Chapter 394: Breaking Changes
Chapter 394: Breaking Changes
Meng Huang's figure gradually grew taller and expanded, as if something within was straining to break free from this mortal shell. His skin cracked, and sand-like substances leaked from the crevices, along with some block-like objects that peeled away from his body. With each drop, the human part of him seemed to diminish.
In no time, his stature exceeded three meters, and the seemingly empty space around him was filled with a massive shadow, its shifting darkness dancing across the faces of everyone present.
This transformation occurred right before the eyes of the entire Meng family, leaving them stunned and bewildered. Only a few higher-ranking members, those who truly understood the family, grasped the situation. They watched in sheer terror as Meng Huang turned to Meng Lei and asked, "A ritual?"
Meng Huang glanced at the light curtain where Meng family members stared at him in shock. With a smirk, he said, "It doesn't matter. Everyone who saw this today will be taken care of."
A Meng family member in the light curtain couldn't help but speak up, "You're in this state, and you still think you can inherit the company? Do you really think the outside world will accept you?"
Meng Huang chose to answer, "Of course. Why else would I play this game with you?"
"Do you think we'll accept you? Do you think the outside world will embrace you?"
"Why not?" Meng Huang's expression turned playful.
"Once I control the company, as long as I offer enough benefits, make greater compromises, and promise to operate within a certain range, will they accept me? Even if the Processing Bureau doesn't want to, I believe some people will."
"You say I'm not human, but even if my appearance isn't human, as long as my actions are human-like, and what you hear and see is human-like, does it matter what's behind it all?"
Meng Huang looked at Meng Shu and seemed to smile, "If you can tolerate a biomimetic substitute under a consciousness modulator, why can't you tolerate me?"
As he spoke, he slowly lowered his other hand. The cracked skin on half of his face parted, revealing a larger eye that occupied almost the entire cheek. The edges were lined with sharp teeth, and chaotic veins filled the area where physiological organs and external features seemed to be in disarray.
The Meng family members in the light curtain watched in shock, some even vomiting at the sight.
Meng Shu, facing this scene, remained calm. Perhaps she had anticipated it, for she addressed the others in the light curtain, "You should have seen it by now, and you know why I chose Shu."
"Brother, what's happening to him?"
"Second Uncle, what's going on here?"
Not everyone knew the truth of the world. Most Meng family members were oblivious, content with the money and benefits provided by the family and company, enjoying their lives. They couldn't possibly understand what was happening.
Meng Shu looked at Chen Chuan, standing nearby, and said solemnly, "Executor Chen, I entrust Shu's safety to you. Please keep her safe."
Chen Chuan nodded. He could tell that although Meng Huang's power was restrained by the ritual, it might not hold him for long, perhaps just a moment.
Meng Shu stood up and bowed slightly to Meng Shu before leaving with Yan Yi.
Meng Huang suddenly turned to look behind him, but it wasn't a normal glance. His body didn't move; only the large eye on half of his face rolled, yet everyone felt as if they were being stared at.
The security guard Meng Huang had brought remained still, even as strange changes occurred on his body. But upon hearing Meng Huang's words, he immediately charged forward and threw a punch at Chen Chuan and the others. However, before the attack landed, a gust of wind blew by, and Yu Sun stepped in to block the punch.
Her seemingly fragile arm lifted slightly, effortlessly blocking the punch. The specially designed floor sank beneath her, and the surrounding furniture creaked in response.
Chen Chuan didn't even glance sideways. He walked out with Meng Shu, and at that moment, the Boundary Vessel contacted the Processing Bureau through a private channel to show them the situation.
Meng Shu turned to Zhenghai Meng and said apologetically, "Grandfather, I'm sorry to involve you in this."
"Don't say that. I'm already 120 years old. I even lied about my age to get a job when I was younger. I've lived a full life.
He wouldn't have come if I hadn't, right?
Shu, Grandfather will support you to the end. You chose Shu, and you did right by the Meng family..."
Zhenghai Meng's words were cut short as two subordinates, clearly fighters, came to his side and gently lifted him, carrying him out of the room.
Meng Lei watched as they left, but she didn't leave. In just a moment, Yu Sun had suppressed the security guard that Meng Huang had brought, and it was clear that she would soon determine the victor.
Meng Lei retracted her gaze and looked at the towering Meng Huang, asking, "May I ask, who are you? Or rather... which one of them are you?"
