Chapter 384: The Green-Tea-Loving Mary Sue
Chapter 384: The Green-Tea-Loving Mary Sue
Back on the snowy plains of the Northern Border, Meow Boss had braved a nuclear fusion wolf explosion, but he had never been as scared as he was now, cowering under the sofa.
With his head buried, he dared not peek out.
He was truly afraid that Sigrid and Cybillian were about to fight to the death tonight, or perhaps force Lanchi to do the same.
If not for the Protoss Royal Magic Academy's prohibition barrier, their quarrel would likely have escalated beyond anyone's ability to intervene.
Their argument left little room for Lanchi to speak.
And even if he dared to interject, it was highly likely that both women would unanimously tell him to shut up.
Because, at this point, the core of their dispute was no longer just about their respective factions but about Lanchi's allegiance, and each was convinced that he belonged to her.
However, as their quarrel raged on without resolution, the only way to settle it was to have Lanchi answer himself.
But whichever answer he gave would lead to disaster!
Both women had genuinely poured their hearts out to Lanchi.
If Lanchi chose to side with Sigrid, he would hurt Cybillian, and vice versa; the wounds inflicted would be deep and irreparable.
To side with both of them would be no different from pouring oil on fire, and a fight would break out tonight.
On the other hand, if he chose to side with neither or remained indecisive, both women would be disappointed in him.
It was a deadly dilemma.
At this point, reasoning had long lost its meaning; whichever choice he made would lead to an explosion, the only question was the magnitude.
Meow Boss, hiding under the sofa, felt his heart racing faster and faster. The stifling silence filled him with dread, as if he could hear the pounding hearts of the individuals in the room. He couldn't help but pray for Lanchi to make a decision quickly, for with every passing moment, the likelihood of an explosive outcome grew.
The best outcome would be to establish a relationship with one and draw a clear line with the other, but it required exceptional judgment and resoluteness!
It was a heart-wrenching decision that a normal person couldn't possibly fathom in an instant, let alone make without hesitation.
Yet, Meow Boss still heard no response from Lanchi.
By now, an ordinary person would be drenched in cold sweat.
Meow Boss had no idea how Lanchi, usually so bold and ingenious, would handle this situation.
With a mix of fear and curiosity, Meow Boss poked his head out.
He found that Lanchi was indeed maintaining his silence.
However, he wore an utterly bewildered and innocent expression, looking back and forth between the two women with a heartbroken gaze.
It was as if he was asking, "What's going on?"
"?!”
Meow Boss's eyes twitched. He couldn't tell if Lanchi genuinely didn't understand why the two women were on the verge of a fight or if he was feigning innocence and playing the part of a pure and innocent youth.
This isn't a female lead script; it's a male lead script!
Meow Boss felt that he must have been blind to have once considered this guy the protagonist of a youthful romantic comedy and watched over his story.
"My saint, don't try to fool me with your pitiful act at a time like this. It won't work," Sigrid shook her head as if she had seen through him. "If I were to fight her, who would you protect? Just answer this question."
Sigrid's gaze locked onto Lanchi's as she asked.
She had always believed that her saint would stand by her side unwaveringly, and now she couldn't accept the idea of him opposing her because of another woman.
"..."
Cybillian pressed her lips together and turned to look at Lanchi. She knew he was putting on an act of innocence, but things had already come to a head, and she, too, wanted an answer.
Perhaps another girl would have been swayed by Lanchi's act and softened towards him, but she knew him too well.
When she and Sigrid had posed that question, the die had been cast, and there was no turning back.
Lanchi exchanged looks with the two girls, still unable to say whom he would protect.
The confusion in his eyes seemed to ask, "How can I convey this?"
In the quiet room, the tension was palpable, as if the slightest breeze could interrupt the silence.
Gloria sat at the edge of the sofa, her hands shaking as she fiddled with the sunflower seeds on the coffee table, pretending to be uninterested in the trio. The love triangle between the Bishop and the Saint was not something she could intervene in.
She realized that while the Saint possessed unique talents, he lacked skill in handling such a delicate situation. He had dedicated his heart to his pursuits, having too few women by his side, and so it was understandable that he was unsure how to respond to their confrontation.
When faced with two women questioning his loyalty, the worst thing he could do was appear indecisive and cowardly, as it would only lead to disappointment from both sides. Instead of hesitating, it would be better to take a stand and declare his choice, at least showing that he was a man of conviction and potentially gaining favor from one of them.
The most detestable thing was for him to be indecisive and not commit either way, leaving both women hanging.
And so, as Sigrid's gaze gradually filled with impatience and Cybillian's eyes began to well up with sadness, both women slowly averted their eyes from him.
"..."
Lanchi slowly shifted his gaze away.
Staring at the corner of the room, his eyes reflected confusion,
"I used to think that once I met someone important, someone I needed to protect no matter what, I could persevere through any challenges that lay ahead in the Empire... But why..."
Lanchi lowered his head, a hint of loneliness on his face, as if he felt misunderstood.
He resembled a naturally innocent young girl, unable to comprehend the nature of their dispute, appearing lost and in need of comfort from either of the two women.
Gloria shook her head at Lanchi's response.
At this point, acting pitiful would be futile and only serve to anger them further.
However...
Much to Gloria's surprise.
"..."
Both Sigrid and Cybillian fell silent, as if contemplating something.
Gloria furrowed her brows, her eyes fixed on the subtle changes in the atmosphere between the three of them.
She covered her head with her hands, feeling a sudden itch in her brain, unsure of what had just transpired.
At that moment, Sigrid and Cybillian.
Though their expressions differed, their thoughts were remarkably similar.
Setting aside Lanchi's consistent tea-like demeanor for now...
Between the two of them, which one was the important person in Lanchi's heart, and who was the one he wanted to protect?
Recalling Lanchi's hesitance and inability to protect either of them, they both felt a strange sense of relief.
Perhaps I am the more important one, and she is the one who needs protection.
As they calmed down and reflected on the argument, they realized they hadn't given Lanchi a chance to explain, and it was understandable that he felt hurt.
Both women looked at Lanchi, and as their initial anger subsided, they felt a twinge of guilt.
If they continued to scold him, and the other woman chose to comfort him, even with the upper hand, they might lose everything.
"...?!”
Meow Boss stared, dumbfounded, at the increasingly relaxed atmosphere.
You've got to be kidding me, Lanchi?
You're actually able to appease both of them?!
This extreme maneuver might just boost his confidence.
With this, even if Tata joined them, Lanchi probably wouldn't be the least bit intimidated!
