Chapter 394: Was Obito Born Evil?
Chapter 394: Was Obito Born Evil?
"What would you do if an old lady walked slowly in front of you and slowed down your journey?" Obito asked Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi, with his big curious eyes, looked at Obito in confusion after hearing his question, "Why...why would I want to hit an old lady?"
Obito scratched his hair. Of course, a normal person wouldn't do that, but Itachi, whose clan he had once annihilated, probably viewed hitting an old lady as a trivial matter.
Obito thought for a moment and felt he should give Itachi some options instead of letting him answer with another question.
"You're crossing the road and come across an elderly lady walking slowly. You have three choices."
"A. Help the old lady cross the road."
"B. Ignore her and go on your way."
"C. Snatch the lollipop from her hand."
After presenting the question and options, Obito quickly added, "No answering a question with another question. You must choose one of the options."
Kakashi looked at Itachi, curious about his choice.
Although Obito's question seemed a bit childish, Itachi was still young and unlikely to have any ulterior motives, so it could serve as a simple test.
Itachi stared blankly at Obito for a couple of minutes before answering, "I choose B. I would keep my distance and go on my way."
Obito's expression turned into one of realization. Just as he thought, Itachi didn't seem like a good kid at all, not even knowing the concept of respecting the elderly.
"As expected of an inherently evil kid. With such thoughts at a young age, he'll probably be snatching lollipops when he's older," Obito thought to himself.
"But why did you choose B, Itachi?" Kakashi wondered, wanting to understand Itachi's thought process.
"I might trip and fall while walking. If I'm close to the old lady, I might cause her to fall too," Itachi replied honestly.
Kakashi looked at Itachi with a hint of surprise. Despite his slightly muddled speech, Itachi's thoughts were remarkably clear. Perhaps he truly was an extraordinary genius.
Obito's expression froze, while Kakashi wore a thoughtful look.
"Why not take the lollipop from the old lady's hand? She's walking very slowly, so she won't be able to catch up to you," Obito whispered, his voice taking on a devilishly tempting tone.
"How can I take something that doesn't belong to me, Obito-niisan? Taking what belongs to others is a terrible thing to do," Itachi said earnestly.
Itachi's response left Obito a little flustered. He was the one being tested here, yet it felt like he was the one being painted as the inherently evil Uchiha.
"Let's not talk about this anymore, Itachi. Kakashi, do you want to hear a story?" Kakashi stepped in to break the awkward silence.
Itachi shifted his gaze to Kakashi and nodded.
"Once upon a time, there was a ninja..." Kakashi began, and he told a very cliched story filled with positive energy.
The story was about a ninja with a tragic childhood who remained optimistic, eventually changing his surroundings for the better and making the world a better place.
Just as Kakashi finished the story, Fugaku Uchiha returned to the living room. Seeing the harmonious scene, a smile appeared on his face.
"It seems you all are getting along well." Kakashi and Obito smiled and praised Itachi.
"Thank you for today, Uncle Fugaku," Kakashi said as he prepared to leave.
Itachi was still very young, and Fugaku would naturally pay more attention to him, so it wasn't appropriate for them to stay too long.
"It's no trouble. If you have any problems in the future, feel free to come to me as you did today," Fugaku said with a warm smile.
"The older brothers are leaving now, Itachi. Is there anything you want to say?" Fugaku asked, looking at Itachi.
Itachi nodded and turned his gaze back to Obito, "Obito-niisan, bullying old ladies is not good."
Fugaku looked at Obito with a hint of surprise, curious as to why Itachi would say such a thing to him.
Obito: ...
"You're the one who bullies old ladies!" Obito shouted in his mind. He was the model Konoha youth who always helped elderly ladies cross the road.
"Itachi, I was just making an assumption earlier. I didn't actually mean that I would do something like that," Obito explained.
"Oh," Itachi replied, nodding.
Obito felt a sense of helplessness wash over him, and his gaze toward Itachi turned slightly cold.
"As expected of someone who could annihilate the Uchiha clan in the future. I can't underestimate him at all," Obito thought, feeling that this Itachi would be a challenging opponent.
"It's just the innocent words of a child, Obito. You don't have to take it to heart," Fugaku said with a smile, understanding Itachi's intentions.
Obito put on a generous expression to show that he didn't mind, and then he left with Kakashi.
