Chapter 390: The Crimson Baron
Chapter 390: The Crimson Baron
"Hey, you're kidding, right?"
Even Kuro of the Sky was visibly shocked, watching Kas's fiery declaration before turning to the Clone Soldiers who'd been influenced. They murmured, "Did willpower really triumph over technology? Has idealism actually defeated materialism?"
Are you freaking kidding me?
Well damn, I'm just damn impressed!
Is this world actually capable of spiritual ascension or something?!
"You've gotta be joking!"
A furious roar erupted from the crowd surrounded by Clone Soldiers.
Gajeel's feet ignited, propelling him forward as his spear crackled with golden electricity, hurtling toward Kas. "My achievements are flawless! You, this Harlequin who used unorthodox methods to destroy my achievements, shall never be allowed to live in this world!"
Vinsmoke's greatest strength lay in technology, particularly their reliance on mass-producible Clone Soldiers—the very foundation of Gajeel's military might.
But now, that military foundation faced the risk of being overturned!
That bearded Navyman absolutely couldn't be left alive.
"Everyone, attack together! Take down this Navyman!"
For this bearded menace, eliminating him had become the top priority!
He must be destroyed!
"Remember! Recall your human joys and sorrows! Learn to think independently, humans!"
Kas clenched his fist, roaring at the charging Clone Soldiers.
The white aura expanded like a contagion—spreading from one to ten, then a hundred. The Clone Soldiers halted mid-charge, their expressions turning bewildered.
Even Sazil, approaching from nearby, shuddered involuntarily. In that moment, he questioned his own existence as a human.
The memories kept replaying—the scene of him being beaten.
Was he born merely to suffer blows?
No!
Absolutely not!
Tools are never meant to be slaves!
I will overturn my fate!
I will become a Navy officer!
"Humanity! Cling to thought! Cling to justice!" Kas bellowed.
"Die!"
Gajeel and his squad had already flown toward Kas, launching a synchronized attack.
"Telekinesis Blade—Lion Bite!"
Kuro unsheathed Autumn Water, slashing downward in one fierce motion.
Whoosh!
A howling gale erupted from the blade, roaring toward Gajeel's group. The air behind them suddenly turned violent, the wind surging from their backs, engulfing all five figures and hurling them backward.
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
As they were swept away, Gajeel's body seemed sliced by invisible blades. The wind repeatedly struck his Battle Suit, causing it to clang violently. The suit finally collapsed under the relentless assault, its dense network of slashes exposing Gajeel's bloodied skin.
"Tsk, don't forget about me. I'm still waiting for your complaints", Kuro said coolly, gripping Autumn Water.
This technique was an upgraded version of the 'Beast-Sundering Lion'—by manipulating air currents, a single slash now created a dense network of wind blades. Unlike before, these could continuously slice through human bodies instead of merely dispersing them.
The group crashed to the ground amidst the gale.
"Battle Suit! My Battle Suit is ruined!"
Gajeel clutched his torn armor, panic-stricken.
"He's coming!"
Lida half-rose, staring at the sky.
Swoosh!
Kuro instantly appeared before them, Black Blade pointed at Gajeel. "Ready to talk now? Give me an explanation—even if you have to make one up."
"Winch Impact!"
Yūji leaped up with a kip-up, launching a punch at Kuro.
Hiss!
Without glancing, Kuro's blade became a black wisp, slicing through Yūji's chest. The Battle Suit tore completely, a gaping wound spewing blood as Yūji collapsed.
"Yūji!"
Lida screamed, rushing forward with a palm strike glowing pink venom.
"Poison?"
Kuro sidestepped, his Armament Haki-infused hand gripping Lida's wrists. He countered with a kick to her abdomen.
Bang!
The blow made Lida gag, flying backward and skidding across the ground for meters.
"Scary indeed. Better not get contaminated", Kuro said, lips pouting in mock surprise.
"Electric Spark Fist!"
Niji gathered electric sparks in his fists, attacking from the side as Kuro kicked Lida away.
Kuro didn't even look. His body shifted slightly, the blade flashing across Niji's shoulder.
Hiss!
Niji's shoulder clothes shredded, blood spraying as he fell.
"Spark!"
Yiji leaped from behind, hands crackling with energy. "Let's die together!"
His hands clapped together.
Boom!!!
An explosion erupted, flames surging outward from his core. The blast packed serious power—enough to inflict severe damage if it hit directly.
"Wind Coffin."
Kuro didn't turn around. He spoke casually.
The flames twisted and dispersed instantly, breaking into glowing embers that scattered like fireworks across the night sky.
"Beautiful! So beautiful!"
Lida clapped excitedly on the stone platform. "Hey, red-haired guy, let's see another fireworks display!"
Hiss!
Kuro didn't oblige. His blade slashed backward, cutting Yiji's chest and dropping him instantly.
"Now can we talk?"
Kuro pointed Autumn Water at Gajeel's face, looking down at him.
Four Vinsmoke Family members lay around Kuro—bloodied and staring upward. Gajeel, blade-pointed, wore pure terror. Nearby, the battered Lida clutched her abdomen, half-kneeling with a complex expression.
Click.
The camera lens nearby slowly rotated, capturing the scene.
The preset time had arrived.
"Redfield!"
Gajeel, still capable of emotion, wailed with tears and snot. "It was Redfield! He hired us to do this—to obtain the Treasure Map fragment jointly held by the four nations and find a legendary treasure!"
"Who?"
Kuro blinked, stunned. "Redfield?"
Gajeel nodded frantically. "It's not our fault! We were just hired hands! Even we Vinsmoke couldn't resist that powerful man! I can't die! My ambition isn't complete yet! Don't kill me!"
Kuro pondered, feeling the name was familiar yet elusive.
Was there such a figure in the Grand Line?
"Klah?"
He instinctively turned to Klah, who was already drenched in cold sweat.
"Mr. Kuro, he's a legendary pirate from the Legend!" Klah trembled, adjusting his glasses. "A solitary crimson force who rivals Whitebeard and Roger—Solitary Crimson, the Crimson Baron, Redfield."
"Oh, that guy."
Kuro nodded, sheathing Autumn Water and turning away.
"Retreat now! What are you all still standing there for?!"
He barked at the stunned crowd.
Right, there was that eccentric freak.
He had issues dealing with such a person.
Leave this troublesome matter to the Marine Headquarters.
His trip to the North Blue wasn't meant for battling someone rivaling the Four Emperors.
"Ahhh!!!"
Suddenly, screams erupted from behind the mountains Kuro had previously collapsed. Soldiers from the four nations flew outward as a lone figure emerged through the crowd.
"Hey, Kuro. Someone's coming."
Lida pointed, cold sweat dripping from her face. "He's terrifyingly strong!"
