Chapter 39: How to Properly Feed Lady Lore
Chapter 39: How to Properly Feed Lady Lore
Cedric and Autumn had a conversation in the Great Hall, but Kyle had no idea what they talked about as he returned to the Hufflepuff Common Room with a smile.
Kyle was reading a book when a plump bag suddenly dropped from above, landing on the open pages of his book.
"What the..."
Startled, Kyle turned to look at Cedric, who was grinning widely. "What's with you? Did you find money? Why are you smiling so sleazily?"
"This is much faster than finding money."
Cedric squeezed onto Kyle's sofa and excitedly explained, "Guess how much we made from selling the Ravenclaw maps...
52 Sickles each, 52 Sickles in total!"
Although Cedric phrased it as a question, he didn't wait for Kyle to respond and continued, "Who would've thought that with a few Knuts worth of parchment and a few incantations, we could make so much money..."
"Wait a moment."
Kyle was becoming more confused as he listened, so he interrupted Cedric, who seemed to be acting like he had drunk fake alcohol. "52 Sickles? Shouldn't it be only 40 Sickles? And what's with the parchment?"
"It's like this..."
Cedric explained, "I went to the Ravenclaw Tower at noon and modified the route according to their needs. After Autumn saw it, she thought we could raise the price a bit, so that's how it ended up with this amount.
As for why we used parchment...it's actually a little trick with the Duplication Charm.
For notes, maps, and similar items, removing the most complex part, the parchment, and only duplicating the content makes casting the spell easier, and the duplicates last much longer."
After listening to Cedric's explanation, Kyle understood why there were an extra 12 Sickles. With the improved quality of the maps, the price naturally had to increase.
However, using parchment seemed a bit unnecessary to Kyle. In his opinion, those maps wouldn't be useful for more than a month, and Cedric's actions seemed a bit excessive.
Fortunately, the parchment wasn't that expensive; together, they cost less than two Sickles, which was insignificant compared to the final profit.
Moreover, Cedric had paid for it himself, which was the most important part.
Kyle put away his Sickle and casually asked, "By the way, what's your impression of Autumn?"
"I think she's a smart young witch, very honest and with a good personality. She should be a pretty good person," Cedric replied after some thought.
"That's it?" Kyle frowned.
"Um... generous?" Cedric ventured.
"Forget it, don't say anymore."
Kyle rubbed his forehead. Although it was indeed a bit early, he never expected Cedric's first impression of Autumn to be that she was very honest...
Who the hell describes a girl as honest?!
That's enough for now; I'm tired.
Kyle closed his book and stood up, heading towards the Common Room corridor.
"Are you going out?" Cedric asked.
"I'm going to feed the cats," Kyle replied.
"Okay."
Cedric responded and then didn't pay much attention, lowering his head to count his Sickles. As he counted, he muttered to himself, "Haha, I never thought I could make pocket money. This feeling is fantastic. I must write a letter to my dad to tell him the news."
As Kyle entered the wooden corridor, he silently sympathized with the Ministry of Magic's staff for a second.
It seemed that Mr. Digory had some new material to show off. Hopefully, they would get used to it soon.
...
After leaving the Hufflepuff Common Room, Kyle deliberately made a lot of noise in the corridor.
He was a man of his word. Since he had promised to bring fish treats for Lady Lore, he couldn't go back on his word.
There was also the failure of the "McGonagall Feeding Plan."
Although Kyle had already tried to convince himself and was well aware that it was an impossible task, he still felt a bit disappointed since he had high expectations before.
No matter what, I'm determined to feed this cat today, and even Dumbledore's arrival won't stop me.
Although Lady Lore isn't a tabby, they're both cats, and they look somewhat similar. It's a decent substitute, at least.
Within three minutes of Kyle's continuous noise, Lady Lore arrived, accompanied by Filch.
"Aha, I've caught you, little wizard, making a ruckus in the corridor," Filch said, tilting his head and looking at Kyle with ill intent. "I'm going to put you in detention!"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Filch, but I think you might be mistaken," Kyle said calmly. "Rule 22 of the Hogwarts Rules clearly states that making loud noises in the corridors outside of curfew hours will result in a verbal warning, and only after three accumulations will detention be enforced."
"I know, I don't need you to remind me!"
Filch seemed furious, his face darkening. "You're good at memorizing the rules, aren't you? What's the point of knowing them so well if you still break them intentionally?"
"I'll be watching you. You'd better never make a mistake, or I'll catch you for sure."
"That day will never come," Kyle said with a smile. "And Mr. Filch, I'm doing this only to find Lady Lore.

You know, it's not easy to find a cat in such a large place as Hogwarts, and this is the fastest way."
Filch's expression immediately became wary. "I'm warning you, don't you dare have any ill intentions towards my cat, or I'll make you pay, even if it costs me my life!"
"You're overthinking it. I just want to thank her," Kyle explained. "My roommate had an accident this morning, and it was Lady Lore who led me to the Hospital Wing. This is my way of saying thanks."
As he spoke, Kyle took out the bag of fish treats and tried to feed one to Lady Lore.
Unfortunately, Lady Lore didn't even glance at it.
Filch smirked beside them. "Don't waste your effort. She only eats what I feed her."
"Then you feed her," Kyle said, handing the bag to Filch. "Rest assured, it's just plain fish treats. You can even ask a professor to inspect it if you want."
"No need," Filch said coldly. "We don't want it."
"Don't be so quick to refuse. This is a gift from a little wizard," Kyle said nonchalantly. "And Longbeard Cod Treats are top-notch goods, costing ten Galleons per bag. They're a rare delicacy in the Wizarding World, considered the finest cat food. I had a hard time getting my hands on them."
Filch hesitated.
If it were ordinary fish treats, he definitely wouldn't dare to risk feeding them to Lady Lore. But if they were Longbeard Cod...
Kyle was right; this type of fish treat was indeed the best cat food. Filch had once considered getting Lady Lore a gift like this for Christmas.
But he couldn't buy it.
It wasn't a matter of money. Although the gatekeeper's salary wasn't high, Filch lived at Hogwarts, with room and board covered, and he had little expenses. Over the years, he had managed to save some money.
The problem was that these fish treats were always out of stock, whether in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade Village. Money couldn't buy them.
Filch carefully smelled the fish treats in his hand, ensuring there was no strange odor, before looking up at Kyle. "You'd better not be lying to me."
"Poisoning the gatekeeper's cat is no small matter," Kyle said calmly. "I'm only in my first year, and I don't want to get expelled so soon."
Filch thought about it; Kyle seemed to be right. If something happened to Lady Lore, Kyle wouldn't be able to escape blame.
"You can go. I'll pretend I didn't see you this time."
"Thank you."
Kyle walked straight ahead, and as he passed Lady Lore, he threw the fish treat he had been holding.
"Here, you can have this too."
This time, Lady Lore didn't refuse. Seeing Filch's subtle nod, she stood up and caught the fish treat, devouring it in a few bites.