Once they were a little farther away, Obito could no longer hold back his urge to rant, "This Itachi Uchiha is indeed extraordinary. At such a young age, he already has these thoughts. Perhaps he used a lot of schemes when he destroyed the clan.
"The present Itachi is just a kid who can barely speak clearly. He might not have such evil intentions yet," Kakashi added.
Kakashi felt that it was inappropriate to judge someone from a different time, and it was wrong to assume that the present Itachi already possessed the sins of his future self.
"I think what you said makes sense, Kakashi," Deidara said, scratching his head. "But what should we do? We can't just stand by and do nothing."
"Of course, we should do something," Kakashi replied. "As his seniors, we can guide him towards a virtuous path."
Kakashi intended to mentor Itachi as an elder and steer him to become a ninja who loved his clan and village, instilling a sense of responsibility in him.
...
At Tsunade's residence, Mu Yue and Tsunade sat on stone benches in the courtyard while Shizune and Rin Nohara stood before them, attentive and upright.
Six months prior, Mu Yue and Tsunade had agreed to exchange disciples for a period, and although Rin had accompanied Mu Yue on missions during that time, she had spent most of the last six months learning medical ninjutsu from Tsunade.
Today was the day to assess Rin's progress.
"Rin, show us what you've learned," Tsunade said confidently, her arms crossed.
Rin Nohara possessed exceptional talent in medical ninjutsu and had worked diligently during her training. After half a year of guidance from Tsunade, the legendary Sannin was very optimistic about Rin's future in medical ninjutsu.
With Rin's current medical skills, Tsunade believed she was qualified to be promoted to a special jonin.
She still had a way to go before reaching the level of a full jonin, as she lacked prowess in direct combat.
"Yes, Tsunade-sama," Rin replied and picked up a bloody fish from the stone table.
"Palm Mystical Healing Technique!"
Rin gathered a large amount of chakra in her palm and then manipulated it with her Yang-attribute chakra nature transformation.
A dense green light blossomed from Rin's palm, enveloping the bloody fish.
Under the influence of the Yang-attribute chakra, the fish's wounds healed at a rapid pace, leaving not even a scar.
The fish, now fully healed, became lively and energetic, wriggling vigorously in Rin's hand.
Mu Yue nodded in approval. The fish had only been barely alive, and if Rin had been any slower, it would have died.
Rin then took a purple pill from the stone table and fed it to the fish.
The fish, which had been lively and struggling, gradually calmed down as the purple veins appeared on its body.
"Detoxification is also a mandatory skill for medical ninjas," Tsunade explained. "If you don't neutralize the poison first, any treatment would be meaningless."
She was not only the strongest medical ninja because of her incredible healing speed but also because she possessed the best detoxification skills in the ninja world. The Sand Village, famous for their poison techniques, greatly feared Tsunade's ability.
"Fine Particle Removal Technique!"
Rin firmly held the poisoned fish in her hand and channeled her chakra to locate the source of the poison.
Once she identified the location, she grasped the fish with her left hand and slightly raised her right hand.
"Chakra Scalpel!"
Rin concentrated a massive amount of chakra to enhance her hand, making it incredibly sharp. The moment her palm touched the fish's body, a clean incision appeared.
With precision, Rin extracted the poison and proceeded to heal the fish.
Rin had also learned how to formulate antidotes, but that process took a more extended period and was not suitable for a demonstration.
Subsequently, Rin demonstrated her solid foundation in medical ninjutsu by using some basic techniques to stop bleeding and aid recovery.
After completing the demonstration, Rin took a moment to catch her breath, her eyes filled with anticipation as she looked at Mu Yue.
Reaching this level was a result of Rin's relentless pursuit of knowledge. She had only mastered the Chakra Scalpel technique a few days ago.
"You've done exceptionally well," Mu Yue praised without hesitation. "Even some medical jonin might not be able to perform better."
Mu Yue had witnessed Rin's dedication to keeping up with Kakashi and Deidara, and he acknowledged her efforts.
Rin's nervousness melted away, and a joyful smile appeared on her face.
While Rin deeply respected Tsunade, it was Mu Yue whom she considered her true teacher, the one whose acknowledgment she sought the most.
"Then you should make up for it by cooking me a delicious meal." Tsunade replied bluntly, listing several of her favorite dishes.
For Tsunade, subtlety didn't exist, and if Mu Yue didn't understand or pretended not to, she would be the one at a loss.
