Chapter 388
Chapter 388
Peeves had a vague sense of foreboding. When the young wizards in front turned around, his premonition turned into reality.
"Peeves, has no one ever told you that talking too much can easily get you into trouble?" Ivan frowned and warned.
The moment Peeves saw Ivan's face, he instantly remembered his previous miserable encounters. He let out a scream and quickly turned to run.
However, it was already too late. Ivan casually threw a button and pointed his wand.
Under the effect of the Transfiguration Spell, the button extended into a long rope under the influence of magic, automatically wrapping around Peeves' body and binding him tightly.
Peeves was different from the other ghosts wandering the school. While he had some ghostly traits, he was a special kind of mischievous spirit with a physical form, capable of picking up light objects. Naturally, he couldn't escape the rope Ivan had transfigured.
"Hals, I actually know nothing, I haven't seen anything", Peeves said in panic as Ivan approached.
Ivan didn't believe a word Peeves said. If he were to believe the ghost's lies now, the news of him opening a secret passage and preparing to go somewhere would surely spread throughout the school by the next day!
While this wouldn't prove that he had contact with Sirius Black, it might affect his future actions. So Ivan couldn't let this annoying spirit go so easily.
He waved his wand and pointed it at Peeves, preparing to cast Obliviate. Since the fear charm had affected Peeves before, the memory-erasing spell should also work.
"No! Don't do that, Hals! I can promise you that I won't tell anyone", Peeves said quickly, shaking his head nervously as the magical light flickered at the tip of the wand.
Perhaps Peeves' pleading worked. Ivan slowly lowered his wand, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "How about this? You answer one question for me, and I'll untie you and let you go. Deal?"
Peeves was overjoyed and nodded vigorously.
"You wander the school all day. Do you know where there's a Boggart?" Ivan asked.
"A Boggart? What do you want with that thing?" Peeves was surprised, but then thought Ivan might be planning to play a prank on someone, so he became interested and spoke freely.
"I saw one in Filch's filing cabinet. You can check there."
Ivan thought about it and decided that Peeves was likely not lying. After all, in the entire Hogwarts, apart from some secret passages he didn't know about, the only places left unsearched were the professors' offices and Filch's office.
If Peeves wanted to cause trouble, he would have lied and said the Boggart was in Snape's office.
"Alright, I've answered your question. Now untie me quickly", Peeves shouted, wriggling anxiously, worried that Ivan might not keep his word.
"Of course, I'm a man of my word! I'll go check Filch's office. You'd better not be lying to me, or you'll know the consequences", Ivan said, waving his wand to retract the rope back into a button and putting it in his pocket.
"If that Boggart hasn't been dealt with yet, it must still be there", Peeves said with a gleeful cackle after regaining his freedom.
However, Peeves was, after all, a mischievous poltergeist. Even though he had promised Ivan not to say anything to anyone, he had been thwarted by Ivan several times before. This time, he finally had a chance to get the better of him, and he wouldn't let this opportunity slip away.
Peeves's blue eyes darted around, his mind brimming with all sorts of mischievous ideas.
As for Ivan's potential retaliation, he didn't care. At worst, he could hide for a couple of weeks and avoid Ivan in the future.
Just as Peeves was getting more and more excited, a familiar voice rang out behind him.
"Obliviate!"
"Hals, you tricked me!" Peeves managed to cry out sharply before being hit by a white light, leaving him dazed and motionless.
"This doesn't count as breaking my promise. I only agreed to untie you and let you go, nothing more", Ivan muttered as he put his wand away.
At the same time, the system notification in his mind sounded.
【After some practice, your Obliviate spell has leveled up. Current level: 5 (2/1600)】
Ivan was surprised. He hadn't realized his Obliviate spell had already reached level five, which explained why he had been using it more smoothly lately.
After erasing part of Peeves's memory, Ivan took out the Marauder's Map to track Filch's movements.
Noticing that Filch was patrolling the other side of the castle and wouldn't be returning to his office anytime soon, Ivan headed over to check if the Boggart was still there.
Ivan had just left the corridor when Peeves regained consciousness. He looked around, confused about why he was there.
But this confusion quickly faded as Peeves began to consider which group of young wizards to torment today.
On the other side, Ivan had already quietly sneaked into Filch's office.
The room looked somewhat cluttered, with a dark ceiling and a hanging oil lamp. The walls were lined with rows of cabinets.
On the right side of the room was a wooden desk, and nearby was a small iron basin with a badly chewed-up roasted fish, emitting a faint odor.
Due to the urgency, Ivan went straight to the filing cabinets and started opening them one by one. Most of the cabinets contained records of student misconduct on parchment and various strange confiscated items.
In one cabinet labeled "Confiscated Items, Highly Dangerous", Ivan found many familiar prank items, such as dungbombs, bangs, and Skiving Snackboxes. Clearly, George and Fred had been caught by Filch during one of their pranks.
Finally, when Ivan opened the rightmost cabinet, he found not a file or a prank item, but a flat human head, staring at him with open eyes.
