Chapter 395: The Elf in the Rain
Chapter 395: The Elf in the Rain
"If it weren't for Harry, Ron, and me covering for you yesterday, the professors would have found out that you weren't in the castle!" Hermione added.
"Is that so? Thank you so much, Hermione!" Ivan said gratefully. No wonder Professor Mcgonagall didn't know he hadn't gone to the Great Hall last night. It turned out Hermione and the others had been covering for him.
"So where did you go?" Hermione looked at Ivan with evident dissatisfaction. Yesterday, when Ivan didn't return for a long time, she almost thought he had encountered Sirius Black and met with some misfortune.
If it weren't for her having seen how powerful Ivan was, easily dealing with a large number of Dementors and Dark Wizards, she might have almost told the professors about Ivan's disappearance.
"Wait, you didn't go looking for Sirius Black, did you?" Hermione suddenly thought of something, lowered her voice, and asked.
Hearing Hermione's guess, Ivan's pupils constricted. Fortunately, he had been through many storms and had honed his acting skills in front of Dumbledore. Despite being surprised, his expression remained unchanged.
"Why would you think that?" Ivan asked, feigning confusion.
"I remember you told George and Fred a few days ago that you would find a way to earn back the House Points we lost. So I thought you must have gone to find Sirius Black, planning to catch him on your own, right?" Hermione stared at Ivan intently, analyzing non-stop.
Ivan couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time. He hadn't expected Hermione to suspect him because of those few words.
After thinking for a moment, Ivan shook his head and denied it. "I just went to find a place to practice magic yesterday. Don't overthink it."
"Is that so?" Hermione looked at Ivan suspiciously, trying to read something from his expression, but Ivan's act was too good, and she found nothing. Hermione had to give up and stop asking.
Ivan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn't that he didn't want to tell Hermione about Sirius and Peter; he was worried that if Hermione found out that Ron's pet rat, Scabbers, was actually a vicious criminal, she might lose her composure and give something away to Peter, which could be troublesome.
Thinking of this, Ivan turned to look at Ron.
Because Crookshanks had been eyeing Scabbers, Ron deliberately sat far away with his precious rat, making it unlikely that he would hear the conversation Ivan and Hermione were having in hushed tones.
When Ivan turned back, the Quidditch Match had already started.
The players from both teams flew out of the tunnel on their broomsticks, and the stands erupted into enthusiastic applause. Colorful banners fluttered in the wind and rain, and the young wizards shouted loudly to cheer for their house teams, their enthusiasm undampened by the storm.
"Go, Gryffindor!"
"Harry Potter, win!"
"Cedric, you're the best!"
It was almost as popular as Muggles' football matches.
But upon closer thought, it made sense. The magical world seemed to have only this one major magical sport, and wizards had no other choices.
"Hey, why are there people cheering for me? I'm not even playing."
Ivan scanned the crowd and suddenly noticed a raised wooden sign that read "Ivan-Hals, Go!" with some strange drawings on it.
Ivan narrowed his eyes and followed the direction of the sign, spotting a familiar figure.
"Luna?" Ivan said, somewhat surprised.
Luna, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, was sitting on a high platform without any railing, not even wearing a raincoat or a hat.
The continuous raindrops streamed down from her hair and face, dripping onto her clothes. The little witch was drenched but seemed completely unfazed, holding up a large wooden sign with a serene expression, as if she were a rain sprite.
Ivan was momentarily at a loss for words; Luna's behavior was always so unpredictable.
However, Ivan soon noticed that Luna wasn't entirely unprepared. Her clothes appeared thick and warm, likely waterproof, but who would willingly sit on a high platform in a storm?
Perhaps noticing that Ivan was not among the Gryffindor team, Luna quickly lowered the sign and hugged it to her chest. Her bright eyes scanned the stands curiously and soon met Ivan's gaze.
Since they were far apart, Ivan tried to use hand gestures to signal Luna to seek shelter, so she wouldn't catch a cold!
Realizing that the distance was too great for Luna to understand his gestures, Ivan stood up and decided to go over and remind her.
However, before he could move, he saw Luna already leaving with the sign, waving at him as she went, presumably to find shelter.
"Ivan, what's wrong?" Hermione noticed Ivan's actions and looked in the same direction, but saw nothing.
"Just saw an acquaintance and waved hello!" Ivan replied casually.
An acquaintance? That quirky Ravenclaw girl?
Noticing that Ivan had been looking in the direction of the Ravenclaw students, Hermione immediately understood who he meant.
That second-year girl named Luna had made a strong impression on her when they first met at the start of the year.
At that moment, Ron suddenly shouted excitedly.
"Look! Harry has spotted the Golden Snitch!"
Ron's shout drew Hermione's attention, and Ivan also looked up into the sky.
A golden light darted through the air, weaving around the field, with Harry closely following behind, speeding through the storm. Everyone's eyes were fixed on the Golden Snitch and Harry.
Due to the strong wind and heavy rain obstructing their view, the golden light appeared and disappeared in the crowd's sight. They had to concentrate hard to catch a glimpse of the Golden Snitch, and any distraction would surely make it impossible to find.
Ron noticed a Gryffindor player almost crashing into the wall while wiping rain from his eyes and complained loudly.
"Damn Slytherins! No wonder they switched the match with Hufflepuff at the last minute; they must have known about the weather!"
"Whatever, Harry will definitely catch the Golden Snitch!" Hermione said with confidence.
Ivan, however, felt a growing unease. As Harry chased the Golden Snitch, his figure kept rising higher, and the sky darkened strangely, as if something was stirring within the clouds.
