Chapter 393: Beads of Sweat Form on Sybrian's Forehead
Chapter 393: Beads of Sweat Form on Sybrian's Forehead
According to the Ice Snow Witch, the Protoss Empire had been spending vast sums to imprison these three demons for centuries without ever killing them because they wanted to subjugate them and harness their power.
Each of the three possessed unique and miraculous innate magical talents that others could never hope to attain in their lifetimes.
However, no human or half-demon had ever appeared who could convince them to submit.
Even in the decline of the demon race, these mighty demons would rather die than become slaves to humans. No amount of equitable contract could sway them.
Based on the Ice Snow Witch's understanding of these three great demons, any Protoss who had dared to enter their cells with offers of contracts had undoubtedly been killed during the negotiations.
For the great demons, such an offer was an unforgivable insult.
The Ice Snow Witch assured Sybrian that if she were the one to meet the Guardian Antanas, he would not harm her, regardless of whether he agreed to form a contract with her.
However, the same could not be said for the other two.
After all, Sybrian was not the cruel, fierce, and powerful Second Princess, Iphaetia.
She was vastly different from her mother.
If it weren't for Lanchi's desire to control the Great Lover Poet and have him communicate with the two great demons, Sybrian would never have agreed to this risky endeavor.
Nonetheless, their priority now was to swiftly navigate the preceding levels, gathering enough hidden mission quest points to trade for access to the deeper levels.
Sybrian turned to glance at the three Bastion Priests behind her.
They seemed to be awaiting further instructions from the Great Lover Poet.
"Obey Milian's orders," came the brief, slightly hoarse instruction from beneath the mask.
"Yes, Master," they replied in unison, maintaining a respectful distance while bowing to Sybrian.
They were keenly aware that regardless of the form their master presented, male or female, they were existences never to be touched. The fact that their master allowed Milian Milford to make physical contact was a clear indication of her exceptional status within the Bastion sect, and they were sincerely convinced of her worth.
"..."
The Great Lover Poet then returned to standby mode, seemingly willing to follow Sybrian's lead unconditionally, no matter which direction she chose to take.
The primary task of delving deeper into the Hellrom Prison had been entrusted to Sybrian, and Lanchi would only divert his attention to assist when needed.
"Rest assured, just focus on your task, and I'll handle the rest," Sybrian said, grasping the Great Lover Poet's upper arm reassuringly as they divided their tasks.
Even though Lanchi's true body was not by her side, having him as a summon somehow made her feel especially reassured.
Sybrian had never seen such a stupefied expression on Lanchi before, and she found it surprisingly novel.
Perhaps even he, usually flawless and impenetrable, could be caught off guard and teased.
However, the task at hand demanded their full attention, leaving no room for relaxation.
From their current location in the grand hall, several passages branched out, but the most obvious path led straight ahead to the Negative First Floor and the Warden's Office.
According to the rules of this level, they were to accept quests assigned by the warden.
Sybrian began leading the Great Lover Poet toward their destination, following the signs indicating the way to the Negative First Floor.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly, and with the help of the Bastion Branch, what was supposed to be a challenging wild team-up had turned into a reliable professional package deal. Sybrian felt that the final step of this rescue mission had gone from super hell difficulty to high difficulty.
The only thing that made Sybrian a little nervous was the obedient demeanor of the three teammates behind her.
They really seemed to see her as their superior from the Resurrection Church.
There was a confidentiality rule in the Fate Goddess Church's priestess assessment rules—from the start of the task, one must not reveal to others that they were undergoing an assessment.
Should one hint at their priestess assessment in any way, the Church's token of faith, the 'Proof of Fate', would self-destruct.
This was also a major test of the reliability of the priestesses.
Firstly, whether or not the priestess' assistants were aware that there were observers at the critical points of the task would not affect the success rate of the task itself.
Secondly, by prohibiting the disclosure of the existence of this assessment, it could prevent those with ulterior motives from colluding with the enemy and increase their chances of infiltrating through unspoken collaborative means.
It was because of this rule that the Fate Goddess Church had successfully caught traitors in the past. The other assistants from the Resurrection Church did not know that their spy was being assessed, and they directly used the Resurrection Church's style of doing things. They were soon caught red-handed...
In the corridor of the Warden's Office on the Negative First Floor of the Hellrom Prison, Sybrian and her group walked quickly, their faces somewhat obscured by the dim yellow lighting, their shadows cast upon the ancient stone walls, swaying gently with their footsteps.
As Sybrian thought, the three people behind her seemed to sense her unease.
"Lady Milian, please believe in our loyalty. Even if it means death, we will not hesitate for a moment. You need only focus on completing your grand mission."
The three exchanged glances, and the leader spoke in a low voice to Sybrian.
They were well aware that they must not expose their identities as Bastion Priests within Hellrom Prison. Now, they had to pretend to be three students, but they still hoped that their leader would trust their nature and attitude.
"..."
Sybrian turned to look at the trio, their fanatical demeanor causing her expression to shift several times. Her trembling lips seemed to beg them, "Don't say it... don't say it..."
She prayed that Lanchi and these three people would not do anything abstract later. Whether or not she passed the assessment was a minor issue. If she were branded as a traitor in the faith assessment, she would never be able to clear her name, even if she jumped into the sea!
In the high-latitude viewing space, the Chosen Saintess, the Grand Priestess, and the Grand Paladin all frowned.
The priestess taking the assessment had found three dead men. Where did she find them?
The Fate Goddess Church usually wouldn't go to such extremes for a major task.
It's not that such an attitude and execution are inappropriate for important missions.
But the feeling these three people give off is very unsettling.
It's as if they took three loyal people and maliciously brainwashed them to a point of madness, further distorting their original loyalty into something akin to love, yet chaotic and twisted.
Could it be that Archbishop Almis trusted a big boss of the Resurrection Church too easily and handed over such an important task to her? If so, Archbishop Almis would have to take full responsibility.
