Chapter 394: Breaking Transformation
Chapter 394: Breaking Transformation
Meng Huang's figure gradually stretched and expanded, as if something within was straining against the confines of his corporeal shell, eager to burst forth.
His skin cracked, and a sand-like substance oozed from the fissures, accompanied by falling chunks of flesh. With each piece that fell, the human aspect of his body seemed to diminish.
Within a short while, his stature exceeded three meters, and where there seemed to be nothing, a massive shadow filled the space, its ever-changing darkness twisting across the faces of those present.
This transformation occurred right before the eyes of the entire Meng Clan, leaving them stunned and bewildered.
Only a few high-ranking members, privy to the clan's secrets, realized the truth and understood what was happening. Their expressions turned to utter shock as they gazed at Meng Huang.
Chen Chuan stood calmly, observing his surroundings. He confirmed that the entire room, and even the exterior, was adorned with intricate Venom Sect rituals, not merely painted on but integrated into the very building materials and concealed by intricate decorations.
The excellent lighting further masked the ritual's darker aspects, ensuring that, when inactive, it had no effect on people. No wonder he hadn't sensed anything amiss earlier.
Given the current situation, this was likely an extremely potent restraining ritual, perhaps designed to counter beings like Meng Huang.
Meng Huang slowly raised his head, covering half of his face with his hand, revealing one eye. He stared at Meng Lei and asked, "A ritual?"
He glanced at the holographic screen, where shocked Meng Clan members watched him, and smirked, "But it doesn't matter. We'll just have to deal with everyone who witnessed this."
One Meng Clan member on the screen couldn't hold back, "You've become like this, you're no longer human. Do you still think you can inherit the company?"
Meng Huang surprisingly responded, "Of course. Why else would I play this game with you?"
"Do you think we'll accept you? Do you think the outside world will accept you?"
"Why not?"
Meng Huang's expression turned playful.
"Once I control the company, as long as I offer enough benefits, make greater compromises, and promise to operate within a certain scope, won't they accept me?
Even if the Handling Bureau refuses, I believe others will. You say I'm not human, but even if my appearance is not human, as long as my actions and what you see and hear are human-like, does it really matter what's behind it all?"
He turned to Meng Lei, seemingly smiling, "If you can tolerate a Boundary Token under a Consciousness Coordinator, why can't you tolerate me?"
As he spoke, Meng Huang slowly lowered his other hand. The cracked skin on his face peeled away, revealing a larger eye that almost occupied his entire cheek, surrounded by sharp teeth and chaotic veins. The physiological organs and external features seemed completely disorganized.
The Meng Clan members on the screen watched in shock, some even vomiting at the sight.
Meng Lei, facing this scene, remained composed, perhaps prepared for such an outcome. He addressed the entire room, "You've all seen this, and you understand why I chose Shu."
"Brother, what's happening to him?"
"Yes, Great-Uncle, what is this?"
Not everyone knew the truth about the world. Most Meng Clan members were uninvolved, enjoying the clan's wealth and benefits without understanding the underlying secrets.
Meng Lei offered no explanation. Instead, he turned to Chen Chuan, standing nearby, and said solemnly, "Executor Chen, I entrust Shu's safety to you. Please escort her out safely."
Chen Chuan nodded. He could tell that while Meng Huang's power was restrained by the ritual, it might not hold him for long, perhaps just a brief moment.
Meng Shu stood up, bowed to Meng Lei, and then left with Yan Yi.
Meng Huang suddenly turned to look back, not with a normal gaze, as his body didn't move. Instead, the massive eye on his face rolled, and everyone felt as if they were being stared at.
The security guard, who had stood motionless since entering, showed no reaction even as Meng Huang's body underwent these changes. But upon hearing his words, the guard rushed forward and threw a punch at Chen Chuan and the others. However, before the attack landed, a gust of wind blew, and Aunt Yu stepped in front, blocking the guard's path.
Her seemingly fragile arm lifted slightly, effortlessly blocking the punch. The custom floor beneath them sank, and the surrounding furniture creaked as it shifted.
Chen Chuan didn't even glance sideways; he continued walking with Meng Shu. Meanwhile, he used the Boundary Token to contact the Handling Bureau separately, showing them the situation.
Meng Lei turned to Meng Zheng Huai and apologized, "Great-Uncle, I'm sorry to involve you in this."
"Ah, don't say that. I'm already 120 years old, and I even lied about my age to become an apprentice when I was younger. I've lived a full life.
If I hadn't come today, he probably wouldn't have held back either.
Meng Lei, I'll support your choice of Shu. You've done right by the Meng Clan..."
Meng Zheng Huai's words were cut short as two subordinates, clearly experienced fighters, helped him up and escorted him out of the room.
