Chapter 393: Beef Soup and Gong Jiu Make a Grand Entrance
Chapter 393: Beef Soup and Gong Jiu Make a Grand Entrance
As autumn deepened into winter, the weather in Guanzhong turned bitterly cold. No amount of charcoal braziers could stop the chill from seeping into the inn's common room.
Yet, Su Shaoying and Ouyang Qing entered the hall with flushed cheeks and beaming smiles.
Ouyang Qing and Xue Bing whispered to each other, their faces reddening as their conversation progressed.
Su Shaoying and Hua Manlou sat at a table, the latter sighing, "Lu Xiaofeng must be regretting his decision now."
"Not necessarily," Su Shaoying shook his head.
Hua Manlou nodded thoughtfully, "True."
Ouyang Qing and Xue Bing exchanged glances, curious about their conversation. "What are you two talking about?" Ouyang Qing asked.
Hua Manlou smiled, "We were just saying that Lu Xiaofeng might actually be quite comfortable on his journey."
"Why?" Ouyang Qing asked, "The lands beyond the pass are harsh and cold, and it seems he still has a long way to go?"
"Of course, it's because..."
Before Hua Manlou could finish, he turned his head toward the entrance.
Everyone followed his gaze and saw a carriage come to a stop outside the inn.
Xue Bing's expression stirred, "Is it Feixingzi?"
"No," Ouyang Qing shook her head, her eyes narrowing, "Feixingzi would never ride in such a carriage."
This carriage was pulled by two pure white horses without a single stray hair, and the body was crafted from finely carved redwood. Hanging within was a delicate, soft-hued canopy, exuding an air of nobility and luxury.
The coachman jumped down and gently pulled open the curtain, revealing a captivating figure within.
Clad in a palace-style dress, the woman's skirt swayed slightly, and the golden yellow sash around her waist fluttered in the wind, causing the two bells attached to it to tinkle. Her expression held a mix of pride and satisfaction, and as her eyes swept over Su Shaoying and the others, a hint of contempt flashed in their depths. But when she turned her head to look back into the carriage, her gaze softened into one of adoration and fervor.
The next moment, another figure emerged from the carriage.
Dressed in a snow-white robe, with a tall and slender build, he wore a golden crown and a jade belt, a long sword at his waist. His features were sculpted like those of a statue, and his eyes were as sharp as an eagle's, reflecting an aura of pride, confidence, determination, and cruelty.
The woman resembled a princess capable of toppling kingdoms, while the man seemed like a peerless prince.
How did such a pair end up in this place?
Although the Silver Hook Gambling House was luxurious and frequented by the wealthy and influential, none of its patrons possessed the same regal aura as these two.
Everyone's attention was drawn to the striking couple.
"Who are they?" Xue Bing asked, unable to contain her curiosity.
Su Shaoying remained silent, his eyes fixed on the woman, a smile playing on his lips.
He finally understood why Beef Soup had shown interest in him but ultimately killed the Brocade-robed Youth and disappeared—she had gone in search of the man by her side!
"Stop smiling," Ouyang Qing said with a hint of jealousy, thinking that this woman had once shared Su Shaoying's bed.
Su Shaoying pulled her into his embrace, "You've misunderstood me, my dear. I'll make it up to you tonight."
The man and woman strolled into the inn, and the woman looked at Su Shaoying, "You don't seem surprised at all?"
As soon as she spoke, Hua Manlou's eyebrows twitched slightly, recognizing the woman's voice.
But Su Shaoying's expression remained unchanged, "Many things in this world unfold in unexpected ways. If we were surprised by everything, how could we survive in the jianghu?"
Hearing this, the man's eyes flickered with a hint of condescending appreciation. His gaze swept over the four of them, finally settling on Hua Manlou, whose demeanor appealed to him the most. Thus, he deigned to address them, "You shouldn't be here."
The woman, however, smiled charmingly and said, "We're here to take back what's ours. If you stay here, are you planning to offer yourselves to us?"
Ouyang Qing and Xue Bing's faces paled as they realized these newcomers were foes, not friends.
"Is it for Liu Yuanzhan?" Su Shaoying asked, referring to the only son of the elderly Lord Liu of Chang'an and the closed-door disciple of the Phoenix Cry Swordsman. He was the youth in brocade who had accompanied the courtesan not long ago.
The stunning woman before them was none other than the same courtesan from days past, known as Beef Soup in the original novel 'Phoenix Dances in the Nine Heavens', and addressed as 'Honeybee' by her father. She also called herself 'Gong Jiu'.
To be honest, even now, Su Shaoying didn't know the woman's real name.
He certainly couldn't call her Beef Soup, could he? That plot point hadn't happened yet!
Hearing Su Shaoying's question, Beef Soup smiled sweetly and replied, "Of course. He promised me, and now everything he has is mine."
"So you killed him?" Su Shaoying asked.
Beef Soup nodded as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "Since he's mine, I can do with him as I please."
Ouyang Qing and Xue Bing's eyes widened in realization. This woman before them was the very same one who had killed the youth in brocade, the courtesan Su Shaoying had spoken of, and the invisible person on Nameless Island.
"You make a lot of sense," they murmured.
Su Shaoying nodded in understanding, then turned to look at the corner of the inn's lobby. "Sir, you must have heard everything."
Everyone turned to see an old man with gray hair and beard, well over fifty years of age. He wore a dark blue outfit, now faded and patched, that made him look like a humble farmer. His face was deeply wrinkled, and the only remarkable thing about him was the curved sword with a leather sheath by his side.
Even so, the sword looked old and ordinary, and the man seemed too old and frail to be of any significance. At best, he appeared to be a lower-level cultivator, no different from the average cultivator in the small town.
Thus, until now, almost no one in the inn had paid him any attention.
That changed when Su Shaoying addressed him.
The old man, upon hearing Su Shaoying, turned to the group and nodded. "I heard."
Then he looked at Beef Soup and said, "I'm here to avenge Liu Yuanzhan."
Beef Soup's expression didn't change, and she even smiled more sweetly. "You must be Feixingzi, the legendary number one blade in the world?"
"This old man is Feixingzi," he sighed. "As for being the number one blade, it's just an empty title, but I'll accept it nonetheless."
Beef Soup remained silent, but the man beside her spoke up. "Do you know why you're considered the number one blade?"
The old man looked at the man. "Why?"
"Because the real masters practice the sword. If I practiced the blade, you would've been dead long ago," the man replied calmly.
The old man's eyes narrowed, and his face turned solemn. He straightened his posture, and his aura transformed. He suddenly exuded an endless blade aura that sent shivers down the spines of those around him.
"The youth of today are indeed becoming more and more formidable," the old man said with a slight smile as he picked up his curved sword from the table.
