Chapter 388: Founding a Club
Chapter 388: Founding a Club
Dementors suddenly appeared on the school grounds without warning, much to Dumbledore's fury. He couldn't believe that such an incident had occurred while he was away for just a day.
Upon receiving this news, Dumbledore immediately dropped everything and headed to the Ministry to meet with Cornelius Fudge.
No one knew what was said in the Minister's office, but by Monday, most of the Dementors stationed at Hogwarts had been recalled, leaving only a few remaining at the essential entrances.
Additionally, there was no mention of this incident in the Daily Prophet, as if nothing had happened.
However, the students at Hogwarts were unaware of this, and no one noticed that the number of Dementors had significantly decreased.
After the weekend, the castle remained bustling and busy, with the only change being Harry's broken broom.
But aside from the Gryffindor students, not many others seemed to care about this.
As for Kyle... the dragon scale badges became popular again. Ratton's recently delivered stock was quickly sold out, and even the more expensive dragon tooth accessories were mostly sold.
But these were minor matters, not worth mentioning.
The first class in the morning was Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Professor Lupin looked rather unwell, with his robe hanging loosely and dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept for days.
However, when the students entered, he managed to smile.
"Today, we're going to learn a very useful little trick—the Search Spell."
Professor Lupin spoke in a weak voice, "Using this spell, you can easily find hidden creatures or objects with magical properties, leaving them nowhere to hide.
If you're in ancient ruins or a dangerous forest... knowing what's around you is undoubtedly crucial.
It can help you avoid Kelpies hiding in the water and alert you to Banshees perched on tree branches."
"Now, everyone, take out your wands..."
According to the original plan, Professor Lupin was supposed to take the fourth-year students for an outdoor class. Two weeks ago, he had prepared a large clearing on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, where students would use the Search Spell to find hidden Bowtruckles and Fairies.
However, plans often change, and he certainly didn't have the energy to take the students outside the castle. Instead, they had to make do with practicing the spell and gestures in the classroom.
"We'll talk about it in the next class," Professor Lupin thought to himself.
After getting used to Professor Lupin's engaging and interesting lessons, practicing spells alone seemed a bit dull.
Moreover, the Search Spell was different from other spells. Without a target, it was challenging to determine if one was doing it correctly.
About half a class period later, the students started to feel bored, and their spellcasting and gestures gradually became perfunctory.
"Professor..."
Suddenly, someone asked, "Do you know about Dementors?"
Everyone immediately became more alert, their eyes fixed on Professor Lupin.
This topic was undoubtedly more interesting than the dull waving of wands.
"Of course, I know," Professor Lupin said, "Although I wasn't at school last Saturday, I learned about the incident from the other professors.
Dementors are one of the most evil things in the world. They feed on every kind of beautiful emotion and every happy memory...
Those who stay with them for too long will go insane, eventually becoming like them, soulless and full of evil."
"Then why did the Dementors go to the Quidditch pitch?" someone asked.
"I believe they were hungry," Professor Lupin replied calmly, "The excitement and high emotions around the Quidditch pitch were undoubtedly a feast for the Dementors."
"Professor, can you teach us how to defend against them?" another student asked, referring to the Patronus Charm that could conjure silver animals.
"That's quite difficult. You'll have to wait until your seventh year," Professor Lupin replied.
He glanced at the student and continued, "Besides, Professor Dumbledore has already taken care of this matter. Rest assured, those Dementors won't dare to enter the school again."
"But Professor, the headmaster won't always be around," the student persisted. "What if, like last Saturday, the Dementors take advantage of the headmaster's absence and suddenly break into the castle? We should at least have some self-defense capabilities."
Professor Lupin furrowed his brows, "That's... the content of the seventh year. It might be too early for you to learn it now."
"No problem, Professor," Kyle suddenly spoke up. "We can definitely learn this spell, I guarantee it."
"Yes, yes," Michael quickly added. "Kyle has already mastered it, so we should be fine too."
Professor Lupin opened his mouth, wanting to say that Kyle was just an exception and it didn't prove anything. But he swallowed his words.
"There's not enough time," he said. "Learning the Patronus Charm requires not only precise control of magic but also high emotional control. It's not something that can be learned in half a lesson.
But if it takes up too much time, it will interfere with your end-of-term exams and even the O.W.Ls in your fifth year. Let's wait until your seventh year."
"But Professor, can you teach us until our seventh year?" a faint voice came from the corner.
Professor Lupin felt embarrassed as he realized that he might not be able to, as Dumbledore's employment contract only offered him a one-year term.
Of course, it wasn't just him; all previous Defense Against the Dark Arts professors had one-year terms.
According to the professors' gossip, there was a stack of such contracts in the headmaster's office, as many as the new student admission letters. They just needed to fill in the names when needed.
It was hard to tell if this was true or not...
As Professor Lupin remained silent, the students began to chatter again.
"Professor, I really want to learn this..."
"We promise to study hard..."
"Even if we have to write two rolls of parchment for homework, we..." His words were cut off as someone beside him covered his mouth.
This was truly impossible.
"If you're concerned about time..." Kyle spoke up again, "You could learn from other professors and start your own club."
"A club?" Professor Lupin lowered his head, considering the feasibility of the suggestion.
"Yes," Kyle said, "After what happened last Saturday, I believe many students in other years would also want to learn the Patronus Charm.
Learning an extra spell is always a good thing. If we gather everyone interested in learning this charm under the club's name, you'd only need to allocate two hours a week."
Professor Lupin pondered for a moment and nodded thoughtfully.
"A club is indeed a good idea, and it won't interfere with your regular studies... But if all seven years participate, won't there be too many people?"
He slightly frowned, "And I doubt Hogwarts has a classroom big enough to accommodate everyone."
"Of course, there is," Kyle said with a smile. "What about the Great Hall? You probably don't know this, but last year, Professor Lockhart applied to the headmaster and established a Dueling Club in the Great Hall. Almost all the students joined at that time.
Since he could do it as a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, you can certainly do it too."
