Chapter 391: Won't You Swing Your Arms?
Chapter 391: Won't You Swing Your Arms?
"It's my honor to be able to help resolve the sect's worries." Lu Chen said with a smile.
Feng Yu, who was standing beside them, heard the conversation between the two and suddenly realized why Huo Lin'er's attitude toward them had been so different when she first met them.
"By the way, Brother Lu, since I've brought you to the heart of the blessed land, I'd like to ask for your help with a problem we're currently facing."
"Please go ahead, Brother Huo. I'll do my best to assist," Lu Chen said sincerely.
"It's also related to the unusual spirit herbs."
Huo Lin'er knew that Lu Chen was obsessed with cultivating spirit herbs and beasts, so he naturally wouldn't seek his help in other areas.
"We encountered a large patch of strange spirit herbs in a passageway in the underground cave. Countless spirit herbs were entangled together, and they somehow formed a faint formation. We've tried many methods, but we haven't been able to get rid of them smoothly."
"Those spirit herbs are blocking a crucial passageway. If we can't get rid of them, we won't be able to enter that area," Huo Lin'er said gravely.
"A group of spirit herbs forming a formation? Could it be that spirit herbs can actually form arrays?" Lu Chen exclaimed in surprise. With his knowledge in spirit herbs, this was the first time he had heard of such peculiar plants.
"Brother Lu will understand once you see it."
Huo Lin'er led Lu Chen and the others to a spacious cave.
Inside the cave, there were more than thirty disciples of the Celestial Sword Sect, some deep in thought, some meditating, and others engaged in heated arguments.
"Come, Brother Lu, let me introduce you to everyone."
Huo Lin'er pulled Lu Chen by the wrist and brought him in front of a cold and aloof young man.
The young man had his eyes closed, and between his eyebrows was a vertical pupil that gazed at Lu Chen and the others without any hint of emotion.
"This is Wu Xie. There are three True Transmission disciples here: myself, Jian Wuxia, and Wu Xie is the third."
"Greetings, Brother Wu. This is Brother Lu Chen. It was his method that allowed us to get rid of those parasitic spirit herbs earlier," Huo Lin'er introduced enthusiastically.
"Nice to meet you, Brother Wu," Lu Chen said politely. He had been practicing the Eye-Opening Technique for quite some time and had consumed several strange eyes from the Hundred-Eyed Bizarre Tree. Coupled with his familiarity with the Nightmare Eye, he immediately recognized the extraordinary nature of the vertical pupil between the cold young man's eyebrows.
"Brother Lu, your reputation precedes you. We'll be troubling you later," Wu Xie said.
"It's my pleasure," Lu Chen replied hastily.
He looked around the cave and nodded at Jian Wuxia from a distance. He also spotted Zhang Ruiping and several other disciples who were resting in the camp.
During the demon beast attack, thanks to the prior warning, none of the Celestial Sword Sect disciples who had stayed in the camp had died. Only two disciples were injured, but their wounds were not serious.
"There are more than thirty disciples at the Foundation Establishment stage, with the weakest being at the mid-stage. Over ten of them are at the late stage, and Huo Lin'er, Jian Wuxia, and Wu Xie are just a step away from the Golden Core realm."
"This is the depth of a major sect..."
Lu Chen looked at the numerous disciples in the cave and couldn't help but sigh.
Previously, in Linyangfang City, there were only a handful of cultivators at the Foundation Establishment stage, and they were all at the early stage with no hope of breaking through.
But in this cave, any one of these cultivators could easily destroy all of Linyangfang City, showcasing the terrifying power of a major sect.
After a short rest, Huo Lin'er, Wu Xie, and Jian Wuxia led Lu Chen into a dark red passageway.
The group swiftly moved through the passage and soon arrived in front of a steep cliff.
On the other side was an entrance to another passage, from which dense spiritual energy was emanating.
When unfurled, the top branches were slender and long, resembling bizarre fingers. When closed, they scrunched together, resembling blue-black knuckles with prominent joints, twisted and powerful.
"This is the patch of strange spirit herbs. I'll try attacking them, and I ask that you observe their reactions carefully, Junior Brother Lu."
Lu Chen immediately nodded, his eyes fixed on the bizarre forest of arm-like spirit herbs below.
Huo Lin'er clenched her fist, and a fiery-red spear shot out, piercing viciously towards the spirit herbs.
Lu Chen witnessed the spirit herbs near the spear's impact point instantly condense together, rapidly forming layer upon layer of dense, blue-black webbing.
The massive web blocked the spear's fierce strike, and the remaining heat continued to scorch the blue-black arm-like spirit herbs.
Suddenly, a gigantic arm burst out from the web, formed by dozens of entwined spirit herbs. It coiled around the center of the fiery-red spear and snapped it in two.
"Now that's interesting," Lu Chen muttered to himself.
Huo Lin'er shot out another fiery-red spear and rode a crimson cloud towards the densely intertwined blue-black spirit herbs.
The hundreds of blue-black spirit herbs nearby seemed to sense his approach, lashing out from all directions towards Huo Lin'er in a well-coordinated and natural assault, as if they were a single entity.
Huo Lin'er merely wanted to demonstrate the spirit herbs' peculiarity to Lu Chen and didn't linger, quickly returning to the dark red passageway.
"As you've seen, Junior Brother Lu, these arm-like spirit herbs below seem to merge into one, and when faced with a powerful enemy, they automatically coalesce the strength of their companions to mount a united defense," Huo Lin'er explained.
"To pass through this area smoothly, there are only two methods. One is to rely on absolute strength and brute force our way through, crushing them with sheer power."
"The other is to find their weakness or peculiarity and exploit it, thus devising a countermeasure to effortlessly subdue these mutated spirit herbs."
Wu Xie, standing nearby with his eyes closed, added in a low voice, "I am well aware of everything that is happening below, even with my eyes shut."
Lu Chen nodded, acknowledging the peculiarity of the spirit herbs, which seemed to form an array with their surrounding companions, ever-changing and unified, appearing impenetrable.
"Could we send multiple sect members to attack these strange spirit herbs simultaneously and observe if they reveal any vulnerabilities under frequent assaults?" Lu Chen suggested after some thought.
"We've tried that, but it didn't yield much success," Huo Lin'er replied. "The spirit herbs coordinate with each other more fluidly and naturally than we imagined, and their reaction speed is incredibly fast. They seamlessly switch between different positions and forms, remaining extremely troublesome."
"I'll give it a try and experience it firsthand. Only then can I gain a clearer understanding of these mutated spirit herbs," Lu Chen said.
"Be careful, Junior Brother," Wu Xie cautioned.
Lu Chen stepped up to the edge of the cliff, just over ten zhang away from the nearest blue-black branches.
The towering, frenziedly dancing blue-black branches seemed to be challenging Lu Chen.
"Well, what a warm welcome," Lu Chen remarked, turning his head to the side.
"How about you, the audience on the right? Won't you swing your arms too?"
The blue-black branches under his gaze immediately reacted, with the plants wildly dancing, bizarre yet strangely harmonious.
