadership roles.
After all, they had never been leaders before.
"You'll get the hang of it," Naoki assured them. He wanted to say more, but his eyes landed on Kisyu, the younger sister of Kisaragi, and a sudden realization struck him.
Oh no! I called Kisyu over, but who's watching the pot downstairs?!
Naoki hurried downstairs to check, and there he found Haneoka flapping his wings frantically, trying to manage the stove with his wing claws.
Naoki was speechless.
Apparently, Kisyu had left a "wing-illiterate" Pokemon to watch the pot!
He quickly took over the kitchen, checking the pot of chicken soup. Fortunately, it hadn't burned, so he turned the heat down low to let it simmer slowly.
Haneoka breathed a sigh of relief when Naoki took control of the situation.
The little Eevees slept soundly and straight through the evening.
When they woke up, Naoki and the Kisaragi siblings fed them milk once more.
After they had their fill, the Eevees began to curiously explore their new world.
The seven little Eevees sat obediently on the wooden floor, their shiny black eyes looking up at Naoki, the Kisaragi siblings, and the Pokemon gathered around them.
Naoki pointed to himself and introduced, "I'm Naoki."
The Eevees tilted their heads, curious. "Ve~?"
"This is Kisyu, and this is her brother, Kisaragi."
The Eevees turned their attention to the siblings.
"Ay~," Kisyu greeted them with a friendly wave.
Kisaragi maintained his calm demeanor, nodding solemnly. "Ay."
The Eevees blinked and responded with happy chirps, "Ve~!"
The other Pokemon needed no introduction from Naoki.
Babiri, Sirone, and Eggun eagerly introduced themselves to the little Eevees, each wanting to be friends with the newcomers.
However, with so many Pokemon introducing themselves, the Eevees soon became overwhelmed.
Before long, one or two of the little Eevees shook their heads, chirping "Ve ve~" as they tried to escape this overwhelming meet-and-greet session.
Influenced by their adventurous peers, the rest of the Eevees followed suit, scattering across the room in a playful frenzy.
One Eevee scurried under the bed, two hid under the cabinet, and a few others ran out of the room.
The corridor outside the room led to the staircase going downstairs.
Naoki was startled, worried that one of the Eevees might tumble down the stairs. He quickly instructed the Kisaragi siblings to help round up the playful escapees.
As Psychic-type Pokemon, this task was a breeze for the siblings.
Their eyes glowed with a soft blue light as they manipulated their psychic powers, quickly corralling the runaway Eevees back to the safety of the room.
The little Eevees were left bewildered by this display of psychic might.
Naoki placed them back on the blanket, thinking that after sleeping the afternoon away, they probably weren't tired at all. So, he decided to take them downstairs, letting them play on the sofa.
"Have fun here," he said.
"Ve~!" they chirped excitedly.
The next moment, the curious Eevees climbed onto Naoki's shoulders and head, their fluffy tails wagging.
They seemed to have taken a strong liking to this human who cared for them.
Naoki fetched some toys and spent some time playing with them.
Around eight or nine in the evening, the energetic Eevees started to slow down, their playful antics giving way to sleepiness once more.
Naoki himself was feeling a bit tired, so he brought them back to his room and placed them on the bed.
Golurk felt speechless, letting out an incomprehensible, "Ah-ga-sii..."
Naoki couldn't help but laugh. "It's Golurk, our companion. It won't hurt you."
"Ba-mo ba-mo!"
Babiri the Diglett nodded vigorously, echoing Naoki's words and reassuring the Eevees that there was nothing to fear. He promised to protect them if any danger arose!
However, the little Eevees were still scared. When Naoki climbed into bed, they all scurried into the covers, hiding themselves away.
Naoki: "......"
As everyone knows, the bed covers can shield you from all manner of ghosts and monsters.
Apparently, this belief wasn't just limited to human society, even Pokemon seemed to know about it.
