Chapter 382: When Dealing with a Child, Words Should Be More Tactful
Chapter 382: When Dealing with a Child, Words Should Be More Tactful
Professor Mcgonagall nodded and then asked some detailed questions, such as how they discovered and frightened away Sirius Black, and how he managed to sneak in.
Ivan simply said that he heard a noise in his sleep, opened his eyes, and saw a tall figure in the dormitory. Then Ron's pet rat started to squeak, waking everyone up, and Sirius Black panicked and fled.
"It seems you were quite lucky", Professor Mcgonagall said, still shaken.
A desperate fugitive could do anything when discovered. The destroyed street and the dozen or so Muggle deaths from years ago were proof of that!
Fortunately, Sirius Black valued his life and fled as soon as he was discovered, probably fearing being cornered in the common room by the professors.
While Mcgonagall was questioning them, the other professors, who had been informed, hurried over.
"Where is Sirius? Are any of the children hurt?" Professor Flitwick asked anxiously.
Lupin immediately looked at Harry in the crowd to ensure his safety.
Mcgonagall explained the entire situation to the other professors and then discussed with them the plan to move all the students to the Great Hall for protection and to send people to search the entire castle to see if they could catch the fleeing Sirius Black.
At the very least, they needed to ensure that Sirius Black was not hiding somewhere in the castle, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
At this moment, Hermione suddenly asked, puzzled, "Professor, how did Sirius get into the Gryffindor dormitory? He shouldn't know the password, right?"
"We should ask the Fat Lady!" Professor Mcgonagall raised an eyebrow, realizing this was an important clue.
Previously, she had been too worried about Harry and the others to notice this detail.
When they reached the portrait, they noticed the Fat Lady's unusual demeanor. Despite the serious situation, she seemed quite relaxed.
When Mcgonagall asked her why she let Sirius in, the Fat Lady looked bewildered and said, "Sirius? He came in? I don't know anything about that!"
"It looks like the castle's security needs to be improved", Snape said darkly, then raised his wand. A blinding light flashed, and the Confundus Charm on the Fat Lady was instantly lifted.
Recalling everything, the Fat Lady's face turned pale, her lips trembling, and she was overcome with shame, exclaiming:
"Good heavens! How could I have done such a thing? I actually let Sirius in, thinking he was a student!"
"You can't blame yourself; you were under a Confundus Charm", Professor Mcgonagall explained, then continued, "Could you tell us what happened? Don't leave out any details!"
"Of course, if it helps you catch him!" The Fat Lady wiped away her tears and recounted her encounter with Sirius.
When they learned that the Sirius who had escaped from Azkaban had a wand and could accurately say the password, the professors were extremely surprised.
"Are you sure you didn't make a mistake, Fat Lady? You really saw him take out a piece of paper and find the password on it?" Professor Mcgonagall pursed her lips, her expression grim.
"Yes! I'm sure!" The Fat Lady tried to remember and finally nodded vigorously.
"Looks like there's a traitor among us who helped Sirius Black get in! Coincidentally, our new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is one of Black's best friends."
Snape sneered, his hollow eyes staring intently at Lupin. His meaning was clear.
For a moment, everyone's gaze focused on Lupin, looking at him with a mix of shock and suspicion.
Fortunately, since Lupin's Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons had won the approval of most students, the young wizards present were half-believing and half-doubting, waiting for Lupin's explanation.
Under the dim night sky, Lupin gave a bitter smile and spoke with a sense of resignation.
"Severus, I understand you have some negative feelings towards me, but you should know that ever since Black betrayed James—"
Lupin paused abruptly, glancing at Harry and quickly corrected himself. "In any case, after that incident, Sirius and I have had a complete falling out. I want him back in Azkaban more than any of you do!"
Before Snape could respond, Harry interjected urgently.
"Professor Lupin! You mentioned my father's name just now, didn't you? And you talked about betrayal! What exactly happened? Did Sirius betray my father?"
"Shut up, Potter!" Snape shouted, cutting off Harry's question.
Then, he leaned down, glaring at Harry with a fierce expression, and warned him, word by word.
"If I were you, I wouldn't ask such stupid questions and cause more trouble for everyone! Don't forget that it's because of you that the entire school is gathered here in the middle of the night!
So the most important thing for you to do right now is to shut your mouth and stay under the watchful eyes of every professor, so you don't get caught by that mad dog running around the castle! He won't show you any mercy just because you're the great savior of the wizarding world!"
Snape's mocking tone almost drove Harry to the brink of fury. Despite the cold night, a burning flame of anger was growing inside him, threatening to explode at any moment!
Harry raised his wand, ready to give Snape a good hex to prove that he didn't need anyone's protection!
Fortunately, Lupin stopped Harry's reckless behavior in time, trying to calm him down with a pained expression. "Calm down, Harry! I'll explain everything to you when I have the chance."
The other professors gave Snape a disapproving look.
While they acknowledged that Snape was right and Harry should stay close to them to avoid being caught by Sirius, they thought he should have been more tactful when speaking to a child!
However, Snape had no intention of backing down. His eyes remained fixed on Lupin, and he sneered.
"Remus! I think you should keep your distance from Mr. Potter until you clear your name. Your explanation just now isn't convincing at all!"
"If you weren't helping him, Black would have never gotten a wand, a piece of paper with the current passwords, and managed to sneak into the heavily guarded castle!"
"So I suggest we lock Lupin up immediately until we catch Black!" Snape looked at Mcgonagall, Flitwick, and the others, speaking with a stern voice.
