Chapter 393: Obliviate
Chapter 393: Obliviate
Scabbers, who had been hiding in Ron's pocket, quietly poked his head out, listening to the conversation.
"So you support me going to avenge myself against Black?" Harry, having recovered from his surprise, said with delight.
Ivan neither nodded nor shook his head but instead asked seriously, "Are you really prepared to fight him? Let's put aside the possibility of failure. Assume you successfully defeat him. If that traitor is standing in front of you right now, what would you do?"
Harry imagined the scene, a look of satisfaction crossing his face, but before he could speak, Ivan continued.
"Would you chop off his limbs, cut him into pieces? Or use the Cruciatus Curse and watch him scream in agony until he dies?"
Ivan listed the cruel punishments one by one, and Harry was left dumbfounded, staring at Ivan in fear.
Scabbers, hiding in Ron's pocket, tugged at the bag's opening with his paws, trembling in terror. Was it really that brutal?
"I, I wouldn't do that. I would capture Black and send him to Azkaban to let the Dementors deal with him!" After a long pause, Harry stammered.
Ivan couldn't help but sigh. Without the encounter with Tom Riddle in second year and the confrontation with the Basilisk, Harry was more innocent than his counterpart in the original timeline. He couldn't help but remind him, "But you should be aware that if you fail in your fight against him, he might do those things to you, right?"
"So what? As long as I have a chance to kill Black, I'll try!" Harry said through gritted teeth.
"But what are you going to rely on to fight? The Disarming Charm? The Stunning Spell? The Petrification Spell? Wake up, you have no chance of winning!" Ivan shook his head.
Reality isn't a fairy tale. In the original timeline, if it weren't for Voldemort's obsession with the prophecy and his insistence on killing Harry himself, along with the various misguided actions due to the protagonist's luck, Harry wouldn't have survived even with ten lives!
Harry fell silent. He wanted to argue, but deep down, he knew Ivan was right. With his current strength, he was no match for Sirius Black.
But he couldn't just sit by and watch Black, who had betrayed his parents and led to their death at Voldemort's hands, walk free. Taking no action was something Harry simply couldn't bear.
Ever since he learned the details from Malfoy, the desire for revenge had gnawed at his heart like a venomous snake.
His father, James, had trusted Black so much, considering him his best friend and choosing him as the Secret-Keeper for their hiding place.
Yet this despicable traitor had betrayed his parents without a second thought, joining Voldemort's ranks!
Harry couldn't bear to imagine his parents, thinking they were safe in their hideout, only to be attacked by Voldemort. When they realized it was their most trusted friend who had betrayed them, the disappointment must have been unbearable.
Ivan observed Harry's changing expressions and guessed his thoughts. He carefully chose his words and said, "Harry, I've always said I don't intend to stop you from seeking revenge, but we need a plan. We can't just rush in to our deaths, especially when you don't even know where Black is, right?"
At this point, Ivan felt a bit helpless. He hadn't expected Harry to learn about these things at this time. With his preconceived notions, it would be difficult to persuade him to see Black's side.
The questions he had asked earlier were meant not only to comfort Harry and encourage him to stay at school while he formulated a plan but also to test Harry's resolve.
The result was clear: due to his age and inherently kind nature, Harry had no intention of killing his father's indirect murderer, but his prejudice against Sirius Black was already deeply rooted.
Ivan even suspected that if he now exposed the true identity of Peter Pettigrew, he could quickly gain Harry's trust. After all, Ron would absolutely protect his rat and refuse to admit that his long-time pet was actually a bald old man in disguise.
Moreover, in everyone's mind, Peter Pettigrew was an unquestionable hero, a recipient of the Order of Merlin, First Class!
Even if he exposed Peter Pettigrew's true identity, the guy would most likely pretend to be a victim and find an opportunity to turn the tables on him.
This would inevitably cause a commotion and attract many students and professors. Even if he could argue his case and convince everyone with the Dark Mark on Peter Pettigrew's body, the matter could not be kept secret!
The next day, the Ministry of Magic would rush to detain Peter, and on some night, Peter Pettigrew would "accidentally" die due to the "uncontrolled" behavior of a Dementor. In a more severe scenario, his body might even mysteriously disappear.
Therefore, it would be better to find a secluded place in Hogsmeade, gather Harry, Sirius, Lupin, and Peter together, and lay the facts before them to explain everything slowly.
Once he had convinced Lupin and Harry, he could then consider whether to try to persuade Mcgonagall and others.
While Ivan was contemplating all this in his mind, Ron, who had been listening for so long, finally realized that Ivan was trying to persuade Harry not to act rashly. He quickly chimed in.
"Ivan is right, you can't possibly stand a chance against Black! Remember what we saw in the Daily Prophet? Black used a single spell to blow up an entire street and killed over a dozen Muggles! Even if we all banded together, we couldn't beat him!
Besides, the first Quidditch match is tomorrow. Think about normal things. Wood and the others are counting on you to catch the Golden Snitch and win the cup this year!"
Ron cleverly remembered Harry's love for Quidditch and emphasized that as the Seeker, Harry carried the hopes of the entire Gryffindor house. He couldn't let them down!
Although Harry had no desire to play, he knew that the Quidditch match wasn't just about him. If his personal issues caused Gryffindor to lose, he would be a disgrace to the house!
He would also be letting down all the other team members who had worked so hard.
With this in mind, Harry stopped thinking about confronting Black and instead focused some of his energy on the upcoming Quidditch match, trying to adjust his state of mind so that he wouldn't be distracted during the game.
Noticing that Harry was no longer fixated on the idea of a duel, Ivan and Ron both breathed a sigh of relief. After a bit of deliberate small talk to change the subject, they each went to bed to prepare for sleep.
Lying in bed and half-asleep, Ivan felt like he had forgotten something. Turning his head, he saw the rat by the window, eyes wide open and motionless, as if lost in thought. That's when he remembered what he needed to do.
He waited until deep into the night, confirming that everyone was asleep, then quietly slipped out of bed and approached the window, raising his wand.
"You know too much Obliviate!"
After Ivan finished speaking, the silent dormitory was left with only a soft "squeak."
