Chapter 392: Why Are You Still Out So Late?
Chapter 392: Why Are You Still Out So Late?
As Ivan was about to return to the Gryffindor common room, he unexpectedly ran into Professor Mcgonagall, who was in charge of patrolling the corridors tonight.
"Hals, why are you still out so late? I remember Professor Flitwick mentioned during dinner that you should all stay in your dormitories at night for the next few days."
Seeing Ivan wandering alone in the castle, Professor Mcgonagall's expression was quite serious, and she asked him with evident disapproval.
But I haven't even had dinner yet, Ivan silently complained to himself.
He had spent the entire afternoon and evening either meeting with Sirius Black or experimenting with his new abilities in the Room of Requirement. He had no idea what Professor Flitwick had said during dinner in the Great Hall.
However, these details were not something he could easily share with Professor Mcgonagall. After hesitating for a moment, Ivan apologized and explained, "I'm very sorry, Professor Mcgonagall! I usually like to find a quiet place to practice magic after dinner. I got so absorbed today that I lost track of time."
Hearing this, Professor Mcgonagall's stern expression softened considerably.
"Hals, while it's a good habit to practice magic regularly, it's quite dangerous outside these days. You should take a break for a while. What if Black is still hiding in the castle and you run into him by accident?"
Professor Mcgonagall earnestly advised him, emphasizing the danger posed by Sirius Black, fearing that Ivan might become complacent due to his exceptional skills.
After all, in her view, even though Ivan's magical abilities far exceeded those of his peers and were on par with adult wizards, he was still just a thirteen-year-old boy. His lack of combat experience made him vulnerable against a ruthless and dangerous criminal like Sirius Black.
Ivan did not argue but humbly assured her that he would be more careful next time.
Satisfied, Professor Mcgonagall nodded and let him go after a few more words. She was about to continue her patrol when she suddenly remembered something and hesitated before speaking again.
"Oh, Hals, remember to talk to Harry when you get back to the dormitory and remind him not to be too impulsive."
Harry? What's wrong with him?
Ivan was puzzled and wanted to ask Professor Mcgonagall what had happened. However, he held back, unsure if this matter had also been discussed in the Great Hall. Asking carelessly might reveal that he had been missing for most of the day.
Thinking this over, Ivan responded casually. He would ask Ron and Harry when he got back to the dormitory.
"Hey, kid, the password!" a mischievous voice called out as Ivan approached the entrance to the Gryffindor dormitory.
Looking up, Ivan saw that the portrait of the Fat Lady was gone, replaced by the portrait of Sir Cadogan and his fat gray horse.
Sirius Black's easy entry into Gryffindor using a Confundus Charm had been a significant blow to the Fat Lady. Despite no one blaming her, she felt extremely guilty and insisted that she was no longer fit to be the guardian of the entrance.
After failing to persuade her otherwise, the professors gave her some time to cool off and replaced her with Sir Cadogan, the only one willing to take on the role.
Compared to the diligent and responsible Fat Lady, the newly appointed Sir Cadogan was far less popular. He often teased people into duels and changed the password frequently.
"Are you a cunning liar? If you haven't had time to change the password yet", Ivan said with a sigh.
He could only pray his luck was a bit better; otherwise, he would have to learn from Black and cast a Confundus Charm on the other person.
"Yes, you got it right! Remember to be cautious about this, go on in!" Sir Cadogan mounted his fat horse, waved his sword, and opened the door.
Ivan sighed in relief and walked straight into the Gryffindor common room. The fireplace burned brightly, the rolling heat dispelling the night's chill. He could faintly hear a few young wizards who were still awake, laughing and playing around in the common room.
Ivan deliberately moved closer to hear more clearly.
Various playful laughter kept reaching his ears. Soon, Ivan confirmed one thing: at least in his non-transformed state, the laughter had no effect on him.
This discovery made Ivan very happy. He returned to the dormitory in a good mood. As soon as he pushed the door open, he heard Harry and Ron arguing.
"Calm down, Harry! The Ministry of Magic will catch him sooner or later, you don't need to risk your life for this!" Ron looked worriedly at Harry and said.
However, Harry's face was very grim. He was not in the mood to be grateful and said hysterically,
"How am I supposed to calm down? They knew all along why Black was after me, yet they kept it from me for so long! Do you know what I saw and heard when I encountered the Dementor on the train?
I heard my mother screaming, pleading with Voldemort to spare my life! If you heard your mother scream like that before she was killed, you would want to find the traitor and take revenge too!"
Ron looked helpless, but fortunately, he heard the commotion at the door and turned to look at Ivan, calling out happily, "Ivan, you came just in time. You should try to talk some sense into Harry!"
"What happened?" Ivan was surprised. From their conversation, he guessed the general situation but wasn't sure if he was right.
Ron didn't hide it and explained the whole story.
Ivan then understood that since last night when Lupin accidentally let it slip, Harry had been brooding over it. During the breaks, he kept pestering the professors for information.
Although Mcgonagall and the others were tight-lipped, it wasn't just the professors who knew. In the end, Harry managed to get the information from Malfoy.
The cost was being mocked by Malfoy, who called him a coward who only dared to hide in Hogwarts and lacked the courage to seek revenge on Black.
Harry was naturally furious and, in a fit of anger, decided to find Sirius Black and challenge him to a duel! Fortunately, Ron held him back, and Hermione quietly informed Professor Mcgonagall, who intervened.
"Do you also plan to stop me from seeking revenge on Black?" Harry's face was cold, and he was genuinely angry.
However, Ivan shook his head lightly and said, "No, I don't plan to do that!"
Harry was taken aback, not expecting Ivan to say this.
Ron's eyes widened as he looked at Ivan. He suddenly felt that asking Ivan to talk to Harry was a mistake.
