Chapter 385: Communication Bookmark
Chapter 385: Communication Bookmark
A silvery gas swiftly ejected from the tip of Albert's wand, forming a luminous silver sphere in the empty air. The dimly lit room was illuminated, casting a pale light on the faces within.
The door creaked open, and a red-haired girl walked in, her gaze falling upon the floating sphere. With a gentle tone, she asked, "I guessed you were practicing magic when I couldn't enter the private library. By the way, was that a Patronus?"
"Yes," Albert replied, dispelling the Patronus. As he closed his eyes, the walls of the room instantly lit up with a warm glow.
"It's said to be a challenging spell to master," Isabelle remarked as she sat in a nearby chair, a smile playing on her lips. "How's it going so far?"
"I've got a basic grasp of it," Albert said, taking a seat opposite Isabelle. Looking at the girl before him, he asked, "What's your Patronus?"
"How do you know I've mastered the Patronus Charm?" Isabelle asked, brandishing her wand. With a flick of her wrist, she conjured two teacups out of thin air and poured milk tea from a thermos into the cups, handing one to Albert.
"Just a guess!"
Albert retrieved a box from his leather bag, filled with sweets bought from Honeydukes. He looked up at Isabelle's face, graced with a hint of a smile, and said, "With your abilities and talents, learning the Patronus Charm should be a breeze."
"Mine is a snow fox," Isabelle replied. "What about yours?"
"A griffin," Albert said with a hint of dismay.
"I think it suits you well. Why don't you seem satisfied?" Isabelle took a sip of her tea and inquired.
Albert briefly shared his concerns about Animagus transformation.
"That is a common belief," Isabelle acknowledged. "However, as long as someone is watching during the Animagus transformation, it usually prevents any issues." She couldn't help but admire Albert's capabilities; despite being only in his third year, he was already contemplating Animagus transformation.
"To be honest, I think the snow fox suits me quite well," Albert said, looking directly into Isabelle's eyes. "At the very least, I don't have to worry about that particular complication."
Isabelle simply smiled, appearing quite pleased.
"But Professor McGonagall promised to help me," Albert continued. "For now, I still don't have a clear idea about Animagus transformation. It's not urgent... I plan to achieve the transformation before graduation. Once I take the first step, I'm confident I'll succeed."
"I admire your confidence; it's truly captivating," Isabelle said, her chin resting on one hand while she used a fork to cut a piece of cake with the other. "But back to my question, what were you attempting just now?"
"I was trying to use the Patronus Charm in a more advanced way," Albert explained. "Trying to conceal the Patronus' form or... as far as I know, Headmaster Dumbledore created an advanced application of the Patronus Charm that can be used to transmit messages."
Intrigued, Isabelle asked, "How does it work? Tell me more about it!"
Albert shared the information he had obtained from Aberforth, along with his own training records, and the intelligence he had gathered, with Isabelle.
As Isabelle perused the notebook that detailed Albert's practice of advanced Patronus Charms, she began to understand the source of his reputation as a genius.
It wasn't just about innate talent; it also required relentless effort! She took five minutes to carefully read through the notes Albert had given her, eyes closed as she contemplated what she had read. "I don't think it's as difficult as you imagine," she said thoughtfully. "The reason for your failures is likely due to initial misguidance. Perhaps Dumbledore's brother didn't fully grasp the essence of the charm, and what he taught you was based on his own understanding. Their way of thinking is obviously very different, which led you astray from the beginning."
"Misguided from the start?"
Albert raised an eyebrow but remained patient as he listened to Isabelle continue.
"Yes, performing two spells at once is incredibly difficult," Isabelle agreed and shared her idea with Albert. "After you summon your Patronus, you can imbue it with the message you want to convey, and then send the Patronus to deliver the information."
"Summoning Charm!"
Albert immediately attempted it, focusing his mind to imprint the words "Hello" into the Patronus, he waved his wand lightly, and the Patronus landed on the table in front of the two of them, emitting Albert's version of a greeting.
He had truly succeeded! Albert was astonished. What exactly had Aberforth, that old man, taught him? Up until now, Albert still couldn't manage to keep the intended message in his mind while channeling his magic.
"Maybe I should write him a letter. If it really doesn't work, I'll ask Professor McGonagall," Albert tapped his finger lightly on his forehead, wondering how he could have forgotten about Professor McGonagall. She was also a member of the Order of the Phoenix and should be well-versed in advanced Patronus Charms.
Even if Professor McGonagall wasn't willing to teach him, there was still Professor Flitwick! Hmph!
If Aberforth dared to deceive him with false information, Albert would let it slide, as he hadn't considered it back then. But he wouldn't mind causing some trouble for the old man.
Taking his money for nothing would be a burning shame.
"It looks like you've succeeded," Isabelle was also surprised. She had only shared her thoughts, never expecting Albert to achieve it so quickly.
"You truly are a genius, my dear Isabelle. Do you know that I've been troubled by this for a long time?" Albert happily stepped forward and gave her a hug. Looking into her eyes, he leaned in and kissed her.
After a long few minutes... or perhaps half an hour... or even a few days, the two finally parted.
Albert's initially rapid heartbeat gradually calmed, and he smiled at Isabelle, "Sorry, I couldn't help myself."
In truth, Albert had wanted to do that for a long time. This wasn't the first time the two of them had been alone together, or what one might call a date.
This time, it just felt more natural.
"Does this mean we're officially dating now?" Isabelle's index finger lightly brushed her lips as she suddenly asked.
"I thought we started dating a long time ago."
"That's true."
The two looked at each other and smiled.
"By the way, thank you for the birthday gift. Here, this is for you," Albert took out a two-way mirror from his leather bag and handed it to Isabelle, "I originally planned to give it to you on your birthday. But, consider it an early birthday present!"
"You succeeded?"
Isabelle took the brand-new two-way mirror and asked curiously. She knew Albert had been researching two-way mirrors, but she didn't expect him to create one so quickly, which truly surprised her.
"No, this is a finished product that someone else gave me." Albert took out a box from his bag, "For now, I can only make this."
He opened the box and took out a silver metal card that was slightly larger than a wizard card and handed it to Isabelle. It had a lion-bodied eagle-headed beast embossed on it, along with the words: 'Do Not Disturb the Sleeping Dragon'.
"Just change the text on the back of the bookmark, and it will appear on my end," Albert explained the usage of the communication bookmark.
"It looks like your advanced transfiguration spell is coming along nicely. Is this the prototype of the communication blueprint you mentioned?" Isabelle used her wand to erase the words and wrote the same sentence on the back of the bookmark.
"Yeah!" Albert said helplessly, "Unfortunately, I've found that its practicality is not as high as I imagined. If we want this thing to become popular, we still have a long way to go."
Wizards could use Disillusionment Charms and communicate through fireplaces if necessary. However, Albert felt that in a few years, after the wizarding world fell into chaos, this kind of item would become quite trendy.
"This thing may not be as practical as the two-way mirror, but students in love will adore it," Isabelle said with a smile, "I guarantee it."
"I believe your judgment, and that's what I think as well," Albert smiled, "Of course, the feeling of secretly dating is even better."