Naoki shifted to his side, encircling the Eevees in his embrace within the covers, and said with a smile, "Sleep tight."
The small, warm space under the covers made the Eevees feel secure, and soon enough, they were fast asleep, snoring softly.
Naoki looked on with gentle eyes, his heart melting at the sight.
Pokemon were so adorable when they were young!
So tiny, they smelled wonderful and felt soft and fluffy to the touch.
The Eevees' infantile stage passed quickly, and as the days went by, their bodies grew larger, and their fur changed as well.
During this time, Motostoke's birthday arrived, and Naoki, along with the Pokemon on the ranch, celebrated with a birthday cake that increased its stats.
The day after Motostoke's birthday, the Eevees had fully grown into their normal size and appearance.
For a trainer, this would be the time to start teaching them moves and engaging in battles.
However, Naoki felt that the seven-day-old Eevees were still very young, so he wasn't in a rush to start their evolution training just yet.
Now that they were older, the Eevees didn't sleep as much as they used to.
They became increasingly curious about their surroundings and explored every nook and cranny of the house with boundless energy.
As a result, Naoki could find them anywhere in the house.
Under the sofa, under the bed, inside cabinets, in Moltres' heating ducts, and even behind the television...
Sometimes, when he went to the bathroom, a little Eevee would jump out of the bathtub to startle him.
Naoki: "......"
Things couldn't continue like this. Naoki was determined to keep the young Eevees indoors for now, not wanting to let them roam freely on the ranch just yet.
He was worried that with their adventurous nature, they might run out of the ranch and get lost or encounter some other mishap that would prevent them from returning.
Just like Babiri the Diglett, who had been snatched up by a Stone Bird while sleeping on a rock and carried far away.
However, when Naoki kept the Eevees indoors, they started to explore the house even more thoroughly.
One morning, Naoki had to step out as they were running low on ingredients. He decided to go into town to restock their supplies.
In the living room, the two gentle female Eevees were curled up on the sofa, dozing peacefully.
Two other Eevees were chasing each other playfully around the sofa.
Glaceon and Espeon sat on the floor nearby, watching the mischievous bunch with a mix of amusement and resignation. They shared a glance, wordless communication passing between them.
"Bu yi..." Espeon sighed, an adult exasperated by the antics of the youngsters.
It didn't remember being this naughty when it was young, nor did it enjoy crawling into tight spaces and getting covered in dust.
Meanwhile, the three most energetic and adventurous male Eevees had formed an exploration team and were investigating Naoki's "treasure trove."
This was where Naoki stored various items, including gifts from Pokemon like Mew and Teddiursa, as well as some precious stones.
The three brave Eevees burrowed into the pile of miscellaneous items, their heads disappearing into boxes as they searched through the contents.
Soon enough, one of the Eevees discovered several stones that seemed to call out to it.
"Bu yi!"
The little Eevee's exclamation drew the attention of the other two, who craned their necks to peek into the box.
One of them began to paw at the items in the box, but in its enthusiasm, it lost its balance and tumbled headfirst into the container.
"Bu yi!"
In its panic, the Eevee's paw accidentally brushed against an orange-yellow stone. Before the other two Eevees could react, the one in the box was enveloped in a dazzling light.
The energy from the stone was absorbed into its body.
When the light faded, a Pokemon with fiery red fur and a large, fluffy tail stood before the other two Eevees.
"Bu yi!"
The two onlookers were startled, letting out cries of surprise at the transformation they had just witnessed.
And at that moment, the "Eevee" that had been in the box leaped out, its eyes wide with wonder.
The Fire Eevee looked down at itself in a fluster, its eyes widening at the change.
The other two Eevees looked on in confusion, one of them scurrying over to pat the tuft of cream-colored fur on Fire Eevee's forehead.
At that moment, Fire Eevee received information from its genetic memory, realizing what had happened.
Oh, I see! It had evolved into a Fire Eevee and could now use Fire-type moves!
