Chapter 389: The Life-Saving Sword Talisman
Chapter 389: The Life-Saving Sword Talisman
After intentionally evading two Ling Xiao Sect cultivators who were being pursued by demon beast puppets, Lu Chen chose a direction and instructed the Yaoguai Vine to continue searching for spirit herbs.
Half an hour later, the Yaoguai Vine arrived at the edge of a small lake.
The lake was not very large, and its surface was a reddish-black color, exuding a faint fishy smell.
With Lu Chen's permission, the gray vines crossed the reddish-black lake and extended toward the bottom.
Soon, the Yaoguai Vine emerged from the lake unharmed, its tendrils wrapped around a fiery red spirit herb.
The edges of the spirit herb were adorned with a flame-like pattern, emitting a soft red glow.
Lu Chen planted it in the spirit soil, and with his focused spiritual sense, he instantly gained information about the fiery red spirit herb.
Mutated Flowing Fire Wood, a third-grade spirit herb...
Fell into a Five Elements counteracting water environment and is unable to grow normally, barely sustaining its vitality.
Can use treasures, talismans, or art techniques to dispel the abnormal water-attributed spiritual energy within and restore it to normal.
"A fire-attributed spirit herb that fell into the water," Lu Chen found it amusing. He rubbed his fingers, and a wisp of pure white flame appeared at his fingertip.
Having studied the Pure Yang True Fire Manual for some time, he had a profound understanding of fire-attributed art techniques. While it might not be sufficient for combat, it was more than enough for roasting spirit herbs.
With the exquisite fire control ability of the Flame Manipulation Technique, the Flowing Fire Wood spirit herb soon regained its normal state. The flame-like pattern on its edges shone brightly, vibrant with vitality.
Thus, under the surveillance of the Void Nightmare, Lu Chen deliberately evaded demon beast cultivators and focused on searching for spirit herbs.
After a strenuous half-day search, the Yaoguai Vine found three mutated fourth-grade Arrow Vine spirit herbs and several third-grade spirit herbs.
Lu Chen was content with the harvest and was just about to figure out a way to reunite with his Tianjian Sect fellows when suddenly, three cultivators appeared in the eye pupil on his palm.
Two of them wore the standard robes of the Wan Shou Gate. One was Long Miaomiao, whom he had encountered a few times. Her body was knotted with muscles, and she controlled several giant apes while fighting the demon beast puppets that pursued her.
"Hmm? Feng is also here."
As Lu Chen was about to leave, his sharp eyes spotted Feng Yu, a fellow sect member, trailing behind Long Miaomiao.
He paused briefly, and a grayish-white eye pupil emerged from the void, entering the Gluttonous Worm Pouch. Lu Chen, however, remained in place and waited.
Feng Yu was from the same sect, and they shared a bond of camaraderie. It was only natural to lend a helping hand when possible.
Moreover, since Feng Yu had been studying mutated spirit herbs with him for some time, he had even more reason to offer assistance.
When the three of them were almost within range, Lu Chen stepped forward to meet them.
"Senior Brother Lu, I didn't expect to run into you here. Hurry, escape! There are many demon beast puppets chasing us," Feng Yu exclaimed upon spotting Lu Chen's silhouette in the distance. He was initially relieved but, considering Lu Chen was alone, he then cautioned, concerned that Lu Chen's presence as a spirit herb cultivator might not significantly impact their current situation.
"Junior Brother Feng, there's no need to worry. I have a foolproof plan," Lu Chen reassured Feng Yu. He then scanned the area behind the three cultivators with his spiritual sense.
There were two or three dozen demon beast puppets pursuing them, including some that were once fourth-grade demon beasts.
With a calm mind, Lu Chen transmitted his voice to the three cultivators: "Junior Brother Feng, Long, and the other fellow from Wan Shou Gate, please move closer to me."
"I have a fourth-grade sword talisman that is extremely lethal. It can instantly release countless powerful sword energies, causing significant damage to these demon beast puppets," Lu Chen explained.
Long Miaomiao, with her delicate features and sturdy build, glanced in Lu Chen's direction and hesitated for a moment. Ultimately, she chose to trust him.
The three cultivators moved closer to Lu Chen, quickly forming a small circle.
"The sword talisman doesn't have eyes. Please be careful, all of you, to avoid being injured by the sword energies!" Lu Chen warned.
With a soft cry, a talisman that resembled a sword tip, neither metal nor jade, slid out from his sleeve and into his palm.
In an instant, countless dark sword energies howled forth from the talisman, akin to a rising tide, layer upon layer, sweeping towards the demon beast puppets.
Even under Tu Yinsi's control, where the demon beast puppets were fearless and relentless, the indiscriminate attack of the Whistling Sea Sword Talisman left them riddled with holes, pierced by innumerable sword energies, except for a handful of thick-skinned or exceptionally swift beasts.
"Brother Lu, the power of your talisman is truly astonishing!"
Long Miaomiao exclaimed in awe as she beheld the ruins before them, plowed and torn by the sword energies.
After escaping the camp, the trio had been on the back foot due to the blast's aftermath and the relentless pursuit of the demon beast puppets.
But now, with Lu Chen's sword talisman, the tide had turned effortlessly.
"As expected of the Heavenly Sword Sect, renowned for their sword arts. A single talisman is enough to repel so many demon beasts," the other Wan Shou Gate cultivator chimed in.
Instead of basking in their praise, Lu Chen wore a pained expression.
"You two don't understand. I'm not skilled in combat, so before entering this blessed land, I had to prepare thoroughly to ensure my survival. It cost me a great deal to acquire that life-saving sword talisman."
"I see. Thank you, Brother Lu, for your timely assistance. We are forever indebted to you," they said, their expressions turning solemn as they expressed their gratitude.
"Am I supposed to forget about it? I want repayment now," Lu Chen grumbled inwardly.
"There are still some tricky demon bird puppets ahead. I'll leave them to you two," Lu Chen instructed as he approached the fallen demon beast puppets, collecting their remains into his storage bag.
Though their bodies held little blood, flesh, or essence left, they could still be used to feed the Yaoguai Vine and recycle materials for artifact refining, making them valuable nonetheless.
The trio understood Lu Chen's actions and discreetly averted their eyes. Given the precious nature of the sword talisman he had used, it was only fair that he claimed these spoils of war.
After tending to their respective tasks, Long Miaomiao and the others returned to Lu Chen, looking a bit disheveled. Without a word, they offered the demon beast puppets they had hunted to Lu Chen.
"Junior Brother Feng, Sister Long, you may each choose whatever material you need from a demon beast puppet. Leave the rest of the carcasses to me; I'd like to study them," Lu Chen said gently.
"Thank you, Senior Brother Lu!" they exclaimed, sincerely grateful for this unexpected bonus.
After quickly processing the materials, Lu Chen and his companions wasted no time and made their way towards the frontline positions of the three sects.
As they traversed through a deep valley, Lu Chen halted, prompting the others to do the same.
Before them, four massive dragon-like demon beasts emerged, their forms sinister and movements stiff, yet their aura far surpassed that of the previous demon beast puppets.
"That Tu Yinsi has even managed to parasitize and control dragon-like beasts..." Lu Chen marveled inwardly as a Great Sun Sword Talisman quietly slid into his palm.
"The life-saving sword talisman," he murmured, noticing the others looking at him.
Feng Yu and the others exchanged puzzled glances, wondering just how many lives Lu Chen intended to save with his talismans.
