Chapter 387: Dazed and Confused from the Duel
Chapter 387: Dazed and Confused from the Duel
The first quarter-final match concluded with You Xuan effortlessly advancing to the next round as the first contestant.
While most people didn't find the outcome surprising, the process was somewhat unexpected, especially for those who weren't very familiar with You Xuan.
The Planet Series cards are unique and extremely rare worldwide, so for most people in the audience, this was their first glimpse of the "Gorgeous Venus."
And, of course, it was also their first time witnessing the true potential of Gorgeous Venus' ability to negate all magic traps affecting itself.
Indeed, with Venus in play, all full-field AOE magic trap seals automatically become one-way, and once this setup is achieved, the opponent might as well take their hands off the Duel Disk in defeat.
In the duel that just concluded, Gorgeous Venus lived up to its reputation as a dominant force in the Planet Series, as its ability to suppress opponents was on full display.
The bizarre part, however, was that Gorgeous Venus was supposed to be the trump card of You Xuan's opponent, yet it ended up becoming the core of You Xuan's ultimate self-locking tactic.
While it's not uncommon to see players employing blocking strategies or even unconventional methods in the current meta, this was the first time anyone had witnessed a self-locking strategy centered around the opponent's ace card.
By the end of the duel, You Xuan's opponent was left dazed and confused, leading You Xuan to calmly put away his Duel Disk and pick up the "Gorgeous Venus" card that had been placed on it during the duel, slipping it into his pocket.
Even the other spectators, including the Judge, the embodiment of the Orichalcos God, had likely never witnessed such a peculiar incident in all their years.
While most people in the audience didn't notice, those with experience in the supernatural, like Kaiba, who had encountered numerous supernatural events in the Duel Monsters world, and a few others, including the Judge, could tell that there had been a switch during the duel.
However, this wasn't unusual. Ghost dueling has been around for ages, and those in the know are aware that even Yugi Mutou, the King of Games, had a ghost duelist in his place during his rise to fame.
While ghost dueling is not uncommon, it is certainly odd for a ghost duelist to get so frustrated that they disconnect mid-duel and run away.
It appeared that after Venus was taken by Ox, sealing their fate, Little Lobster instantly lost their cool, fell silent, and pretended to disconnect.
"That guy's name is Tragodia, right?" Loren, one of Doma's Three Musketeers, blurted out.
"I recall that this guy isn't an ordinary monster, is he?"
"Yeah," the Judge replied nonchalantly.
Loren fell silent.
Tragodia was, after all, a BOSS-level high-ranking monster. Even within the organization, it would be on par with the Three Musketeers, if not higher.
Even though it was a ghost duel, it was astonishing that such a being had been angered to the point of fleeing.
"Keep an eye on that kid," the Judge suddenly spoke up, glancing at You Xuan as he walked off the stage.
"Yes," Loren nodded, his eyes fixed on You Xuan with a strange look.
When he had first heard that the "Seal Device" had fallen into the hands of such a character—a student at the Duel Academy, he had thought it was purely due to luck.
But now, that notion had all but faded.
It seemed that the divine artifact ending up in his possession might not have been a coincidence. Despite appearing harmless on the surface, it was hard to tell if there was more to this student than met the eye.
Should one find themselves dueling against him, it would be prudent to remain vigilant at all times.
Ryou Marufuji, who had witnessed the entire duel, was left speechless.
He recalled his own duel with You Xuan during the preliminaries, the feeling of his relentless attacks being swallowed up, and the sense of powerlessness that his once-proud Electron Dragon had never experienced before.
But you have to admit, he won, didn't he?
Moreover, seeing You Xuan jump off the stage and high-five Judai looked like he was having a lot of fun dueling.
Marufuji's thoughts swirled.
Indeed, in dueling, the outcome might be more important than the process.
At this moment, a team of doctors arranged by the Kaiba Corporation had already taken the stage to tend to Ruiji, who lay unconscious.
Top-notch medical care was, of course, provided for such an event, and the standards were even higher than those for regular sporting events.
After all, wasn't it common knowledge that card games were the world's most dangerous competitive sport? Well, in the first match, there was already a player who had dueled herself into a state of delirium.
The doctors quickly lifted Ruiji onto a stretcher and carried her away to the medical room.
"It seems there was a slight incident during the duel. Everyone, please return to your waiting areas for the time being. The organizers will notify you when the next round begins," announced Isono before following the medical team.
One of the lead doctors quietly asked, "Are you going to continue the competition?"
"Of course," Isono replied calmly.
"But something like this has happened," the doctor said, sounding a bit incredulous.
"You probably don't understand the severity of the situation. This girl may never walk again for the rest of her life. No, there's even a possibility she may never wake up," the doctor explained.
"I know," Isono acknowledged with a nod.
Doctor: "?"
"Why are you all taking this so calmly?"
"Don't worry, the participants signed agreements before the tournament," Isono assured him.
Doctor: "No, this isn't about agreements."
"You should really take a look at what the first tournament was like."
Kajino patted the doctor's shoulder and said with the air of a veteran, "I was also a judge during the inaugural tournament."
Indeed, compared to that event, this was a minor incident.
In the quarterfinals, Yugi Mutou used Osiris' Sky Dragon to send his opponent, Ushio, straight to the ICU with a super electric conduction wave. Following that, during the duel between Ishizu of the Tomb Keepers and Kaiba, Ishizu attempted to summon the Winged Dragon of Ra with a fake card and was struck by divine punishment, turning him into a vegetable.
Then there was Marik, whose hair somehow caught on fire during his duel, causing his originally normal-looking face to take on an otherworldly appearance. He subsequently sent Mai Valentine and Joey Wheeler to the medical room as well. And let's not forget the constant occurrence of divine interventions and heavenly portents, making the whole event far more dramatic than what was unfolding now. There was hardly a match where someone didn't end up unconscious, but the duels continued nonetheless.
However, this doctor seemed new to the scene and couldn't comprehend the situation.
Thus, he sought out Kaiba, the CEO of Kaiba Corporation.
"Mr. Kaiba, do you think the tournament should continue?"
Kaiba raised an eyebrow. "Why shouldn't it?"
"Well, one of the duelists just fainted."
"Is there something wrong with that?" Kaiba asked, curious.
Doctor: "?"
