Chapter 384: The Dark Wizard
Chapter 384: The Dark Wizard
On the rooftop, a full-length dressing mirror was set up, and a figure emerged from within, their silhouette becoming more defined as they stepped out.
The figure, once ethereal, materialized through space and arrived on the rooftop.
A logistics staff member from the Night Watch Organization quickly retrieved a black cloth and covered the dressing mirror as if afraid something might escape from within.
"Director," said the golden-haired individual as he approached.
"It's someone from the Temple of the Gods," he added.
"Hmm," acknowledged Director Solz, the only person in the Night Watch Organization in Fast City with a Tier 3 ability.
Solz nodded slightly and narrowed his eyes, looking down at the battlefield below.
"Paladin Beren..." he murmured.
"I didn't expect a Gene-Modified Warrior to lure him out. Why hasn't the barrier been activated yet?"
As he spoke, a dense fog rose from below, acting as an invisible barrier, shielding against various attacks.
Without this fog, the sheer power of the combatants below would have caused havoc on the walls and buildings on either side.
But with the fog, their might would be contained within a small area.
The methods to restrain Supernatural Power were not common knowledge, but the Night Watch Organization seemed to have mastered them.
"Director," the golden-haired man spoke up again, "Barrow has strong potential, and there's a high chance he could reach Tier 2. This is probably why the Temple of the Gods is after him."
"Tier 2?" Solz's eyes flickered with surprise.
"How is that possible..."
Although Gene Modification technology had not yet been legalized, it was already being used secretly.
However, with the current technology, modified individuals could only be slightly stronger than ordinary people, and it was impossible to achieve a Tier, let alone Tier 2.
If they could mass-produce Tier 2 warriors...
The thought alone was terrifying!
"I'm not sure," the golden-haired man shook his head, "but our organization's experts say that Professor Jim might have come into contact with some Supernatural material."
"Also..."
"Bito Corporation hasn't been very cooperative, and some information hasn't been provided."
He felt helpless about this.
Bito Corporation had close ties with many officials, and the taxes they paid annually were a significant source of income for numerous departments.
Even the Night Watch Organization had to consider their relationship.
Moreover,
Bito Corporation had its private militia and access to Supernatural Power, unafraid of the Night Watch.
"Never mind," Solz shook his head, "let's capture him first, then deal with the rest."
He lightly stepped, and in an instant, he disappeared from his original spot, reappearing beside the Paladin.
Speed of the Eye!
Solz's unique ability allowed him to perceive the world as a network of lines, enabling him to travel to any place he could see through these lines.
Comparable to teleportation!
This was Speed of the Eye.
But his ability wasn't limited to speed.
"Boom!"
With a gentle push of his hand, the immensely strong Paladin was sent flying by an overwhelming force.
Hmm?
"Come out!"
Just as Solz was about to pursue his advantage, his expression suddenly changed, and a sharp rapier appeared in his hand.
"Sss..."
With a swift wave of the rapier, a flash of light too quick for the naked eye passed by.
"Swish!"
A burst of black mist erupted in the void, followed by dozens of red-eyed bats screeching as they charged towards Solz.
"Vampire?"
Solz's face darkened as he swung his sword, his extreme speed allowing him to slash hundreds of times in a single breath, covering every inch of space in front of him with sword light.
"Boom!"
The bats exploded, only to reappear at his side.
Solz's expression changed once more.
Vampires had a strict hierarchy.
The lowest-ranked mixed-bloods and the second-lowest generation vampires had Supernatural Abilities, but they weren't too strong.
However, the abilities of noble vampires escalated rapidly, with some royal families and elders possessing Tier 3 peak-level strength.
The vampire before Solz commanded a certain Tier 3 power.
"Buzz..."
As Solz fought the vampire, a strange painting silently emerged from the darkness.
The scroll gently unfurled, enveloping Barrow, Saint Knight, and the others within, causing them to disappear without a trace.
...
On the outskirts of the city, in an ancient manor, a scroll appeared out of thin air and slowly unraveled, gently shaking, and several figures were thrown out.
"Elder!"
"Thank you, Elder, for your help!"
"..."
Saint Knight Beren and Black Sid, along with the rat, had pale faces, and their expressions showed a sense of relief for having narrowly escaped a disaster.
If it weren't for the intervention of the 'Dark Wizard,' they would have surely faced an unavoidable calamity today.
"Is that Barrow?"
'Dark Wizard' Abbott, a high-ranking member of the 'Temple of the Gods' organization, waved at the group and looked down at the unconscious figure on the ground:
"Jim's claim is not false; he has actually succeeded."
"Not exactly."
The rat screamed:
"Elder, Professor Jim replicated the potion again, but no second Barrow appeared."
"That's right." Saint Knight Beren nodded:
"It seems the reason lies with that special Mutant."
The Mutant could transform into the shape of any organism, not just externally, but even its organs could change.
Jim referenced its abilities, merging the genes of various organisms to give humans the capabilities of other creatures.
The strength of ants, the regenerative abilities of geckos, the vision of eagles, the night vision of owls, and more...
It was thought to be a delusion.
But it turned out to be true!
"Take him downstairs and put him in the 'Black Chamber.' First, confirm that there are no marks left by others on his body."
'Dark Wizard' Abbott spoke softly:
"With him, Jim may be able to recreate the potion according to the requirements."
"Yes."
Black Sid nodded silently, picked up the unconscious Barrow, and headed towards the basement of the manor.
...
"Professor Carl."
The real estate agent stopped the small car and politely escorted Carl out, pointing to the manor behind him:
"This manor has a history of over six hundred years. Even if we don't mention anything else, the historical heritage alone is worth this price."
"Six hundred years?" Carl's expression became complex as he looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar manor, then he lightly laughed and shook his head:
"Lin, this manor is made of wood. After several hundred years, it must have been renovated countless times, inside and out."
"If it were truly an old mansion, it wouldn't be sold at such a low price."
Only stone structures can remain unchanged for hundreds or even thousands of years.
Or, in the suburbs or wilderness, temples that are specially maintained and inherited can be preserved in their wooden form.
Under normal circumstances, wooden houses cannot last this long.
"The reason for the low price is that the owner needs money urgently, which doesn't affect its value."
"Please, after you."
The real estate agent, Lin, smiled at these words and took out the keys from her body to open the door. Both of them entered the manor.
The quiet environment and neat arrangement showed that the manor owner had his own pursuit of life.
"Five million golden pounds; this price is not expensive."
Lin spoke up:
"I believe that if the news of the manor's sale spreads, there will definitely be many interested parties."
"Including those greedy investors!"
Carl slowly nodded.
"Who are you?"
As they spoke, an elderly man with white hair walked out of the house, frowning as he looked at the approaching duo:
"Outsiders are not welcome here."
"Are you Mr. Abbott?" Real estate agent Lin took a step forward, her face breaking into a smile: "Your youngest daughter has entrusted us to sell this house."
Huh? Dark Wizard Abbott's expression turned somber.
