Chapter 396: That Day, the Dementors Recalled the Fear of Being Dominated by the Patronus
Chapter 396: That Day, the Dementors Recalled the Fear of Being Dominated by the Patronus
"Does anyone else feel like the sky is getting darker?" Not far away, a young Gryffindor wizard looked up at the sky, puzzled.
Hermione's mind raced, instantly recalling the scene she and Ivan had witnessed in the sky above Hogwarts, which was very similar to what was happening now.
Thinking of this, Hermione felt a chill run down her spine. She already knew what those dark, moving objects in the clouds were.
"They're Dementors! They're in the sky! Harry is in danger, get him back!" Hermione shouted loudly.
"What?" Ron was still utterly confused, but the next moment, he saw Harry's figure trembling in the air before suddenly plummeting from the sky.
Hundreds of young wizards in the Quidditch stadium watched this scene in horror. What made them even more terrified was the sudden appearance of a large number of Dementors descending from the sky, dark and menacing, like a cloud of doom.
Their decayed and rotting bodies caused countless young wizards to scream shrilly.
"They really are Dementors!"
"How dare they come in?!"
"Harry, Harry fell from the sky! Someone, save him quickly!"
For a moment, the Quidditch stadium was in chaos, filled with various shouts and screams.
Ivan stood up immediately, looking at the Dementors floating in the sky, not particularly surprised.
He was well aware that the Dementors entering the school was ultimately due to the Ministry of Magic's negligence. They hadn't considered the Dementors' feeding problem and placed them in a place like Hogwarts, where there was an abundance of "food." It was no wonder something like this happened!
Today, the Dementors suddenly caught the scent of so much happiness on the Quidditch pitch, and they couldn't resist it.
However, Ivan wasn't too worried about the Dementors causing trouble, as this farce would soon be ended by an angry Dumbledore.
Hmm? Dumbledore?
Ivan suddenly realized that Dumbledore wasn't even in the school!
Thinking of this, Ivan's face changed dramatically, and he quickly drew his wand, preparing to cast a Levitation Charm to save Harry.
But before he could act, Harry's fall from the sky had already slowed down.
Ivan looked around and saw Snape, his face dark, standing on the Slytherin stands, wearing a raincoat. Clearly, the Levitation Charm had been cast by him.
A Quidditch match of this scale wouldn't be without a professor to maintain order.
Madam Hooch, as the referee, rushed to Harry the moment she regained her senses, grabbing him and flying toward the ground.
With their target gone, the Dementors were furious, but soon they found new targets—the students in the Quidditch stadium!
Snape frowned, raising his wand with disgust, but hesitated and didn't cast a spell.
This delay allowed the Dementors to get even closer, and panic was spreading.
Several older students shouted loudly, releasing their Patronuses—a buffalo, several moles, and crows, all glowing creatures, rising to block the Dementors' advance.
However, the number of Dementors was far too great, at least a hundred, and the defense formed by these Patronuses was completely ineffective.
Seeing Snape standing there motionless, Ron became furious and shouted loudly.
"Why isn't Snape driving away these damned Dementors? Is he happy to see us being attacked by Dementors?"
"Professor Snape might not be able to perform the Patronus Charm!" Hermione speculated, though she didn't really believe that Snape would dare to do anything underhanded in public.
After all, there were Slytherin students here too. If Snape had the ability to deal with the situation, he wouldn't just stand by and do nothing.
Hermione had read in a book that people whose minds had been corrupted by dark magic were unable to use the Patronus Charm. She thought this might be the reason why Snape couldn't drive away the Dementors.
But why would Professor Dumbledore allow someone whose mind had been corrupted by dark magic to teach them Potions?
Ivan also focused his gaze on Snape, knowing very well that Snape could indeed summon a patronus. This made him even more puzzled about why Snape was hesitating to act.
In his confusion, Ivan noticed the struggle on Snape's face and suddenly realized something. He understood that Snape likely didn't want to reveal his ability to cast the Patronus Charm, nor did he want to expose the form of his patronus!
After all, most Death Eaters couldn't produce a patronus. One of the key reasons Dumbledore had trusted Snape was that Snape had summoned his patronus—a doe, just like the patronus of the woman he deeply loved, Lily.
If the form of his patronus were to be revealed to everyone, it might give some people ideas, potentially affecting his future spy work and increasing the risk of death.
"Ivan, you can drive away these Dementors, right?" Seeing the Dementors about to descend, Ron, in a panic, remembered how Ivan had driven away a large number of Dementors on the train and quickly asked.
The other Gryffindor young wizards looked at Ivan with hope, as if he were their last lifeline. None of them wanted to have any close encounters with those revolting Dementors.
"Of course, no problem!" Ivan nodded. He knew the situation was urgent and this wasn't the time to be secretive. He raised his wand and shouted loudly.
"Patronus Charm!"
In the next instant, a brilliant light spread across the dim Quidditch pitch. The previously panicked and uncertain young wizards all turned their gazes to the source of the light.
Shortly after, a satisfying neigh echoed in everyone's ears. The light and mist in the air quickly converged, forming the shape of a Unicorn.
Everyone was captivated by the sacred and proud Unicorn. Just by looking at it, their fears began to fade, and a sense of calm and peace gradually filled their hearts.
It neighed again and ascended through the mist, its form shimmering with light as it charged directly toward the cluster of Dementors in the sky.
The Dementors were numerous, like a black tide, but the moment they came into contact with the Unicorn Shadow, the battle was completely one-sided. The powerful and terrifying Dementors were no match for the Unicorn Shadow, as if they were made of paper.
The Unicorn Shadow charged through, scattering the Dementors and causing them to disperse and flee in all directions. Strange cries echoed through the air, the angry and helpless wails of the Dementors.