Action: Meng Lei watched as they left, but he himself did not move. In just a short while, Aunt Yu had already gained the upper hand against Meng Huang's security guard, and it seemed that she would soon determine the victor.
Meng Lei retracted his gaze and looked at the towering figure of Meng Huang, asking, "May I ask who you are? Or rather, which one of them are you?"
Meng Huang's enormous eyes shifted, and he stared at Meng Lei, "Why are you asking this now? Have you changed your mind? Or do you want to negotiate with me?"
Meng Lei replied naturally, "I just want to confirm your identity so that we can have a more meaningful conversation later. After all, you are all unique, and I need to adjust my approach accordingly."
Meng Huang had grown to over four meters tall, almost reaching the ceiling. He leaned down with his massive body and looked at Meng Lei, "You want to talk to me after attacking me?"
"Is there a problem?" Meng Lei asked.
Meng Lei smiled and said matter-of-factly, "You people only believe in strength. If I didn't have the power to restrain you, how could you possibly listen to me? I think this is the right time."
A mist appeared in Meng Huang's eyes for a moment, but it quickly dissipated. "It seems you've been preparing for this day for a long time."
Meng Lei acknowledged, "Yes, this is the situation I wanted to see. I can limit the impact to this place without affecting the company. Even if some news leaks out, we can still provide an explanation to the outside world."
"But your strength seems insufficient. This might not be enough."
Meng Huang glanced around and then looked down, as if seeing through the floor. "Your true body should be asleep at the bottom of this estate. I can sense it."
Meng Lei nodded and said, "You're right. If it weren't for this, if we hadn't confirmed this news, you wouldn't have come today, would you?"
In the living room, Meng Xu's message to Meng Huang seemed to have been intentionally leaked by Meng Lei. However, Meng Huang didn't seem to mind, "As long as the news is true, it's fine." As he twisted his body, the room seemed to shake, and he said, "It won't be long now."
Meng Lei didn't seem concerned. He remained calm and said, "You don't have to worry about the power of the ritual. Even if I can't handle you, the people from the Handling Bureau will come and take you back."
Meng Huang found this amusing. "You're relying on the Handling Bureau? But they might not make it here."
At the same time, inside the Handling Bureau.
For the past half-hour, Wu Ju had been receiving non-stop communications from the City Hall regarding violent incidents involving fighters in several areas of Central City, especially one that occurred right across from City Hall, causing a significant negative impact.
Multiple media outlets expressed concerns about the safety of Central City and the criminal activities of the fighters. Although they didn't directly mention the Handling Bureau, it was unclear who they were targeting.
Additionally, several officials and politicians from City Hall demanded to inspect the Handling Bureau and requested an immediate increase in personnel at the incident sites, especially near City Hall.
However, Wu Ju had rejected all these requests.
He believed that Meng Huang and the Sky Wheel Corporation, along with some other companies, were deliberately orchestrating these events. Therefore, he refused to agree and instead decided to deploy all available personnel to the Meng Estate to resolve the issue once and for all, preventing any future complications.
He told Deputy Commissioner Fang, "If they have the guts, let them fire me. But I'm determined to see this through today."
Just as Deputy Commissioner Fang was about to respond, a new communication arrived. His expression turned solemn, and he immediately connected to it. After listening, he said with a complex expression, "Wu Ju, this might be out of your control. The Defense Bureau just contacted us, requesting additional support for the Holographic Screen."
Wu Ju frowned, "The Daily Action Team is responsible for guarding the Holographic Screen. Why are they suddenly asking for more personnel?"
"You know about the previous incident," Deputy Commissioner Fang sighed. "Apparently, there have been too many casualties, leaving some areas vulnerable."
Wu Ju seemed to grow angry and slammed his hand on the table, "Why wasn't I informed earlier?"
Deputy Commissioner Fang shook his head, "The higher-ups have their reasons."
"What about the backup personnel? Don't we have reserves?" Wu Ju tapped his fingers on the table.
After a moment, Deputy Commissioner Fang slowly replied, "You know that unless it's absolutely necessary, they won't deploy those reserves. They are the last line of defense."
Wu Ju paced for a while, his brows furrowed in deep thought. Finally, he spoke, "But since it's about the defense of the Holographic Screen, I won't hold back. That's a more critical matter..."
He then used a boundary token to contact Lao Wan and Xiao Lu, "Lao Wan and Xiao Lu, stay here. The rest of you return to the bureau; there's a new assignment. Go and support Chen. Tell them not to take unnecessary risks. If the situation is unmanageable, just ensure your own safety."
After giving these instructions, Wu Ju's expression remained grave. He knew that getting two people to help was the best he could do. He hoped it would be enough.
