Chapter 383: The Paladin
Chapter 383: The Paladin
Tracy had always known that Barrow liked her, but when they first met, she was already in a relationship.
Her boyfriend at the time was the basketball star at school, tall and muscular, radiating a sunny disposition.
Compared to him, Barrow, who came from a small town, was frail and bookish, and couldn't hold a candle to her boyfriend.
Even after they broke up, Tracy never considered Barrow.
But now...
Whether it was his income or the thoughtful care he had shown her recently, Tracy found herself falling for him.
Perhaps,
It was time for them to clarify their feelings.
She went downstairs.
Leading Barrow to a secluded corner, Tracy took a deep breath, ready to define their relationship.
Having been in love a few times, she was no longer the shy girl she once was, and expressing her feelings came naturally, without any nervousness.
"Barrow."
"Hmm?"
Barrow's face tensed up.
He wasn't stupid; he could guess what she was about to say. His breath caught, and his body tensed unconsciously.
"Thank you for everything you've done lately," Tracy said in a low voice. "You know my family situation. Since my father passed away, you've been the only one by my side..."
"Wait a moment!"
"Huh?"
Tracy looked up in surprise.
"What's wrong?"
"There's... something coming." Barrow's eyes narrowed, his body covered in goosebumps. He pulled Tracy behind him and looked into the shadows in the corner: "Who's there?"
"Huh?"
In the darkness, a shadow moved like a viscous liquid, and a black man with bizarre patterns on his face emerged.
"You actually sensed my presence?"
The black man's eyes widened in confusion.
"I thought the target this time was just an ordinary person?"
"Who are you?"
Barrow shouted, turning his head towards the hotel security not far away. The next moment, his expression changed drastically.
Despite the close distance, and his deliberate loud shout, the security guards acted as if they hadn't heard a thing, not a single one turning to look their way.
Unbeknownst to them,
A thin layer of black mist enveloped the area, distorting and twisting everything within, obscuring the outside.
"It's useless."
The black man shook his head lightly.
"My ability can block sound, sight, and even scent. This is the origin of Absolute Night."
"Barrow?"
"Just come with me quietly!"
As he spoke, his footsteps pounded the ground, and he charged towards them.
The black man wasn't particularly muscular, but his speed was astonishing. Tracy was certain that no one she had ever met could match his agility.
Was this some kind of racial advantage? Before she could scream in surprise, Barrow's swift kick sent the black man flying backward.
"Bang!"
The black man was hit as if by a speeding truck, his body flying backward for over a dozen meters before crashing to the ground.
"Barrow!"
Tracy's eyes widened in shock. "How... how did you do that?"
The black man weighed at least 150 pounds, and Barrow had kicked him flying over a dozen meters. The strength required was unimaginable.
None of Tracy's past boyfriends could compare.
But the surprises didn't end there.
"Cough, cough!"
The black man coughed twice, slowly pushing himself up from the ground. He lightly brushed off the dust from his clothes, seemingly unharmed. "Not bad. It seems I'll have to ask for more money."
Mumbling softly, his figure abruptly disappeared into the darkness, as if merging with the shadows.
When he reappeared, he was already behind Barrow.
"Be careful!"
Tracy cried out.
"Swish!"
Barrow spun around, raising his hand to block the incoming attack, and in a swift motion, he bent his arm and struck with his elbow.
The black man dodged and reappeared beside Barrow, launching another attack.
Barrow sidestepped to avoid the blow.
Their figures moved swiftly, creating multiple afterimages in an instant, as the sound of clashing filled the air.
"Bang!"
The hard marble floor cracked under the impact, and fragments of stone sprayed in all directions.
Another series of clattering sounds followed.
"Ah!"
Tracy, who had never witnessed such a scene, couldn't help but scream in fear. Excitement and terror flooded her mind.
What a terrifying person! Barrow,
Was so strong? The black man was clearly skilled in martial arts, and with his ability to merge with the night, he could move swiftly, maintaining the upper hand.
However, taking down Barro wasn't going to be easy for him.
As time passed, Barro's outbursts grew faster and more powerful.
"Bang!"
They clashed once more.
The Black Sid took several steps back, stopping and looking at Barro in surprise:
"You... are still in the potential burst phase?"
"What do you mean?" Barro asked, puzzled:
"Who are you? Why are you attacking us?"
"Huh..." Black Sid was at a loss for words:
"How can this be?"
People in the potential burst phase usually just enter the supernatural realm, but to be this strong right from the start—what kind of potential would that be?
How could someone this powerful not have a mentor?
"Whoosh!"
Black Sid moved again, but this time his target wasn't Barro but Tracy, who had retreated to a corner.
"Stop!"
Barro shouted in alarm, rushing forward.
"Bang!"
A sharp sound echoed as their figures crossed.
A strange white light suddenly appeared on Tracy's shoulder, swirling through the air and striking Barro's forehead.
Barro's body stiffened, and he stopped moving.
"Hehe..." A phantom rat appeared on Tracy's shoulder, screeching:
"Thanks to me, Sid. I came just in time."
"You're right," Black Sid twisted his sore wrist and nodded helplessly:
"You're right."
"Let's go," the rat said:
"He's under my Soul Capture. He won't be able to break free for at least an hour. We need to leave now."
"Got it." Sid stepped forward, grabbing Barro's shoulder. Just as he was about to lift him, his face suddenly changed, and darkness enveloped his body.
"Zzzt!"
A dark light flashed, splashing some blood.
"Hmm!"
Sid let out a muffled groan, rolling on the ground to avoid the attack.
"It's a Demon Bullet!"
"Be careful!"
Several dark figures appeared nearby, holding firearms and firing into the darkness.
"Zzzt!"
"Zzzt, zzzt!"
Silencers couldn't completely eliminate the sound of gunfire. The Demon Bullets left white trails in the air, while Black Sid used the darkness to dodge.
"Barro!"
Sheriff Chris's voice rang out:
"Can you hear me?"
Barro, frozen in place, moved his eyes, his confused gaze gradually clearing as he heard the call.
"Damn!"
The rat on Tracy's shoulder, controlling both of them, screeched softly and then shrank, disappearing into Tracy's body.
Immediately after.
Tracy's eyes glowed green, and she let out a low growl, lifting Barro and dashing away.
Despite her frail build, she carried Barro with surprising speed and agility.
"Go after them!"
The Night Watchers shouted.
On a nearby lamppost, a red-eyed bat watched the scene, then spread its wings and vanished.
...
Soon.
In a dark alley.
"Bang!"
"Thud..."
Bullets and figures moved, and the sound of collisions echoed. Six Night Watchers surrounded their target.
"Monkey!"
Black Sid was blasted out of the shadows by an invisible force. Covered in wounds, he could no longer hold on, and he roared to the sky:
"Come out, or we'll die!"
"Hmph!"
A cold snort came from somewhere, and a golden light suddenly shot into the battlefield, sending several Night Watchers flying:
"If they wanted to kill you, they would have done it already. They left you alive to lure me out."
"Idiot!"
Despite his words, a golden-armored warrior appeared on the scene.
"Paladin!" Sheriff Chris's muscles bulged as he activated his blood manipulation ability to the limit, roaring as he charged at the opponent:
"The Gods are dead, and this is now our world!"
"Bang!"
The golden light intensified.
The Paladin, wielding a broadsword, clashed with Chris in mid-air, the force of the collision clearing the area around them.
"God, immortal!"
The Paladin's eyes lowered, his voice solemn:
"Defying the Will of the Gods will bring Divine Punishment!"
"Die!"
"Crack!"
Blinding golden light illuminated the entire alley.
