Chapter 388: Where Is Your Heart?
Chapter 388: Where Is Your Heart?
The airborne Object descended once more.
Gajeel gritted his teeth and roared, "Human Wall!"
The Germa 66 soldiers suddenly retreated from the battlefield, speeding toward their commander's position.
After resisting several waves of attacks, these soldiers gathered around them in a tight circular formation, creating a massive Human Wall that encircled their leader.
The descending Object halted just meters above them.
Kuro's expression darkened. With a flick of his hand, the Objects ascended back into the sky.
"Hah! Have you gone soft?!" Gajeel jeered, his voice laced with both surprise and mockery. "How pathetic! The Navy actually showing useless sentimentality!"
He had planned to use these soldiers as a shield to break through the battlefield and behead the Four Kings before the cameras timed out. This would give him bragging rights - before the entire world, he could proudly declare that even against a powerful Navy opponent, the Vinsmoke Family could eliminate these monarchs within the time limit.
This would be the foundation for his reconquest of the North Blue!
But who would've thought Lucius Kro would abandon his attack?
"Mercy! Kindness! Gentleness! These sentimentalities are useless! Only those who abandon emotions can become true strong men! Lucius Kro, no matter how powerful you are, you'll never be a true strong man!"
Gajeel shouted at Kuro, "Only my science and technology can create the ultimate strong men! You're a failure for hesitating to kill these Clone Soldiers!"
After all, these were merely disposable assets - five years to grow a complete human body. He could produce as many as he wanted.
"What nonsense."
Kuro clicked his tongue, unsheathed his blade in one fluid motion, and slashed downward.
"Crushing Pressure!"
Boom!
Crimson Killing Intent surged like a blood tide, crashing down from above.
Yet aside from Gajeel stiffening slightly, no one else reacted. The Clone Soldiers stood rigidly in formation.
"Tch, useless?" Kuro resheathed his blade, impressed. "Truly remarkable."
Gajeel sneered, "Strong? Indeed! But it's meaningless against us! My technology has already stripped them of those useless emotions! See this? This is the true strength of Vinsmoke!"
The Clone Soldiers, like all Vinsmoke warriors, felt no fear or emotion. They were completely immune to Killing Intent.
This was their greatest advantage - immunity to Conqueror's Haki.
This was why they dominated the North Blue.
Human bodies had limits. Even Whitebeard could be wounded by ordinary attacks (though numbers meant little to him). But for others, numbers still mattered. If Conqueror's Haki couldn't instantly clear their disposable troops, the Vinsmoke Family would overwhelm them with their Numbers Doctrine.
This was another form of attrition warfare - hesitation met with overwhelming numbers.
"So you think cloning technology is truly wicked", Kuro said, eyeing Gajeel.
"Don't you realize that those who lack emotion and desire have already lost the strength to shape the future?"
"Brute strength and ruthless hearts are the true path forward! What would you, a World Government dog, understand?" Gajeel spat. "Even the World Government must heed my words! Who are you to challenge me? Lucius Kro, I'll say this again - interfere with me again, and I'll make sure you never get promoted for the rest of your life!"
This was a serious threat.
Though this man was strong, being Lucius Kro's subordinate meant he couldn't be easily removed from the Navy. But blocking his promotion? Gajeel believed he could manage that.
To a Navy officer, rank meant everything. Without rank, one was nothing.
A common sailor? That would be unbearable for someone like him!
Yet these words caused an unusual silence in the space.
Reiju glanced around, noticing Lida on the high stone platform eating snacks, giving Gajeel a look of "what an idiot."
Nearby, Klah pushed his glasses up and shook his head, the expression on his face like he was watching his father's foolishness.
Boom!
A massive aura erupted from the figure in the sky. Gripping his hilt tightly, he growled, "You said that? When I get promoted, I'll tear down your mobile fortress and strip you of all territory forever!"
Such a blessing in disguise?!
This man was from Vinsmoke, a force that could influence the World Government.
If they truly hated him, they might make Kuro's wish come true.
Gramps had done something right this time. This situation suited him perfectly.
Thinking about it, in such a situation, others might have "disappeared" already. Ordinary Navy forces couldn't handle such emergencies. The famous Vice Admirals were all busy with clearing operations in the New World to ensure the duel proceeded smoothly.
Only he could come here.
So this was fate denying his promotion?!
Click.
The blade slowly emerged from its sheath.
Kuro's aura intensified, making Reiju instinctively swallow hard. She looked at her family with concern. Was this man not as they thought?
Perhaps even stronger?
Could they truly handle this?
"Commodore Kuro!"
As Kuro prepared to strike, a thunderous voice suddenly rang out.
Turning his head, he saw Kas leading a group of Navy soldiers ashore, rushing toward them.
"I've come to reinforce you!"
Kas clearly used Acceleration. The Navy soldiers moved at incredible speed, quickly reaching a nearby hill. Drawing his saber, he declared, "Is this battle? Then we won't falter either! Let's go, comrades!"
"Oooh!!"
White auras erupted from the soldiers behind him, enveloping their bodies in distortion, transforming them into White Colossus-like figures as they accelerated toward the Vinsmoke forces.
"Send some to deal with them. Don't let them interfere."
Gajeel ordered the Clone Soldiers, and part of the formation guarding them split off to intercept Kas.
Soon, the two forces clashed.
Though these Clone Soldiers had only been developed over five years, their combat abilities were unquestionably elite among soldiers.
Being clones, their movements were perfectly synchronized, unlike pirates whose individuality made them disorganized. They resisted being scattered by Kas's formation attack.
Kas's formation wasn't about raw attack power, but coordination and persistence born from collective willpower that made them hard to knock down.
This created a stalemate.
"This is..."
Kas cut down a Clone Soldier, watching the emotionless figures step over their fallen comrade and continue advancing. He was momentarily stunned.
Then tears streamed down his face.
"Pitiful! So pitiful! Where is your heart?!"