Meng Huang's large eyes shifted, and he stared at her, saying, "Why are you asking these questions now? Have you had a change of heart, or do you want to negotiate with me?"
Meng Lei replied naturally, "I just want to confirm your identity to facilitate future conversations. After all, you are all different, and I need to have different attitudes towards different individuals."
At this moment, Meng Huang had risen to a height of over four meters, almost touching the ceiling. He leaned his massive body towards Meng Lei and said, "You want to talk to me after attacking me?"
"Is there a problem?" Meng Lei asked.
Meng Lei smiled and said matter-of-factly, "You guys only believe in strength. If I didn't have the power to restrain you, would you even be willing to sit down and listen to me? I think it's appropriate now."
A mist appeared in Meng Huang's eyes for a moment, but it seemed to dissipate quickly, and he said, "It seems you've been preparing for today for quite some time?"
Meng Lei acknowledged, "Yes. This is the situation I wanted to see. We can limit the impact to this area and prevent it from affecting the company. Even if some news leaks out, there are ways to explain it externally."
"But your strength seems a bit weak. This might not be enough."
Meng Huang looked down for a moment, then glanced below, as if seeing something through the floor. He said, "Your real body should be sleeping at the bottom of this estate right now, and I can sense it."
Meng Lei nodded and said, "You're right. If it weren't for this, if we hadn't confirmed this news, you wouldn't have come today, right?"
Meng Huang was slightly surprised. "It seems the information Meng Xu gave me was intentionally leaked by you? But it doesn't matter. As long as the news is true, that's fine." As he spoke, he twisted his body, and the room seemed to shake slightly. He said, "It won't be long now, it won't be long."
Meng Lei didn't seem to care, and she said calmly, "You don't have to worry about the ritual's power. Even if I can't handle you, the people from the processing bureau will come later to send you back."
Meng Huang, however, seemed to find this amusing and said with a smirk, "You're relying on the processing bureau to deal with me? They might not even make it here."
At the same time, inside the processing bureau...
Half an hour ago, Director Wu had been receiving non-stop communications from the city hall.
Several areas in Skywheel City had simultaneously experienced violent incidents involving fighters, especially one that occurred directly opposite the city hall, causing an extremely negative impact.
Multiple media outlets expressed concerns about Skywheel City's security and the crimes committed by fighters. Although they didn't directly name the processing bureau, who knew where the blame would fall?
Additionally, several officials from the city hall expressed their intention to inspect the processing bureau and requested an increase in personnel, especially near the city hall.
However, Director Wu had rejected all these requests.
He believed that this incident was orchestrated by Meng Huang, the Skywheel Corporation, and some other companies in the background. Therefore, at this moment, he was determined to resolve the issue at the Meng Family Estate once and for all, rather than dealing with any potential aftermath later.
He told Deputy Director Fang, "If they have the guts, let them fire me right now. Otherwise, I'm going to see this through today."
Just as Deputy Director Fang was about to say something, a communication came in, and his expression turned serious. He immediately connected the call, and after listening, his face grew complex. "Director Wu, this might be out of your control. I just received news from the Defense Bureau. There's an incident at the Curtain City, and they're requesting our support."
Director Wu frowned, "The Daily Action Team is responsible for guarding the Curtain City. Why are they suddenly requesting our support?"
Deputy Director Fang sighed, "You know about that incident. According to reports, there were too many casualties, leading to a vacuum in certain areas."
Director Wu seemed to get angry and slammed his hand on the table, "Then why didn't they ask for help earlier?"
Deputy Director Fang shook his head, "The higher-ups have their own considerations."
"What about the backup team? Don't they have backup personnel?" Director Wu asked, tapping the table repeatedly with his fingers.
Deputy Director Fang replied, "You know that unless it's absolutely necessary, they won't deploy those personnel. They're the last line of defense."
Director Wu paced back and forth a few steps, his brows furrowed. After a while, he said, "But since the defense of the Curtain City is at stake, I won't hold you back either. That place is indeed more important..."
At the same time, he used the communication boundary beacon to say, "Lao Wan and Xiao Lu, stay here. Everyone else, return to the bureau. There's a new arrangement. Just protect yourselves if things get out of hand."
After giving the instructions, his expression remained grave. The two people he could spare were the most help he could offer, and he hoped this time, things would be handled appropriately.
