Chapter 384: An Unprepared Team
Chapter 384: An Unprepared Team
Is the arrival of the Nightmare King inevitable?
Upon hearing the Red-haired Commissioner's assessment, Leon's eyes widened in shock.
That's right, the intelligence regarding the location of the Black Cult of Nightmares' base was sent by the Aquarius Director. The possibility of him tampering with it was not very high, but rather, it was 100% certain!
Leon recalled what Senior Emma had once told him: when the Abyss of Fallen Souls overlaps with reality, the connection between the physical body and soul would be weakened, and the abilities of dream realm creatures would be significantly enhanced. The Nightmare King would then take advantage of this to attempt an invasion of reality.
If the Nightmare King truly descended, ordinary people affected by him would not die directly, but they would be haunted by nightmares for the rest of their lives. As for cleaners like Leon, there was a high probability that they would be forcefully captured and brought into the dream realm, transformed into dream realm creatures under his control, and enslaved forever.
"Commissioner, quickly seek help from the headquarters!" Leon exclaimed, now understanding what would happen within three days.
"Senior Emma told me that the Nightmare King has no physical body and can move freely in the dream realm. He's not the type you're good at dealing with. So, can we ask for help from a director who specializes in dealing with him, or perhaps a commissioner from another bureau?" Leon asked anxiously.
"I've already sent out a request for help, but it's unlikely anyone will make it in time, given the circumstances," the Red-haired Commissioner replied, rubbing her temples. She pointed to the cabinet next to her desk, where the Celestial Sphere Mirror was faintly glowing. "The Nightmare King's Lyon Value is around 63 points, while the commissioners from the Non-Zodiac Bureau have a Lyon Value of only 50 to 59 points. They can only reach 60 points with the assistance of the Zodiac Palace."
"It doesn't seem like much of a difference, but as you know, 60 points is the line between mortals and gods," the Red-haired Commissioner continued. "Even if a commissioner from another bureau were to come, they wouldn't be of much help against the Nightmare King, who has been empowered by the Abyss of Fallen Souls."
"What about the commissioners from the other Zodiac Bureaus?" Leon asked.
"If they could come, they might be able to help. If we had two or more, we could even attempt to kill the Nightmare King. But they can't come..." The Red-haired Commissioner sighed.
"Headquarters is currently in a state of self-imposed isolation. Aside from the three directors, everyone else's ability to use the Zodiac Palace for transportation has been temporarily restricted. The only ones who could make it here within two days are the people from the Lion Bureau and the Scorpio Bureau."
"The commissioner from the Scorpio Bureau and I have a grudge, so it's unlikely he'd drop everything and rush over to help. As for Beverly from the Lion Bureau, we're on good terms, but after you exposed the Aquarius Bureau's scheme, she requested a reward from headquarters to spend a month eating desserts in the God's Country of Sweets. She's not in this world right now, so how could she possibly make it here in time?"
"Then..." Leon trailed off.
"I'm already asking the directors for help," the Red-haired Commissioner said, pointing to the top of the Celestial Sphere Mirror. Two fish-like emblems were circling around a sphere at the top. "The Pisces Director is extremely skilled in matters of the dream realm and souls. If he's willing to lend a hand, the two of us could directly venture into the Abyss of Fallen Souls and trap the Nightmare King within the dream realm. But I suspect he's currently..."
"Zzz..."
As if in response to the Red-haired Commissioner's words, the Pisces emblem hovering above the Celestial Sphere Mirror stabilized, and a little girl with a delighted expression appeared in the mirror.
"Olivia, are you coming to play with me?"
"He's probably not in a position to help right now," the Red-haired Commissioner finished, running her hands through her messy hair and looking at Leon with exasperation. "We'll play later. Are the Taurus Director and Sagittarius Director by your side?"
"Fine then..."
After being rejected by the Red-Haired Commissioner, the little girl pouted disappointedly, but still obediently nodded and ran away from the mirror, her squeaky shoes making a noise with each step.
"I'll go get them for you!"
"Thank you."
"..."
"That child you just saw is Mimi, she's like a quarter of the Pisces Director."
Once the little girl disappeared at the other end of the Celestial Sphere, the Red-Haired Commissioner turned and explained to the astonished Leon:
"The situation with the Pisces Director is rather unique. His soul was divided into four parts by an abnormality: a six or seven-year-old girl, a young man in his twenties, a middle-aged woman in her forties, and an elderly man in his eighties.
His body is controlled in turns by these four souls, from youth to old age. Although all four souls, being of the same origin, were recognized by the Pisces Star Palace, only the eighty-year-old man among them truly possesses the power of a Director."
"..."
So, the Pisces Director only has the strength of a Director a quarter of the time?
After the six-year-old Pisces Director left, Leon, who was struggling to maintain his composure, asked while looking at the pink wooden rocking horse in front of the mirror:
"With so many abnormalities in the Bureau, is there no way to bring out the eighty-year-old Pisces Director earlier?"
"It's not possible."
The Red-Haired Commissioner shook her head.
"About two or three decades ago, before the Aquarius Director's betrayal, he and the Taurus Director worked together to create an abnormality targeting souls, hoping to solve the problem of the Pisces Director's soul split.
But even with the combination of two secret arts, they ultimately failed. They only managed to fix the random appearance of the Pisces Director's souls, transforming it into a cycle from youth to old age.
The eighty-year-old Pisces Director you saw when you exposed the Aquarius conspiracy in the Headquarters has just completed his turn. It'll take another cycle, from old age to youth and back, before he appears again... I estimate it'll be another month."
Another month... By then, the flowers will have wilted eight times!
After gaining a deeper understanding of the unreliability of the Purification Bureau, Leon was about to ask another question when he heard hurried footsteps approaching from the Celestial Sphere. The six-year-old version of the Pisces Director had returned, running back with quick steps.
"Olivia! I brought the person back for you!"
"When she comes next time, I'll make sure she brings you some interesting toys."
Interrupting her, the Taurus Director, with a slightly haggard expression, gently patted the little girl's head and said softly:
"Olivia, I have something important to discuss with you."
Before the Red-Haired Commissioner could reveal the news of the Aquarius Director being alive, the Taurus Director, with a grave expression and anxious eyes, spoke first:
"The Watchtower Palace... might be in trouble."