Mu Yue readily agreed, as this was a simple task for him.
"Shizune's previous strength is something you're well aware of, Tsunade. So, let her demonstrate the results of her training with you," Mu Yue suggested.
It wasn't easy for someone to discern their own progress, and Shizune hadn't learned any powerful jutsu, so she needed combat experience to improve.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Tsunade performed the necessary hand seals and created a shadow clone, instructing it to assess Shizune's progress.
"Shizune, attack me with all your might, and don't hold back," the shadow clone said casually.
Shizune nodded and immediately entered a focused breathing state to enhance her abilities.
"Be careful, Tsunade-sama!" Shizune warned before bursting forth with her chakra, using the 'Chidori' to charge forward.
Although her strength was no match for Tsunade's shadow clone, she still showed the proper respect.
Whoosh!
Shizune's figure flickered, and in an instant, she appeared beside the shadow clone. Her right leg, charged with a massive amount of chakra, viciously struck out at Tsunade.
Boom!!
Just as Shizune was about to make contact with the shadow clone, it swiftly retreated, causing Shizune's powerful kick to land on the ground, shattering it.
The real Tsunade, who was observing the battle, was surprised. Shizune's speed and the ferocity of her attacks were impressive; one might even mistake her for a ninja specializing in taijutsu. However, six months ago, Shizune's taijutsu skills were not particularly notable among genin.
Undeterred by her first missed attack, Shizune quickly regrouped and launched a second offensive, her chakra scalpel slicing down a large tree in Tsunade's yard.
Unlike Rin Nohara, who needed to learn medical ninjutsu from Tsunade, Shizune had lived with Tsunade for an extended period, acquiring extensive medical knowledge. As a result, Mu Yue found it easy to teach her the 'Super Strength' and 'Chakra Scalpel' techniques.
For the first two minutes, the shadow clone did not launch any attacks of its own, focusing solely on dodging Shizune's assaults to gauge her offensive capabilities.
After the initial two minutes, the shadow clone demonstrated a fraction of its strength, swiftly turning the tables on Shizune.
Although Shizune was forced to retreat step by step, she remained calm and collected, defending herself to the best of her abilities while seeking opportunities to strike back.
However, due to the vast disparity in their strengths, Shizune ultimately fell to the shadow clone's hand blade.
"Shizune, were you slacking off when you were training with me before?" Tsunade canceled the shadow clone and asked Shizune.
"Of course not, Tsunade-sama! I always trained diligently with you," Shizune replied hastily, brushing off the dust from her clothes.
"I was just joking," Tsunade said with a laugh, seeing Shizune's urgency to explain.
Tsunade turned to Mu Yue and said, "You're such a good teacher. If Shizune trains with you for another year, she might be able to take on an entire team of jonin by herself."
Shizune's progress had exceeded Tsunade's expectations. Not only had she mastered the 'Super Strength' and 'Chakra Scalpel' techniques, but her taijutsu had also improved significantly.
"Another year of training won't be a problem, but I can't guarantee that Shizune will be able to take on jonin single-handedly after that," Mu Yue replied.
"Please don't make things difficult for Teacher Mu Yue," Shizune said helplessly.
Taking on an entire team of jonin was no easy feat, even for Tsunade herself. While she could undoubtedly handle a single jonin with ease, facing several dozen at once would be a different story.
"You've only been training with Mu Yue for six months, and you're already taking his side," Tsunade said, pinching Shizune's soft, pale cheeks in mild annoyance.
"Wuwuwu~" Shizune tried to explain, but Tsunade's actions rendered her words unintelligible.
Shizune's six-month training plan came to an end, and Mu Yue took the time to check on Asuma Sarutobi's progress and provide guidance.
After their training session, Mu Yue and Asuma paid a visit to Hiruzen Sarutobi's residence under the pretext of seeking advice on ninjutsu.
The real reasons for this visit were twofold: firstly, to let Hiruzen know that Asuma had successfully mastered the 'Flying Thunder God' technique, enhancing his apparent strength and perfecting his image as a genius, and secondly, to use his transformation technique to record Hiruzen's abilities and attributes.
Today, I revised the previous chapter and outlined the plot for the upcoming chapters, so this one is a bit shorter. If you read the previous chapter before 5 PM, you might want to go back and take another look.