The newly evolved Fire Eevee was thrilled by its newfound power and let out an excited cry, "Bu-Yi!"
The other two Eevees remained perplexed.
From Fire Eevee's words, they gathered that their companion had evolved due to the stone in the box.
"Bu Yi?" one of them asked uncertainly.
"Bu Yi!" Fire Eevee nodded vigorously, indicating that it felt so much stronger now.
Upon hearing this, the other two Eevees grew restless.
They scurried into the box, each selecting a stone that called out to them.
As soon as they touched their chosen stones, two brilliant lights erupted from their bodies.
The Eevees absorbed the energy from the stones, and their forms rapidly changed.
When the light faded, a yellow-furred Thunder Eevee and a hairless, fin-and-gill-bearing Water Eevee stood beside the Fire Eevee.
Fire Eevee looked at its two companions and then at itself, surprised to see how different they all looked.
"Bu Yi Bu Yi!"
The Eevees were delighted with their transformations.
They scurried out of the room, eager to show off their new forms to Naoki.
So, when Naoki returned from town with bags of supplies, he found the living room missing three Eevees but gained a Fire Eevee, a Thunder Eevee, and a Water Eevee.
Naoki: ?
What's going on?
The Fire, Thunder, and Water Eevees surrounded him excitedly, recounting their adventure with the magical stones.
"Bu Yi Bu Yi! (While exploring, we found amazing stones that made us stronger Eevees!)
" Naoki couldn't understand them, but a nearby Wreath King casually translated their story, transmitting it to him via telepathy.
Naoki couldn't help but facepalm at their antics.
What kind of exploration were they doing in his house?!
"You three rascals!" Naoki sighed, feeling helpless as he poked their heads with his fingers.
However, the three Eevees looked at him with mournful and aggrieved expressions.
"Bu Yi..." (It's because you never let us go out and play, so we had to explore the room...)
Hearing this, Naoki swallowed the words he had been about to say.
He knew he was in the wrong; he had only been worried about them running off the ranch.
Even with Glaceon and Espeon to watch over them, there were just too many Eevees, and it would only take a moment of inattention for a few mischievous ones to escape.
Looking at the group of Eevees before him, Naoki ultimately relented.
He sighed in resignation and said, "Fine, starting today, you can join the others outside in the grass field to play."
"Bu Yi?!"
At his words, the little Eevees' eyes lit up.
Naoki nodded, "But remember, do not go beyond the fence surrounding the ranch. If you wander off and encounter bad people, you may never find your way home."
Hearing this, the Eevees looked a little scared, but their curiosity about the outside world won out.
So, they nodded vigorously, promising, "Bu Yi!"
They would never venture beyond the fence.
Naoki opened the door, and together with Glaceon and Espeon, he watched as the group of Eevees rushed out of the room.
Fire Eevee and Thunder Eevee ran around in the grass, while Water Eevee, driven by instinct, made its way to the lake at the center of the ranch and jumped into the water.
The remaining four Eevees dispersed across the ranch.
Some were attracted to the flowers in the flower field and went to watch the Combees collecting nectar.
Others were drawn to the crops in the fields and ran along the furrows.
Two Eevees lay under a fruit tree, basking in the cool autumn breeze.
"Phew," Naoki sighed, relieved to see them enjoying themselves.
With Fire, Thunder, Water, Ice, and Moon Eevees accounted for, he only needed Leaf Eevee, Sun Eevee, and a Fairy Eevee to complete the set.
Leaf Eevee's evolution was relatively simple; it just needed a Leaf Stone or a grassy area with abundant Grass-type energy, like near Moss Rock.
However, Sun Eevee and Fairy Eevee's evolutions were more complex.
Sun Eevee required a certain level of friendship and had to evolve during the day while basking in sunlight.
As for Fairy Eevee, it needed to learn a Fairy-type move and meet specific friendship conditions before it could evolve.
