Chapter 391: The Advantages and Limitations of New Abilities
Chapter 391: The Advantages and Limitations of New Abilities
Ivan nodded in satisfaction as he observed the power of his punch. His muscular build was not just for show.
Next, Ivan tried to move a much taller and heavier Storage Cabinet standing nearby, to test just how strong he had become!
This time, however, it was a bit more challenging. Ivan struggled quite a bit before finally managing to lift it.
If it were a real Troll, moving a Storage Cabinet would probably be much easier.
After all, according to the books and his personal experience in his first year, Trolls possessed a terrifying amount of strength, almost superhuman.
Clearly, while transforming into a Troll significantly increased his strength, it still didn't match the original.
Noticing this, Ivan wasn't particularly discouraged. This was within his expectations, though he was slightly disappointed.
After resting for a moment and returning to his original form, Ivan then tried transforming into other creatures, such as a Phoenix, Thunderbird, and Thestral—powerful beings.
He found that he could use Boggart Transformation to make these creatures look incredibly lifelike, and to some extent, even reproduce their powers, but these powers were quite weak.
For example, when he transformed into a Phoenix, he could use a certain amount of Magic Power to produce a fist-sized flame, which could ignite a few books. Beyond that, it was no different from a Scottish red-tailed rooster.
Even so, the fact that the transformed creatures retained some of their abilities was enough to make Ivan very happy.
After all, in addition to the Boggart, he also had the powers of a Basilisk and a Unicorn within him!
If Ivan remembered correctly, when he first used the Animagus Transformation, the Unicorn bloodline in his blood had been activated, but it quickly subsided.
If he could directly transform into a Unicorn or a Basilisk, he might be able to reactivate this bloodline power!
Since the characteristics of the Basilisk were more pronounced, after much consideration, Ivan began to visualize the image of a Basilisk in his mind.
Unlike before, as soon as Ivan conceived this idea and began the transformation, his Magic Power was rapidly drained, flowing into his body in a steady stream.
Ivan was startled. While transforming into other creatures did require some Magic Power, it never felt like it was about to drain him completely.
Fortunately, the worst-case scenario didn't happen. Just as his Magic Power was about to run out, it gradually stabilized. Then, Ivan's body began to uncontrollably expand and elongate, stretching like a piece of dough.
His skin became incredibly hard, with thick, dark green scales glowing faintly with Magic Power. His head became grotesque, with a gaping mouth full of long, sharp fangs.
Most importantly, Ivan noticed that his vision had changed. The world around him was a gray, black-and-white landscape. While he could still identify objects by their shapes, it felt a bit strange.
Is this how the world looks through the eyes of a Basilisk?
This unique vision made Ivan quite eager. He wanted to test whether he now had the ability to kill with a single glance.
Unfortunately, there were no living creatures around for him to experiment with. Ivan decided to test other aspects first. He lightly flicked his tail, and the nearby wooden table was immediately sent flying.
Ivan then rushed towards the cabinets, bookshelves, and tables in the potion storage room, venting his destructive energy on them.
After a series of experiments, Ivan was certain that his transformation retained most of the Basilisk’s strength and characteristics.
For instance, the scales covering his skin were incredibly hard. Even when he swung his tail with all his might and created a dent in the wall, he felt no pain.
Ivan couldn’t test his magic resistance because he couldn’t cast spells in this form, but from what he knew, the Basilisk’s resistance to magic was quite high. Only powerful spells like Sectumsempra would cause any damage.
However, this didn’t mean he could recklessly charge around after transforming.
After all, powerful Dark Wizards could cast the Killing Curse, and the Basilisk’s large size made it an easy target. Even with high magic resistance, a direct hit would not leave him unscathed.
Ivan also discovered that the Basilisk, unlike ordinary snakes, lacked the ability to sense heat. Otherwise, the Basilisk in the original world wouldn’t have had trouble finding Harry’s exact position even after being blinded.
In its place, his senses and hearing were greatly enhanced. He could clearly perceive the vibrations when a wooden table hit a distant wall and the debris fell to the ground, and he could hear very subtle sounds!
Of course, there were also drawbacks. Transforming into a Basilisk took much longer than transforming into other creatures. If he couldn’t find a way to speed up the transformation, he might be vulnerable in battle.
Additionally, while in Basilisk form, he couldn’t use magic, meaning he could only engage in physical combat or use his gaze to petrify opponents!
What worried Ivan the most was that his transformed Basilisk was almost identical to the original. He wasn’t sure if it would be affected by the sound of a rooster’s crow.
While pondering these thoughts, Ivan slowly transformed back into his human form.
During this process, the Magic Power he had expended during the transformation returned to his body. Ivan silently breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that he wouldn’t be left without magic after a single transformation.
Next, he needed to test whether laughter could affect his transformation and whether the Basilisk’s inherent weaknesses still existed.
However, when Ivan turned to look at the clock on the wall, he realized it was already nearly ten o'clock in the evening.
Considering he had been missing for half a day, he decided to avoid drawing attention by continuing to stay in the Room of Requirement to experiment with his new abilities.
Mastering and testing new powers wasn’t something that could be done in a day or two, so there was no rush.
With this in mind, Ivan spent some time using magic to tidy up the potion storage room, which had been left in disarray, and then left, heading towards the Gryffindor common room.
As he walked, Hogwarts seemed unusually deserted, with not a single person in sight. Ivan quickly understood why.
The incident with Sirius Black breaking into the Gryffindor dormitory had happened just yesterday, so few young wizards would be out and about this late at night.
